Not necessarily. My RP operates on a banlist and 4000k LP, and I've had duels last upwards of twenty.

...Granted I made people start out with structure decks, but as long as you keep some regulation the duels should last a while. In fact, you can have pretty long duels even in the modern game if both players aren't playing the current meta. (Duelist Alliance was both famed an notorious for being a slugfest in turn count)

Just my two cents on the matter. I'm keeping up with this interest check because I'm curious to see this RP develop.

Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of the concept of Structure Decks, which is one of the reasons why, while I'm still waiting eagerly for your RP to re-open sign-ups, I'm also kinda debating why I should even bother. That's just me, though.

And don't worry, I will try my damnedest to make sure this RP at least makes it off the ground.

There's 1 more user who I'm friends with and who wanted to join in a YGO RP, but couldn't because of how many posts KO's RP has already and because yours...well, y'know.

Hopefully he posts in this thread and voices interest. If not, I'll just post in here with a mention of him.

Players can opt to use Random Thing Picker or a random number generator to decide the cards they draw and whatnot and/or they can use PiratePad. It depends on what people would be most comfortable with.


So we'd have to rely on everyone to not be a complete egotist and just pick whatever they please, right?

I'm interested, but this has me on the fence. Just because I've seen it happen before; People just picking what they want. I'd much prefer it if we had someone in the middle ground, probably you as the GM, dictating the numbers so we know the draws are actually random and not someone lying to our faces.

I'd be more than willing to be the GM for duels, but, given that there could very easily be a lot of them, it could be a little tricky to keep up with them, hence why I would like a co-GM for this, to act as essentially a second me.

I'll do my best though. I'll make sure every card in a person's deck gets a number, and that they don't get the same hand every time.

The problem being, of course, that brick hands are still a big issue, which is why KO's RP is something I myself am a fan of, since he foregoes that bit entirely, but makes sure nobody plays anything like Exodia Turbo, Final Countdown stall, etc.

Depends on the general consensus, really. I'll still look over everyone's deck to make sure they're not being super cheeky, but I'd like to hear how people think draws should be handled. i.e. You pick your hand or the Random Number Gods pick it. Pretty sure most would say the latter, but I'm just making sure.

Coolness. Consider me recruited, then! I'll happily help out with a few duels if needed, since you seemingly have a Co-GM already, possibly; I could be like... A Co-Co-GM! Except maybe not in charge? If you need the help, I have no problem lending a hand.

If you roleplay playing decks like stall, you would have to be perhaps either the biggest douche or loneliest loser. I don't see the fun in it at all. Glad to hear such things won't happen; Honestly I was considering Ancient Gears myself, as they are my favorite general archetype to play. Though perhaps some other types of machines as well, as changing it up now and then never hurt anybody.

As you have predicted, I'm on the side of RNGesus taking care of the hands. Though if it came down to it and people really didn't want that, I'd say have someone in the middle ground, again, help pick somewhat neutral hands for both players. That could work, too.

Looking forward to this! Been too long since I've gotten involved in a Yugioh RP.

Ancient Gears, huh? That'll be fun, especially if you can summon Chaos Giant rather consistently.

Yeah. I'm not planning to run three as that'd be cheeky as shit (Powerbond one, Overload Fusion another, fuck you, you're ded) But I will get him summoned when possible, heh.

Also have to start thinking of my Guardian Monster. Ought to be fun to do that.

I'd be alright with it, though with what's currently usable, there wouldn't be much variety among the players unless we actually made some Link Monsters. I think it's a good idea because it'd actually make the duels a bit slower; It'd certainly help holding back my deck if I can't just put multiple fusions on the field at once without a decent Link Monster. Same goes for other types of Extra Deck summoning... Putting a bit of a limit on it is a plus in my book.

I think, just so one player doesn't just spam every boss they have onto the boards, that Links should probably be implemented.

It's the new summoning system and soon to be rulings for the official game that will change the huge advantage of going first. Link Summoning, which you should really read up on the wiki This page and the ones related to it, is basically a way to slow down the usage of Extra Deck monsters as to not give people stupidly good boards; This way whoever goes first doesn't end up with a bunch of xyz/fusion/synchros with effects turn 1 that prevent the other player from playing the game, and by extension, enjoying the roleplay.

It also prevents Pendelum monster spam from the Extra Deck as well without a Link Monster being in play; But if you have the pend monsters in your hand, you can still special summon as many as you want without fret. Though the pendelum zones have been moved to the Spell and Trap zones, meaning if scales are in play, you only have three backrow zones; Which nerfs pends a bit, though beyond popular belief they are still some of the stronger monsters we'll see this format due to their still very prominent flooding potential.

I sound like a broken record, but bringing in the new rules is really good for the RP; As duels will last longer than four or five posts this way, without us purposefully having to make weak-ass decks. Though, I'm curious as to what we'll do to try and extend duels beyond just a few posts if Link Summoning loses the vote, a question I have to ask @GarlandDaHero out of concern. As GM, s/he seems to have a good head on their shoulders; So I'm not extremely worried, but I'm actually looking forward to the changed game Konami has presented, and would like to test it out in a roleplay as practice for when I eventually have to bring a link summoning deck to locals~!
