I wont be here this weekend, going to a con.

I'm also looking for an artist who can do a cartoony-anime style kind of picture with cel shading. Kinda like what Pokemon does now. If any of you know anyone who can do that, I'll gladly pay comission.

What kind of con? I am a little con-curious.

Also, again, apologies for running behind schedule today - had an extremely busy day, but tomorrow should be quieter.

@Archmage MCI too am a fan of cons. I once cosplayed as Obito. A bunch of people took pictures with me. 'Twas fun. Hope to go again sometime.

@Hylozoist@TwelveOf8

Its some smaller anime/video game con as I'm not able to go to that many this year.

But then I'm mostly going to try to find friends/GF so not too worried about that.

"Cosplaying at a convention" is now on my List Of Stuff I'd Like To Do (mostly due to the insistence of friends that I should join in with them when they do it), but most of the characters I like would be rather impossible challenging to do a cosplay for.
Friend: "So, if we were to make you a costume, what'd it be?"
Me: "...a Tachikoma, from Stand Alone Complex."
Friend: "Something that's not a robot."
Me: "Appa from Avatar The Last Airbender?"
Friend: "Something that's not a five tonne air bison."
Me: "Well, I'm fresh out of ideas then."

I usually go to GenCon here in Indianapolis. I go as an Imperial Guardsman from Warhammer 40k, specifically from the Armageddon Steel Legion.

@Hylozoist If anything happens. People in public tend not to want to make friends for some reason. At least if your a guy. If your a girl, just pretty yourself up a little bit and watch the 'friends' flow xD.

I'm expecting just taking pictures of neat cosplays and being bored the last day tbh. Thats usualy what happens at these things.

Do you get folks mistaking you for doing somebody from the Death Korps of Krieg?

Yes! And I can regale younger folks with stories about how great FF9 is. I'd probably end up being either suitably cheered up by how many people go "oh, yeah, FF9!", or horribly depressed by how many people go "who's that from?".

I'd find two days to be quite a struggle (well, one day would be too), but you never know what'll happen unless you try! I think that's kind of why I'd like to dress up to go to one, beyond indulging my love of dressing up in stupid costumes, it means that even if I'd end up sheepishly sitting in a corner waiting for the sweet release of a tube ride home, I'd have got to spend a day or two dressing up.

Or, rather more accurately, spending a day or two dressing up in a social situation where it's acceptable to do so.

@Hylozoist Oh I'm fine with 2 days. Its the 3 day ones that are a drag if you never find any friends.

Come with friends though and your all set. All I know, be assertive and active and people tend to come to you.

My problem is since I'm house ridden I don't got many stories to tell people and can only do science facts.

I did go to a little video game convention-ish thing last year (Rezzed) with some friends, and it was nice to have that sort of back-up of "you know there are some folks who you can hide behind in an emergency" to make the "making new friends" thing easier. I didn't really make many new friends though, but I'd spent a week making a Quaggan hat from Guild Wars 2 beforehand, and folks came and said some nice things to me about it, and so it was sort of sociable and I'm waffling now sorry.

BUT BEFORE I STOP WAFFLING, oh god, I still think about this and smile so hard my face hurts. So I'm queuing up to get some food, because it's getting late in the afternoon, and one of my friends is queueing up with me because, well, hiding behind people in case of emergency and all that. We're talking about a game we wanted to go and try (I think it was in the Devolver Digital booth/area, because nearly every indie game I've ever got excited about over the last few years have been published by them) and I feel somebody pull on my jacket. I turn around, and there's this little girl, she's maybe seven years old at most, and she's wearing a Quaggan hat she'd made too.

And she was just so excited to see somebody else wearing one, and she explained how her mum helped her make it, and how she really liked Quaggans too, and it was just the sweetest thing I'd seen. She asks what I used for the eyes on my hat, and told me how she picked the colours that matched the hat her character wore, and it was just so wonderful to see this little kid with all this enthusiasm.

@Hylozoist Thats awesome. My stories aren't nearly as heartwarming and are actually Fing creepy.

Overview, I've got pure white hair.

So I tend to attract jailbait and I know they are jailbait. Its really... whats the word. Not embaressing but embaressing with a mix of being creeped out? But yeah, having anime protag white hair attracts the wrong kind of crowd age wise and its super annoying. >.<.

Then you see the tomboys and they're super salty for some reason, probably being hit on by people who smell of BO or something earlier in the con. I tend to hate that too, why some guys tend to not bathe at all. And the nerdy girls tend to hide or not want to talk or are their with their BF... And then you got the assertive ladies who tend to be lesbian.

Only costume story I can think of was at the last one I was at. I have an Organizaion XIII coat I use for my winter wear because my mom didn't know it was a video game coat. So with that and my white hair I can be any of those characters. Sora cosplayer comes up and asks to do an action shoot, so I'm just sipping my mug of soda while doing that 'hold off weak character that wants to fight you by holding their head with your hand while their arms flail in vein to hit you' sorta thing and his group of friends loved it.

Also your lucky your a girl. you get to have thick hair. lol. Mine si getting thinner and thinner.

There's this guy cosplaying as Kefka Palazzo. Everyone seems really into it. You'd probably have a lot of fans yourself if you went as Quina.

I have to salute his commitment, that was crazy, and I'd probably have turned into a nervous self-conscious wreck within the first minute of trying something like that. Having said that, if I were to do a Quina cosplay, I'd probably aim to find some way to hide my face, and then I'd end up feeling considerably less self-conscious. I think it's more likely I'd just end up filling out whatever my friend's group do, and rely on safety in numbers.

But white hair is pretty neat! Thick hair is fine until it comes to doing anything with it. I have a bear hat which basically serves as a means of hiding the fact that I have hair. As a tactic, it's fine for the winter when nobody really bats an eyelid at anyone wearing a warm, fuzzy hat. In the summer though, it's a much harder look to pull off.

All the time. The key differences is the helmet and the coat. For DKoK you want a wool greatcoat, and a German Stahlhelm or other helmet with a back-neck cover. For the Steel Legion, you want a slimmer cloth trenchcoat, with either an M1 helmet, or if you wanna splurge, a German WW2 paratrooper(fallschirmjaeger) helmet.

EDIT: images for reference

@Hylozoist Yeah, my hair is getting thinner, so I'm growing it out to about .3m-.4m before I cut it so I have a lot of hair to make into a wig when I go bald.

Why doesn't the US use the metric system? I'm glad most things are in metric over here, but still, I want the main measurement to be metric. Its so easy...

I was going to go "it is easy, I use it and it's a great", but I still think of distance in terms of miles, so I'm clearly not 100% behind metric.

Okay, the post that was due yesterday is up, and I think that brings everyone up to roughly the same page in terms of GM posts.

I'm going to be crazy busy tomorrow (visiting and delivering cake-goodness to a friend who insists living out in the wilderness that is Walthamstow), but it's looking likely that I'll have some time to myself to sit down and reply to posts properly on Saturday afternoon. If I can squeeze a post in at that time, I'll do so.
