Real Name:Ken Yamato Superhero Alias: Rising Son Age:16 Gender: Male Species: Human Powers: Ken was part of an experiment by his businessman/scientist father to understand the scientific underpinnings of 'Ki energy'. To that end, he raised his own son to be a perfect example of Ki cultivation, teaching him martial arts, having him sleep in a special chamber which regulated his breathing patterns and shut out his senses while further programming his sleeping mind with more martial arts training, and regularly dosing him with an experimental compound he dubbed 'The Satori Serum'. As a result he can use 'ki' to temporarily enhance his senses and physical abilities to low-superhuman levels, sense various energies while intensely concentrating, and heal himself and others. His signature technique is the Tranquil Fist, an ability that can only be used when he's able to access a state of meditative tranquility that allows him to focus all of his energy into his fist and punch with immense power. Rising Son no longer needs regular doses of the Satori Serum to maintain his powers. However things like intense fatigue, emotional stresses and inability to maintain the right breathing rythmns weaken his ki powers. Abilities: Martial Arts- As part of his father's experiment, Rising Son was trained by the best martial artists his father's significant resources could afford for hours on end every day of his life, while at night the pod he slept in subliminally taught him further martial arts in his sleep. As a result he's an extremely skilled martial artist for his or any age and his skills in the martial arts are his primary tool for crime fighting, with his powers supplementing his abilities. He's mostly skilled in eastern martial arts, Jujitsu, Karate, Shaolin and Wudang Kung Fu being his initial studies. He also has some knowledge of other martial arts including ninjutsu, Kali and Muay Thai. Acrobatics and Free-running-As part of his intensive fitness training, Rising Son was trained to be extremely acrobatic and even incorporates his acrobatics somewhat in combat to evade and outmaneuver his enemies, as well as using a combination of acrobatic moves, Monkey Kung Fu and Free-Running to travel in a hurry. Stealth-While not the absolute stealthiest around, when it's called for Rising Son's ninjutsu training has taught him how to be rather stealthy and decent at infiltrating places he's not supposed to be. Multi-lingual-Rising Son speaks fluent English, Japanese and Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese. Business Sense-Theoretically at least, Rising Son understands business strategy and economics well enough to have the foundations needed to one day run his father's business. However he's rather fond of thinking of it all in terms of The Art of War. Equipment: A special bo staff created by his father once Rising Son began fighting crime, it can split into two shorter batons or be divided into three and connected by a length of chain for use as a Three Section Staff/occasional grapple. Personality: Rising Son is a study in contradictions, raised to be able to access a state of perfect calm and studying Taoist, Shinto and Buddhist philosophies when he wasn't training, but also thrilled to be on his own in the outside world. He's rather naive in a lot of ways as apart from being allowed out to attend a few business meetings in a ceremonial role, making appearances as a sort of corporate mascot for the Yamato Corporation and fighting crime, he has no real life experience. Ancient philosophies and laboratory life aren't really conducive to a social life, and while he's had many different teachers, Rising Son hasn't really had many friends or dealt with normal teenage life. As such he's thrilled to be in Rush City on his own and at the possibility of making friends. Whether he knows what to do afterward though is an entirely different question. Brief Backstory: Ken Yamato is the second son of genius inventor and scientist Doctor Touma Yamato, who had long ago used his profitable inventions to become incredibly rich and branch out into every industry he could get his hands on in order to get more resources for his experiments while also living in luxury, though helping the people of Japan was a nice bonus to both his conscience and Public Relations. One of these experiments involved studying the supposedly mythical nature of ki energy in a scientific manner, and the good Doctor Yamato used his youngest son Ken as the primary subject of the study. He started by having his son begin sleeping in a special pod that helped regulate his breathing, deprived him of his senses at night and later subliminally taught him martial arts in his sleep. As soon as Ken was old enough, he also started hiring numerous tutors to teach him martial arts and meditation techniques during the day. He tailored Ken's daily exercise routine and diet to encourage him to the peak of human physical fitness and allegedly cultivate his ki. As the boy grew, Doctor Yamato further encouraged him to study spiritual fields relevant to the nature of Ki and the meditating mind while increasing the intensity of his training both waking and sleeping. Finally, the regimen began showing some results and Ken manifested some small ability to manipulate his own ki. However, this wasn't enough for his father. Doctor Yamato was eager to test a new theory on Ki, and began dosing Ken with a special blend of chemicals and ancient alchemical ingredients he called his 'Satori Serum', which resulted in an instant and massive multiplication of Ken's ki and abilities. Thrilled with his success, Doctor Yamato continued to regularly dose Ken with slightly tweaked versions of the Satori Serum until a permanent, noticeable change was achieved, congratulating himself on a successful experiment. Shortly after Ken received his last dose of Satori Serum at the age of twelve, the infamous Phantom Thief Kabuki broke into the YamatoCorp headquarters seeking to steal the formula for an unknown employer. Ken was able to successfully fight off Kabuki and retrieve the formula in a nighttime battle across Tokyo that became heavily publicized. Doctor Yamato sensed a unique public relations and merchandising opportunity as well as a chance to test the limits of his experimental subject. Therefore, Ken was re-branded in the public eye as The Rising Son, a superhero purposefully created by YamatoCorp to save Japan from evildoers that might threaten it. Rising Son served as a combination Super Hero/Corporate Mascot until just this year, when he ran away to Rush City to live his own life on his own terms. Arc Ideas: The Phantom Thief Kabuki arrives in Rush City, trying to steal several valuable artifacts with characteristic flair! After getting our heroes attention, he challenges Rising Son to settle their rivalry once and for all, but is there something more complicated and deadly afoot?! Ken's older brother Tensai has arrived in Rush City with a high-tech power suit and an army of scientifically armed corporate henchman along for the ride. He says that Rising Son's name, likeness and powers are the trademarked property of YamatoCorp and that Rising Son is coming back to Japan with him, but Rai doesn't want to go! Kids around Rush City are suddenly displaying strange superhuman powers, and Rai senses ki energy similar to his own at each of the incidents. Worse yet, whatever's giving the kids these powers leaves them burned out and puts dangerous amounts of stress on their bodies and minds after just a few hours. Rai thinks that the Satori Serum may be to blame, but how is it getting on the streets, and more importantly why?! Other: (Miscellaneous things)
