For the last three hundred years, there has been a hidden war raging across the world. From London to Lagos, Boston to Brasilia, there has been a bitter struggle for the soul of humanity. Between those who seek to dominate through force and those who wish to guide humanity towards a glorious destiny. Fuelling this conflict are the Artefacts- ancient, unknown objects that grant humans incredible, unbelievable powers, at the risk of destroying themselves.



Now in the year 2017 the war has moved to the US city of Carver Bay. As augmented humans battle it out in the shadows and corrupt police, government, and criminals wage their own wars, the very future of humanity hangs in the balance.





Factions



The Illuminati

The Illuminati are the secretive society that controls the vast majority of the world behind the scenes. Run by the Council of Twelve, the Illuminati gained control of the world using the Artefacts from the late 18th century onwards. Their agents are everywhere, and have infiltrated every organ of government.



The Illuminati are not evil, however; their slow, measured, and thoughtful control has actually proven to benefit humanity time and time again. Like chess masters, they anticipate and adapt to help humanity to reach it's full potential. Their main opponents are actually a rogue faction, named Cerberus, that broke away sometime in the mid 19th century, and have sought to wrest control from them ever since. Despite their best efforts however Cerberus has grown in power in the last half century, and now poses a real threat.



Cerberus

A powerful group of individuals whose goal is to dominate the world through force, using a super elite of augmented administrators and soldiers. This group used to be an arm of the Illuminati until they broke away, seeking to overthrow the larger group. The ensuing struggle has produced most of the great conflict around the world for the past three centuries.



The Watchmen

An organization that seeks to fight Cerberus and prevent their mastery of the world, as the Illuminati have proved unsuccessful. Led by a cabal of former Illuminatus, the Watchmen also use Artefacts to empower their agents. The Watchmen are neutral towards the Illuminati as they realise that the society is not inherently evil.





Carver Bay Police Department (CBPD)



The CCPD are the main law enforcement agency in the city. Corrupt to the core and extremely brutal, they take no prisoners. Cerberus has infiltrated the rank and file of the police in this city so badly it is essentially theirs.



Department of Homeland Security (DHS)

A Federal law enforcement agency dealing with-surprise surprise-homeland security. The Illuminati control the Carver Bay office through their operative, Special Agent Brendan Kingsley.
