[/quote] I wouldn't say I never saw him as the fatherly type, just having his own child never entered into the calculus behind the character as I originally envisioned it. It might be a father-child relationship fraught with some baked in issues; I can't imagine something more important to a Watcher in that organization than actually getting assigned to a Slayer near a Hellmouth. A scenario where Watcher-father tells child, "For now, during this time, my duties to the Slayer are more important than my family" isn't exactly hard to imagine. So some serious potential for conflict and drama, should we want to go that route. Lots of options to survey and explore. And sure! Send away.
