[@MrDidact] I was thinking something along the lines of a glory hound type of antagonist. A battle hardened man who seeks to earn favor in the eyes of the dark old gods. Blood sacrifice, slave raids, power consolidation. A true free folk who wants to create a true and lasting fiefdom. Think of something along the lines of vikings ragnar lothebrook. Or other famous raiding badguys.
