Before the brainstorming, do you have any basics set besides that paralel? Races? Magic? Knighthood? Stuff like that. I would like to know the general direction you are taking, too. Is it a dark and gritty realism or something more lighthearted?

Races - humanoids (humans, elves, dwarves, perhaps gnomes and orcs too)
Magic - exists, but extremely rare. Superstition still lives, and magic can be used by the common folk to explain why something happens.
Knigthood - yes. Heavy mounted soldiers? Yes. Title given for bravery and courage? Yes.
Grim or light? Grim.
Realistic? Probably yes.
