Not really my thing, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be when it first started. I pretty much went from "Oh god, here we go" to "Ehh, could have been worse." 6/10. I'm probably just biased because I'm not even remotely into hip hop.

@Exit3/10 Make me feel bad now. The instrumental track overpowered the vocals (which I honestly wasn't a huge fan of either.) And it was just jumbled (or produced or mixed) in such a way that it wasn't pleasant to me. >.< (I even just tried to listen to another track of her's 'blossom dearie' it was a little better, but I don't think it's in my taste.

(Not super familiar with this band, but hey, if you like synth rock or don't...give this a shot.)

@SleepingSilence 3/10. It's not my kind of music, a bit too synth heavy for me, the singer does have a good voice though.

@Heat - that took me by surprise. A really gentle one minute and forty second long intro, and then things start to kick in. I'm not a huge fan of the vocals, but that sort of "slower" metal instrumental that feels like waves crashing and breaking against your eardrums is great. It manages to be both atmospheric and musical, and I like that.

I'd give this a 7/10, but I know metal-heads with a penchant for that sort of singing would (rightly) rate it much higher, and I'd encourage them to give this a listen.

@Hylozoist I'm already familiar with Opeth which is why I waited. :P

7/10 because I enjoyed it, don't listen to a lot of 80's. The vocalist wasn't exactly a vocal powerhouse. ;P

(Longer track, recommended you go do something. But this artist makes some pretty nice background metal. :3)

@pugbutterTruly one of the most unique songs I have ever heard. Almost impossible to describe. It didn't blow me away but I found it pleasant to listen to. I would say it could make good ambient music but for the life of me I would have no idea what kind of ambience such a song would instil. 7.5/10

@pugbutter I dunno, I think prog rock/metal can lead to interesting/unique paths, especially since they tend to blend in with other genres of music, like your song for instance. (And next song I posted is also considered Progressive Rock, sounds quite different from your song. :3)

@TwelveOf8 8/10 It's hard to describe exactly why I rate it like this, but the song just worked and was enjoyable.

@SleepingSilence First, don't feel bad at all lol. I already know the songs that I like. I'm here for what everyone else is playing. It's called the music appreciation thread after all. How am I ever going to expand my library if I don't listen to other things?

Second. 7/10 Fun. Catchy. Nice little change in the middle there that kept me engaged and didn't lose me as so many other songs do when they try the same. I did a little digging up and discovered another song on the album titled Evicted which was pretty good. They both kind of pull me back to yesterday which is fitting seeing as how the album was released in 2007 when I was big on this kind of music. Also wish I had time to listen to the whole album as it seems it was recorded so that each song leads into the next? Everything ends abruptly! Great song. Great lyrics. Great album. Too much nostalgia feels to stay on my playlist.

I've always had a soft spot for Medicine since I really do love shoegaze and they were the American cultural answer to My Bloody Valentine in a way. Time Baby III is, of course, a pretty famous track for being in The Crow (good movie too fyi) and I'd be willing to say it deserves the popularity. Unfortunately Medicine never really went anywhere big despite their decent sound. 7/10.

@Exit I'll be honest I haven't jumped into the dear hunter's albums myself, but his albums have been on my listen to list for a while because several of them seem to tie into different themes and seem like they'd make interesting listens, so I might finally give them a go.

@TheMadAsshatter...I don't think the thread showed your post until recently...I just realized you were skipped so I will rate your song too. 8/10 Protest the Hero really did their kickstarter's proud.

@Chairman Stein 6/10 Was alright, I think it was actually a little too short for me to really get into. Might be just me, but the singer came of as slightly haunting. (that or he was about to fall asleep.)

(I just love blended genres of music. (even if flawed.) Hope you like metal and rap. ;D)

@Lucian Haha. Hey, I did warn ya ahead of time. ;3 Always a good counter to most people that say "they listen to everything." Play them a heavy metal song or a non-mainstream rap and watch their faces turn to disgust in a heartbeat. xP (It saddens me how so many people here don't like metal, and if they do, don't like rap. So I didn't exactly expect a high rating to begin with. :P)

4/10 I enjoyed the instrumental, though it was structured like a pop/edm single, but it was much longer than a pop song should be...the lyrics are super repetitive, even more then most other pop songs. Which doesn't help the dragged out feeling.

@pugbutterIntriguing enough start to the point where I think I slid a little closer to my PC in anticipation. Then of course I got hit in the face with music that was heavier than I expected. Like a metal bat to the face. The most horrific part of this experience is the fact that this genre of music sits outside my typical spectrum and because of that most of it sounds the same and I can't give it the rating it deserves.

So, this is how my rating unfolds. We start at 5. Some music in this genre is amazing. It resonates with me in a way that's hard to explain and that's where this songs starts with the soft thirty second introduction up to about a minute and a half. At this point it becomes much of the same of what I've come to expect and doesn't change much from there. There were a few solo's sprinkled in here and there but they lacked inspiration. 4. The lyrics themselves? A+. It's your typical "stand together no matter what" scenario and it fits well with this type of music. 5. The deliver of the lyrics is where I felt it faltered. Again this isn't my genre so maybe I don't have the trained ear but I think I've heard better examples before. 4. Of course I have to give back one point because the singer isn't that bad at all and there are times when he manages to pull me back in with his voice alone. So we come to a final score of 5/10.

Sorry. Didn't move much and I promise it's not because the song isn't good. It's just my ears hired this bouncer a long time ago when I was young and I was listening to whatever. He's been trained a little too well. Should probably fire him but then my ears would bleed.

This is me going into this song with shit preconceptions, because my ex listened to Melanie Martinez all the fucking time, and it got old very, very quickly. Plus I already despise pop.

That being said, I don't think I've heard this one before, and I actually kind of enjoyed the lyrics. My biggest complaint is that, again, it's set to a very pop-ish backdrop. Not my thing, but for what it is, I wasn't actively hating it the entire way through. 5/10

@TheMadAsshatterVery emotionally heavy instrumental for the first two minutes. By the time I started hearing lyrics, I'd expected it to be nothing but a melodic ride to the end. Then you hear lines that are a lot deeper than I anticipated and you have the making for a very poetic track. Sounds a lot like a fuzzy poem that wraps around you like a blanket... and I'm talking about the soft blankets, not the scratchy kinds.

Only negative I have is that, removing the lyrics, the track itself is a little repetitive and given that it is 7 minutes long, it starts to sound like background noise but the pleasant kind... like soft ambiance. Overall 7.9/10.

Their discography is very straightforward: the earlier it is, the grungier the sound. The later it is, the cleaner the sound.

Both frontmen are great lyricists, so don't be swayed by hardcore fans' Walkyier purism.

Personal favorite album of theirs is Vintage Whine. Good luck.
