I'm sorry my analogy has made you sad, poor confused dog. My co-worker was just telling me about her dog who thinks any dog that growls at him is a new best friend, sounds like your dog needs to hang out with a dog like that. 

My dog's part beagle so the first 30mins at the dog park he's sniffing everything and oblivious to the other dogs there unless they run right in to him. He was also terrified of my neighbors new lawn gnome for first few days after they got it so I'm guessing he's also part chicken lol.
