A city like any other. With people like any other. This is Yuzoraku City, located on the coast of Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Alive and bustling, the residents who live here do not have any special quirks--they are people, and nothing more. Or, well, that's how it would seem to be. Centuries prior, back before the rise of industry or of technology, those beings known as 'youkai' lived among the people. Their home, a world parallel to our own, was connected to this one. Travel was common, and familiarity was commonplace--though most relationships were business-related, if at all, the two worlds acted as if they were two sides of the same coin: separate, but unseparable. This coexistence broke, however, upon the rise of technology. While many humans embraced that which gave them strength, the youkai were divided in their opinion. Should they remain among these humans, whose unpredictability knew no bounds? Or cut themselves off from their counterpart, forever remaining within their own world? Unable to come to a unanimous conclusion, the youkai split and fractured--those who wished for the former hid themselves within society, masking their true nature and integrating themselves into that which would become familiar, while the rest remained within their world and lived on there, sealed away under barrier after barrier. This incident was, ironically enough, what spared 'this' world from the calamity that befell the youkai soon after. A mysterious illness soon swept through 'that' world, corrupting its inhabitants, regardless of if they were human, youkai, or otherwise. Luckily, with the only way to break the seal being on 'this' side, that illness never crossed over to affect the residents 'here', who remained none the wiser. The seal within Yuzoraku City, however, is fraying, and most of the residents are none the wiser. With this past having been long since lost to the world and those from the 'other' side slowly finding their way into this world, it is only a matter of time before all hell breaks loose. Unless it can be stopped, that is. [hr] So... This is an RP inspired by a variety things, but takes particular influence from the Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha games, Bloodborne, Persona 3/4, and Monster Hunter. In essence, the players will be taking up 'missions' to accomplish within this "other world", which itself mimics the city that they live in. All of the player characters within the scope of the RP should be relatively low power at the start, but should gain more strength as the story progresses. More information will be revealed as more problems are handled, but otherwise characters shouldn't know much about the situation at all. Since things are mission based, though I'm gonna be tossing around control of sections at I see fit and will be taking suggestions for future incidents.
