Let's say this thing doesn't need any sort of armor because it's naturally tough hide allows it a good enough balance between protection and maneuverability. Also those tentacles allow it to sense the presence of creatures that it can't see. Maybe that spike on the tail can pierce through armor or a biological equivalent, etc etc. 

Is that alright?
