[@Dead Cruiser]Well I was trying to show that he's actually really intelligent he's just also a murderous little sneak. I suppose the murderous streak doesn't exactly show great leadership capability, though. I do wish I could do more with the role, but in the end, he is just a good old fashion pirate.

As to the plant thing I'd probably fix it with adding oceans with proists (algae) as the replacement for plants as that's where arctic food chains normally start. I had just glanced over it and forgot to fix it.

As for errors like I said this is the first draft. I do all of the corrections after I know it's worth checking everything. Had you said new backstory all those corrections would be pointless.
