| NAME |
Jackson "Jak-jak" Anderson

| DEPARTMENT |
Pets & Animals

| AGE |
27

| TRAITS | -
  • Seasoned huntsman - Jackson is a hunter through and through. From the very moment he could properly defend himself he's been sent out alongside others of his ilk to either fight back the beasts that roamed the land or bring back anything his people could use. Be it by scavenging or raiding Jackson is more than capable of getting hold of almost anything needed to survive the walmart.
  • Attitude - While he's capable of reigning in his animalistic impulses Jackson isn't exactly what one would call a people person. He's crass, can be ill tempered, and is known to occasionally hold petty grudges. While he's not exactly wont to go around making threats and assualting people for every perceived slight things can still escalate pretty quickly if he gets rubbed the wrong way. Further adding to his problem would be the fact that Jackson is extremely Darwinist in his views and is quite vocal about it at times. Suffice it to say, negotions are better left to someone else.
  • Bad blood - Between his less than stellar social skills and some prexisting rivalries between departments, Jackson isn't exactly going to be welcomed with open arms into every community, especially those that've been on the receiving end of a raid by him and his kin, whether said raid was successful or not.
  • Inhalant abuser - Jackson has developed a rather unhealthy addiction to huffing fumes. Gasoline, lighter fluid, burning shoe polish, whatever. If Jackson can inhale it for a high; he's going to inhale it for a high. This can negatively affect his mind and performance, and lately his nose has begun bleeding, a sign of things to come if he doesn't stop.
  • Melee fighter - While the preferred melee weapon for those that inhabit the Pets&Animals department might be swords Jackson has opted to master using the spear instead as they are much easier to craft or come by. With a sturdy spear Jackson can impale his foes up close, keep them at bay, or nail them from afar with a good toss. This also extends to javelins.
  • Animal senses - Jackson's senses are extremely acute, with his sense of smell being his strongest. This is as much a curse as it is a blessing due to he fact that his sharpened senses can easily be turned against him if he isn't mindful. As of late his sense of smell has actually been on a slow decline due to his huffing habit.

| EQUIPMENT | -
  • Pocket knife - A tool given to his by his father. His most prized possession
  • Fishing vest - good for holding multiple items thanks to its many pockets.
  • Thresher - His mutant leopard gecko companion and best friend. Small, but has a remarkably strong bite (enough to bruise and draw some blood, not much else). Can act as a warning system for bigger, meaner beasts. Good for pest control.
  • Slapdash spear A very sturdy walking stick that's been sharpened on one end. Has coils of rope wrapped around three different sections to allow for a strong grip.
  • Canteen - Holds liquid and not much else. Makes for a passable blunt weapon when full of necessary.

| BIOGRAPHY |
There's really nothing all that interesting about Jackson's life. He was born in the store to a pair of bog standard hunters (a supplier and defender, respectively) and picked up the same line of work as parents. After a few years of training with the master hunter Jackson struck out into the only world he knew with little more than the clothes on his back and the small companion animal he'd been granted when he'd earned the right to pick one. More years went by and as Jackson's skills grew he began to alternate between working with groups and going it alone until finally branching off from his tribe and doing his own thing as a bargain hunter once he realized they did the exact same thing and got paid for it.

| NAME |
Crowley "Crow" Brightwing

| DEPARTMENT |
Originally Born among the Topdwellers.

| AGE |
21

| TRAITS |
  • Awoken (Arrogant/Clear-Headed/Resourceful)
The Topdwellers always consider themselves to be the most enlightened group of the Wal. After all, their lives are full of real dangers, and real emotions. The petty squabbles of the Cereai, the Nevergrown and the Dorfs, it's all meaningless compared to the desperate thrills of fighting against the dire birds which travel the rafters. This leads topdwellers like Crowley to hold no illusions about the dangers of the Wal, and leaves them of sounder mind and gives them excellent improvisational skills, better equipped to survive these perils. Unfortunately, it also makes relating to the Grounded more difficult.
  • Determined
Stubborn to a fault, Crowley will let nothing stand in the way of his recovery. There are medicines in the Wal which can regrow limbs, good as new. There are stories and legends of all varieties. Combined with his arrogrance, Crowley can come off as abrasive and crass, but can eventually be cajoled into doing the right thing. Sometimes.
  • Crippled
After Crowley's tragic fall, his left hand was broken, and healed badly. Though he is capable of moving it slowly, and lightly grasping objects, he is unable to wield a weapon effectively, nor can he climb the grapples of his people back to his home. This also leaves him far more open to other injuries, as he is unable to wield a weapon and shield at the same time, nor can he fire two-handed Sporting Goods.
  • Agile
Despite his fall, Crowley is a Topdweller. Their speed and dexterity are stuff of legend: even some Grounders know of the great Merle Wingplucker, who single-handedly defeated a flock of dire pigeons by dancing around an enraged Sekyuritee bot, and brougth death to the supposedly-mythical dire duck (by outrunning it through a series of stockerbots which shot the duck, instead of him). Before his fall, he was one of the best climbers in his tribe. Of course, his light weight and slender form will fetch him a quick death at the hands of anyone who catches him.
Crowley's sense of balance is also incredibly refined, from past days swinging between the rafters. His damaged arm is still capable of balancing him as he moves, so his balancing ability is still roughly the same as it used to be.
  • Strengthened
After healing from his fall, Crowley was forced to adapt or die. Forced to use only one arm to avoid the agonizing pain, he developed a much greater amount of strength in his right arm to compensate for his left, and now climbs through a combination of leaping, aerial inversions, and sheer force of will. His grip strength is incredible, as is necessary for a climber. Luckily for him, most things in the Wal can be climbed with only three limbs, including the Topdweller Training Ground (enormous swingsets conjoined together over the years to be a massive jungle gym, hidden deep within The Wal).
Despite this, unless he can fix his other arm, he will never be able to climb as quickly or as safely as the other topdwellers. Every climb is a risk.

| EQUIPMENT | - Weapons, armor, trinkets, pets, etc. Don't go overboard and what you take should make sense with your character.
  • Knife
Part of the Sporting Goods section is a place known as The Tinkling Wall, where rows upon rows of sharp knives, held in place by fiendish plastic cases and security racks. One of the Topdweller ritual raids involves a trip to the Tinkling Wall, to try and find loose security racks, and steal the knives within. Crowley was a part of one such raid before the fall, and acquired for himself an eight-inch steel knife.
  • Tactical Birdfeed
Crowley's trump card. While the Topdwellers fear and fight the dire birds with every waking moment, some of the more intelligent among the rafters came up with the brilliant idea of mixing birdfeed with a few herbs particularly fragrant to birds. With the recipe considered a secret among the Topdwellers on pain of death, the TB can be used to summon giant pigeons, robins, or sparrows to a particular location. Unfortunately for Crowley, he has only a small amount of the stuff left, and does not know the recipe to make more. Normal birdfeed just doesn't have the same kick to it.
  • Clothes
As with most Topdwellers, Crowley travels light. There is plenty of food around The Wal if one knows where to look, and all Topdwellers learn how to scavenge from an early age. All he really needs at all times is the clothes on his back, and the tools mentioned above.

| BIOGRAPHY |
There comes a time in every Topdweller's life when they must find their place among their peers. This can be as one of the stealthy raiding parties, who swoop to the floor of the Wal and prowl the various departments, looking for supplies they can hoist to the world above. Some serve the tribe as Raptors, serving as the first line of defense against the dire birds which stalk the rafters. Still others work as Rockscis, exceptionally clever people who manage supplies, come up with new combat methods, or work to improve the quality of life of the tribe.

Whatever their position, all Topdweller youths find their place in the First Flight, a ceremony which involves several trials of the different facets of Topdweller life. Any topdweller can participate in the First Flight more than once, provided five Stocking cycles have passed.

Crow never even got through his first ceremony. Although doing well on the raiding and creativity portions of the First Flight, during the combat portion, things went disastrously wrong. While attempting a dangerous swing between rafters to strike at the backside of a dire canary, an unexpected wing flap sent Crowley tumbling on hs grapple. He became entangled in the rope, and his grapple dislodged. He fell some distance before, by some miraculous stroke of luck, the grapple found purchase again. The wrenching in his left arm was agonizing, and he swung into a Shelf.

The village of the unstocked Shelf, named Providence by the inhabitants, were kindly enough to attempt to set his damaged arm, to no avail. Still, thanks to their care and kindness, Crow was able to recuperate enough to begin attempting climbs again. He stayed in Providence (which was really quite the misnomer, all things considered) until he was one day able to climb down from the Shelf to the floor beneath. He took nothing with him but his TB, knife, and clothes.

He never thanked the Shelffolk for their kindness, either.

| NAME |
Leroy Omerson

| DEPARTMENT |
Pharmaceuticals, currently loner

| AGE |
38

| TRAITS | -
  • Absent Minded - because his mind is completely filled with thoughts of his quest, he frequently forgets to eat, sleep and drink unless reminded or becoming almost too weak to continue. he has lost most of the ability to feel hunger or thirst, until it gets to the point of almost passing out.
  • Single minded - after the nightmares and dreams entered his life, he quickly lost all other goals and values except for making the potion. He finds anything that doesn't continue his quest to be a waste of time and energy.
  • detached - when he left his department, Leroy lost his family, his friends and everyone he had known in his whole life. He stopped seeing people as people, instead his broken mind Only seeing the creatures around him as tools only useful for continuing the quest. If any opportunity arises to continue his quest he will take it, no matter what must be sacrificed.
  • Medically Trained - despite it being a decade since he left the confines of the infirmary, Leroy has still managed to keep the knowledge of medicine and herbs in his shattered mind. He can use common chemicals and materials to craft basic bandages and medicines. Also because of his need to craft his potion, he has become proficient at brewing liquid and drafts.

| EQUIPMENT | -
  • Poisoned Hunting Knife and Shivs - a gift from his parents, he keeps the long hunting blade constantly wet with a homemade venom. He also has a couple of rough shivs that he uses if he needs range.
  • "Holy Journal" - small leather bound journal where he keeps all of his notes about herbs, medicine and potion. Also has his recipe for making the bombs.
  • Potion of Infite Power - this potion is the culmination of years of work. Leroy believes that upon finishing this potion, he will become the most powerful person in the entire store. He will become a god. As of now, the potion is just a finely polished glass bottle, filled with a dark green liquid of unknown origin. The bottle is corked and is strung around his neck. It is very far from completion.
  • heavy leather coat - a durable, heavy leather coat that covers most of his upper body. It is good protection against melee attacks but won't come close to stopping a bullet or a sharp blade.
  • Crow Mask - as one of the last efforts to ward off the nightmares, Leroy fashioned a wooden/ metal crow mask, which he keeps constantly stuffed with herbs and spices in the beak. Unfortunately like all his other attempts, this to failed.

| BIOGRAPHY |
The pharmaceuticals department is a strange place, filled with aspiring scientists and insane dreamers, working side by side. This odd combination works fairly well, except for the unfortunate times when the insanity outweighs the genius. Of course, no one expected Leroy to be on the insane side of the spectrum. He was born to 2 of the smartest chemists in the Department, and from his early years he aspired to outdo them both. Throughout his schooling he earned top marks, even going as far as to earn the highest honor a child can receive, the gift of his very own "Li'l Tykes Chemistry Kit!".

Leroy was quickly identified as a genius, and was able to skip the later years of his schooling and rent a private laboratory to continue his work in peace. He majored in weaponized chemistry, and most of his time was spent concocting new types of bombs and poisons for the defense of his home. Things were looking bright for Leroy, until the voice.

Leroy isn't sure of exactly when the voice started talking to him, nor is he sure when the nightmares started appearing in the day as well as the night. He dreamt of a glorious potion, pure gold and shining in his hands. He drank the potion and was filled with a power unmatched by anything he had ever felt before. He would be a king, may a god. The voice told him all of this, showed him his destiny. It didn't trouble Leroy when the voice started talking to him in the daytime, and neither did it trouble him that he had forgotten to eat for the past 2 days. All that mattered was the potion, and he spent days locked in his laboratory trying to perfect the first part. Finally just the right amount of chemicals were used and with a blinding flash a green liquid slowly filled the bottle. He thought the voice would leave him alone, the visions would fade, he could go back to living a normal life. That night was when he finally broke. The voice taunted him all night, dredging up the worst memories from the worst parts of his life. By the end of the night, he was convinced. His only salvation was to create the potion.

Leroy brought no food or water with him, instead choosing to stuff his backpack with every chemical and medicine he could find. In the dark of night he fled out of a service hatch in the infirmary, bringing with him only his bag of chemicals, trusty hunting knife and fragmented mind. The next decade of his life was spent scavenging, trading what chemicals and medicine he produce for the necessities to continue his quest. His mental condition only worsened, and without the love of his parents and friends Leroys view of people became increasingly degraded, only seeing them as a means to an end. His potion far from completed, Leroy has decided to become a Bargain Hunter in hopes of finding more ingredients for his potion.
