Cassandra stepped out into the twilight, her eyes dark without the sun to bring out their blue. She found her father already preparing to work his plot for the day and her frowned deepened as he caught her eye. She knew he didn't want her hunting at the moment--there were whispers about Norn regarding the dangerous omens in the forest. Hunters more cowardly than she--or more the wiser--had at least slowed in their hunting; however, Cassandra enjoyed being out in the forest on these limited summer days and took much pride in her ability to feed herself and others. She would not waste the day. So as her father opened his mouth to speak, she bounded away toward the forest and left him to watch her with a furrowed brow. The few arrows in her quiver rattled together as she walked through Norn, her steps light and quick even with the leather boots on her feet. A leather pouch of water hung at her waist next to a hunting knife. She held the hunting bow and its string in her left hand; it was imperfect but she had made it herself and she knew how to align the awkward shot. A frown still sat upon her face, but it occasionally twitched into a polite smile as she passed the rare villager and exchanged a greeting. As she passed the village center, a raven's cry broke the quiet and she paused in her steps to squint where the rooftops met the sky. Cassandra hummed and picked up her pace again, brow furrowing. She was dressed just warm enough to tolerate the cool morning air until the sun would warm the Earth: trousers and a simple tunic over a loose sleeved shirt. Her dark hair was tied back into a tight ponytail to keep it out of her pale face. She wore a glove on her right hand to protect her skin against the bowstring--though her hands were hard anyway, raised a hard worker like both her parents. She tensed against the cold air as she arrived at the edge of town, slowly coming to a stop as she gazed at the forest ahead. For all her talk against superstition, she could see and feel the change in the forest. So there she stood for a few moments, preparing herself for the hunt.
