One idea I had is that in older times there were other gods, but they were all devoured and consumed by the dragons who then took on their powers but also, took on their personalities which would later become a schism between dragons and perhaps ultimately, their demise.

Combining the frankenstien and bloodborne thing, I think this one boss from Bloodborne would be a perfect visualization of that hybrid: the One Reborn.
