[@Lady Selune] Ah, in that case, I can probably roll with some corporate greed if you don't mind. Obviously, as you said yourself, they wouldn't immediately start destroying Gaia. Maybe first try to create some more sustainable regions until they realize Gaia got plenty of natural resources (as it probably hadn't been mined by any indigenousness population).
