Before the Clone Wars Taris (a non-racist somewhat rebuilt form of the one in KOTOR) left the Republic. The people believed that the taxation and regulations placed on it by the Republic far exceeded the benefits of belonging to the Republic. When the Clone Wars began, however, they refused to join the CIS, believing it would be the same with them and wanting to remain neutral. The CIS didn't like their refusal to join, and decided to try and "persuade" the leadership the join. When bribes, threats, and assassination attempts failed, they launched an invasion. They didn't count on the fact that the old ruins would provide ample cover for the locals, and faced far more resistance than they'd expected. When a rich kid named Damien Barrik was caught using his trust fund to fund one of these resistance cells, they came for him. With the help of his cell he was able to get away and hide in an off-the-books warehouse where he stored his most prized possessions. With his accounts frozen, however, he was forced to start selling things off. This new base couldn't be tracked to him, though, which gave them a safe location from which to strike back at the Separatists.
Name: Damien Barrik Species: Human Skills: Fencing: He studied fencing for self defense. Repair: He works on his swoop bike and droids for fun. Trade/finance: His family owns a shipping company. He had to study it so that he could work for them one day. Piloting: Well, he's pretty good at driving swoops, at least. Force skills: Yes, he's got them. Sure, it's currently limited to sliding a credstick a few centimeters across a table, but that counts. Right? Personality: self righteous and brutally honest. He thinks he's obviously the best one to lead his resistance group. It's his base and he was funding them, so that should be obvious to everyone. Bio: Born to a rich family that owned a shipping company, he had all the money he wanted to fund his hobbies. He used it to buy a base in the lower city where he could store his stuff. He decided to keep it hidden by purchasing it under a pseudonym, as problems could arise which would threaten his collection, conditions such as bankruptcy and lawsuits. Luckily, only his attorney knew about this pseudonym, and he was killed by a battle droid who entered his office building during the invasion. He hired a mercenary to start a resistance group, and funded the group for almost a month before he was caught and forced to run. They got him to his secret base, and, as they were also compromised, he let them use his base. Equipment: 3 swoop bikes (only one is completely functional), 4 droids (2 security, 1 protocol that needs a better power cell, and an astromech. One of the security droids is stuck in a memory wipe cycle, so it remains deactivated, lest it attack everyone as "unauthorized" on sight.), various tools and parts, several "jedi artifacts" (a mostly functional lightsaber, old robes, various documents, an old painting showing someone fighting with a corded lightsaber.), a vibrosword, a Q2 holdout blaster, clothes, some money, and a decent collection of wines and liquors, though mostly Tarisian Ale.
