[@VitaVitaAR] Agreed. I'm hardly going to be obstinate about it if that situation comes up, even if I prefer the competitive approach. Though frankly the problem goes away if people are just willing to allow flexibility and accommodate each other. An RP isn't a contest, we should all care more about making the fights fun and making a fun story than 'winning' one way or another. The GM could always arbitrate in cases where people can't decide?

But still, if that comes up I'll just defer to the person who wants predetermined.
