"Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the 20th World Martial Arts Tournament!

The World Martial Arts Tournament, the greatest spectacle in martial arts and combat, showcasing the physical feats of the world's greatest and best-trained martial fighters. For the past 100 years, the tournament has been held at this very monastery, and has crowned some of history's most noble warriors as champion. People travel from all across the Earth to bear witness to this entertaining adventure, and the winner returns home with a mass of adoring fans, and a grand prize of 500,000 Zeni. According to tradition, the rules have remained the same over these many years, and are as follows:
1. Any contestant who comes into contact with the ground outside the ring, is considered defeated and loses the match
2. Any contestant who is knocked down, and unable to stand after a 10-count, is considered defeated and loses the match.
3. Any contestant who concedes defeat, or declares that they give up, is considered defeated and loses the match.
4. If both contestants are knocked down, and neither can stand after a 10-count, the match is considered a draw. However, if this happens in the final match, the battle enters sudden death mode, and the first person to stand upright on both feet and repeat the sentence "I am the Champion!" is considered the winner of the tournament.
5. Any weapons that are not a physical body part to the participant are prohibited.
6. Any protective gear that is not physically part of the participant's body is prohibited. Protective groin cups are the only exception.
7. Eye gouges, hair pulling, biting, and groin shots are absolutely prohibited. In the event of a dispute over whether or not such an attack occurred, an official judge will make the final decision.
8. Under all circumstances, fatally wounding or killing an opponent is absolutely prohibited. In the event of a proclaimed accidental killing, an official judge will make the final decision.

The tournament has two official parts, the preliminary combat, and the final tournament bracket. In the preliminaries, the various participants fight in 1-minute-long matches, with a final winner being declared by an official judge after the time limit is reached. After all but 8 participants have been eliminated, their names are shuffled into the official tournament bracket, and the public matches begin.

So there you have it, the rules and description for the 20th World Martial Arts Tournament. I chose this specific tournament number to prevent any conflict with tournaments actually appearing in Dragon Ball or Z, and also because I prefer the tournament rules from the Original Dragon Ball over those found in the Z era. So now for the OOC Rules:

Rules:
1. My word is law subservient only to the rules of the Guild
2. Character "power levels" and combat capabilities should be somewhere around the level of normal Dragon Ball, with very little ki-blasts, and almost no actual flying. Characters should focus primarily on their martial skills
3. No alien races, IE saiyans or Namekians, this is OG Dragon Ball, so Goku and Piccolo/Kami are the only aliens as of yet. However, the different anthropomorphic animal races found in the Dragon World are welcome, along with any others said to be native to Earth.
4. Tournament matches will be posted based on the choice of those involved. If you want to do it as a collab, go ahead. However, if the two fighters choose to do it as a series of posts, no standards for post length are expected, just good grammar and spelling.
5. Have fun, and fight well!

May I join, DepressedSoviet? My only concern is how are winners and losers decided?

@GuntherYou're welcome to join. And as far as deciding the winners and losers, that's going to take some collaborative agreement on the parts of both people involved in a fight, as well as myself as the GM and controller of the Referee. My thought is either we just agree on who wins a match, or since I'm planning on making a random tournament bracket with the characters, we can do a "coin flip" or other random outcome decider to choose the winner of a match, and then either through a collab post or a series of posts, roleplay the fight to that outcome.

@DepressedSoviet

Threw something together, went a bit different from what I originally planned. But I think that's a good thing, since the inspiration just came outta nowhere!

^This method works best in my opinion. This way the authors writing the fight know ahead of time and can work together on how the fight is carried out. I'll work on a character later today. Should have it ready by tomorrow.

Right, let's see how this goes... Admittedly it's a bit short but I figured a guy like this doesn't really need an in-depth and detailed backstory, really.

@Raddum I wouldn't say that. Zane is perfectly neutral towards her. :P

@Ryteb Pymeroce

Uh...

Well, he's human, that makes sense. No reason to be hostile outside of a fight...

But Bright_Ops, who I quoted above and was speaking to, has a wolfman. Mine character is a catwoman.

Dog.

Cat.

Hatred.

Yeah.

I need to rethink mine. He is a bit overpowered compared to the others. Can't have that. Hopefully, I will post him later today.

@Raddum@Rin@Bright_OpsYour characters are accepted. Ryteb would have also been accepted, but they seem to have decided to leave the guild, sadly. So once Gunther gets his character in, and either we get 1-3 more people or I make my character and the necessary number of NPCs, I'll make the tournament bracket and the intro post.

Alright, DS, you need players for this, clearly. I would very much like to participate in a Dragonball RP, having not done so since relatively shortly after first joining the Guild, and I have an idea for a Triclops human, like Tien Shinhan without his third eye being obscured by an evil upbringing.

I will say, though, that the idea of deciding the outcome of each fight through essentially random chance doesn't really appeal to me; I'd much rather the system be derived from how well each participant in a fight can write, instead of handing it off to whoever wins a coin flip. Maybe do something similar to what The Crucible is doing right now, and have each side of a battle write out their version of that section of the fight, then get other players to vote for which one is canon at any given point? Alternatively, have both players write down the actions their character takes independently of whatever the other player writes, and parse the outcome of each round of writing accordingly? These are just my thoughts on the topic, though.
