@shylarah I will note, that in that particular story I did not get the impression that the character was invulnerable because of his gear, but more that the author would never allow him to fail his quest and by that he was invulnerable, all the gear was just in-story in-the-story reasons to explain the invulnerability. Which, of course, completely failed at the end. So, it completed that goal through the way of being a character like that rather than by gear.

That's how I interpreted it, anyway. Terminal might have interpreted it differently. I don't know. Oh, well.

@PlatinumSkink Yeah, I actually talked to the writer, and knowing that, it's far more clever. <3 Not sure why I missed it, but it might be because I always assume authors are goint to be at least somewhat realistic -- or figure out a way to do it wihtout breaking suspension of disbelief. So if a character is not technically invulnerable, there's going to be a reason they avoid injury that makes at least some sense. ^.^

Still can't figure out why the story strikes me as missing something, though. =/ *headdesk* Might just be my taste in tales.

Just letting everyone know that the next RPGC will begin upon conclusion of the Final Hazard. No rush on you all, of course, just trying to keep everyone informed.

The Final Hazard is not a formal contest per-se. You can start as soon as is convenient. I was planning on running TTL alongside the Final Hazard when applicable.

Actually, I might have two ideas regarding what you may feel was/is missing.

Closure.

@The Grey Dust I've had open-ended stories before, and that's not automatically an issue. Additionally, that would be deliberate, and when recognized is actually quite clever. On the one hand, here...maybe a little. But on the other, no...it was through the whole story. A lack of closure is only as you reach the end.

I am sorry to have to announce that The Twelve Labours is, from here on out, canceled. This includes both the upcoming Second Labour of Series Two, as well as any continuation of The Final Hazard.

Due to issues beyond the scope of this subforum, I am no longer a Contest Moderator and can no longer efficiently manage or administer the contest. There are no plans to replace or continue the contest, barring whatever any of you might devise. This development was neither anticipated nor welcome, and I apologize for having disappointed the expectations of those who were expecting a continuation of The Twelve Labours.

The status of the various awards and trophies still pending from previous Labours is currently unknown. I will see if I can still have them awarded, but I am no longer in a position to make promises on that front.

May you all live on in song and story.

Oh, well.

@Terminal Thank you for an awesome time facing your labours these past, heh, years. It's been a lot of fun, writing for your things. It's been a distinguished part of my life and I am very happy to have partaken. Good luck with all that you'll do in the future from here on out. Godspeed.

Though I never actually did find the time to push my way back into the fray of the Twelve Labors, I'd also like to say thank you for the amount of time and effort you dedicated to this ongoing contest. It's been an absolute blast to read peoples' entries, and take the time to listen to your scalding reviews from which I've learned more about writing than I have from certain college professors. I hope whatever it is that has forced you to part ways with the contest clears up with time and that one day you may return to shatter our writing dreams... I mean, encourage us to be better! Lol. You will be missed, man.

@Terminal

How disappointing.
I almost want to host a similar series of writing competitions to continue your legacy.
And although My grammar skills and writing skills are rather poor, and vastly will be inferior to yours.
I do enjoy reading the responses to your prompts.

Perhaps not quite the 12 labors... As that homage shall be yours alone...

But What of the 7 Sins?

And that, as they say, as that.

The Iteration cannot deteriorate any further - omission at this point would be instant death. So The Final Hazard, and by extension, The Twelve Labours are now over.

May You All Live On In Song and Story.
