Go to your profile.
Click edit.
Scroll down to avatar.
Click browse.
Upload your file.
Click save avatar.

Keep in mind the thing will be resized to fit the avatar specifications, as mandated by the website.
It's best to pick an already small to medium-ish image for your avatar.
