Biography: Xavier Arkwright showed much promise as a successor-in-the-making and was heralded as a child prodigy, particularly displaying a natural talent in the Arkwright family’s specialty - the displacement magecraft known as Flash Air - that became apparent even during the earliest stages of his training as a fledgling magus. Of course, simply being a promising magus is meaningless if you don’t keep your bloodline going by producing equally capable offspring to one day carry on your legacy. Unfortunately, young Xavier was a bit of an introverted bookworm growing up, showing little interest in searching for a suitable mate, so to speak. As such, when Xavier had reached a decent age for marriage, his family hand-picked a bride for their son who had proven to possess high-quality Magic Circuits, therefore ensuring in their eyes that their union would produce strong magi worthy of the Arkwright family name. Despite it being an arranged marriage, in a funny twist of the old cliche, Xavier and his fiancee ended up genuinely developing feelings for each other after some time.
Unfortunately, tragedy struck the Arkwright heir when his would-be wife fell into a deep coma, due to a medical condition too grave for her to be healed simply by the use of magecraft. With his newfound love now on life support, Xavier felt helpless and desperate for the first time in his life. After fruitlessly researching everything he could about his fiancee’s illness, he concluded that the only two ways to save her were either to somehow discover a new path to The Root, or to seek out the few individuals in this World capable of performing “true” magic. Neither of those options was viable at this point, as Xavier’s fiancee was running out of time.
It was at that point, however, that an opportunity presented itself, a third option… The Holy Grail War. While participating in such a crude sport full of backstabbing and foul play felt pretty quaint, Xavier knew that the omnipotent wish-granting capability of the Holy Grail was without a doubt the quickest and most surefire way to save his loved one. And so, the young Arkwright magus took off for Fuyuki City, Japan, determined to earn a wish from the Holy Grail that would change his fiancee’s otherwise inevitable fate...

Family History: The Arkwright family is a well-known, illustrious family of mages hailing from England. They have a long and extensive history, dating back nearly a thousand years. The family’s specialty is the displacement magecraft known as Flash Air - which does ring bells of a certain [url=http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Ainsworth#Ainsworth]family from another World[/url] that exercised the same type of magecraft, but they have very little in common with them past that. Displacing a portion of space can place hostile projectiles behind the enemy, allow for their own projectiles to change trajectory by shifting space, allow for them to have their limbs appear anywhere, and make their enemy's own attacks hit them from behind. By changing door and window relations, one can even rearrange entire building layouts with this technique. However, because such an application would require much higher concentration, cast time and Mana expenditure, it’d be all but useless in a combat situation.
[*] Wind Magecraft: Basic wind manipulation and wind-based magics. Xavier can create miniature tornadoes or spherical gusts of wind, which he can then send at many different directions at once thanks to his Flash Air magecraft.

It is a silver ring with a skull on it, originally worn by the family’s founder, whose name has been lost in the ages. The Ring has a strange kind of persistent displacement curse put on it that causes it to teleport back to its owner, even if they had thrown it away, tossed it in the ocean, or otherwise misplaced it or attempted to get rid of it. Xavier was given this Mystic Code by his father to help him during the duration of the War.

Not a noble by birth, Tamatori originally made a living as a humble pearl diver during the Asuka period of Japan. Her luck would forever change when the Prince of the powerful Fujiwara clan visited her village in search of some valuable treasure that had been stolen from his father by Ryujin, the Dragon God of the Sea. That treasure was actually the Tide-Controlling Jewel, a magical pearl said to be able to manipulate the tides to the holder's will. Upon meeting the beautiful Tamatori, the Prince instantly fell in love and promptly asked for her hand in marriage, which the woman gladly accepted. Now a pearl diver turned into a Princess, Tamatori lived happily with her newfound husband, and even bore him a son. However, the Prince still felt regret and shame for not having found his family's stolen treasure yet. Because of her love for her husband and son, Princess Tamatori vowed that she would go and retrieve the Fujiwara clan's stolen treasure herself, no matter the cost.
Thanks to her expert swimming capability due to having been a pearl diver, Tamatori was able to reach the undersea palace of Ryujin, and infiltrate it without being noticed. Tamatori sang a beautiful song that lulled the Dragon God and his sea monster minions into a deep sleep, then snatched the pearl and made her escape. It didn't take long, however, for Ryujin and his aquatic armies to wake up and start pursuing the thief. In a last ditch effort, Tamatori used her sword to slice her own breast open and hide the pearl inside. Upon the pearl being implanted into her body, Tamatori felt its incredible magical power course through her, as her very body mutated on the spot; The power of Ryujin turned her into a half-human, half-octopus sea monster with tentacles instead of hair. Now possessing higher strength and speed than a regular human, Tamatori was able to swim fast enough to evade her pursuers and reach the shore safely. Unfortunately, she had already suffered severe blood loss, and she ended up giving in to her wound. She didn't mind dying though; She had brought back the pearl, just as she had promised. And so, Princess Tamatori died with the most beautiful and serene smile on her face, knowing that her husband and son would be proud of her. Who knows, maybe in another life she could see them again…

The pearl was stolen from the Fujiwara clan by the Dragon God of the Sea, Ryujin. Tamatori vowed to help her husband, the Prince of the Fujiwara clan, by sneaking into the Dragon God’s undersea palace and retrieving the pearl. While being chased down by the Dragon God and his army of sea creatures, Tamatori cut open her own breast and placed the pearl inside for safekeeping. This allowed her to swim faster and escape, but she died from her wound soon after reaching the surface.
By having implanted the Tide-Controlling Jewel into her body, not only has Tamatori mutated into a half-human, half-octopus sea monster with superior strength and swimming ability, but she has also gained access to new magical powers, heralding her newfound status as a "successor of the Sea God". Acting in a way similar to a Magic Crest, the pearl has carved special Magic Circuits into her body that she didn't previously possess, which makes her capable of practicing Water Element magecraft of the highest level. She can manipulate water to her will, use water as a form of attack, or generate streams of water to crush a single enemy. However, such magics are merely an artificial reenactment of the true power the Tide-Controlling Jewel grants its holder as one with absolute control over the tides and the sea itself.
That power can only be invoked by Tamatori bringing the Tide-Controlling Jewel out her body, which is represented by one of the many tentacles making up her “hair” phasing through her own breast and pulling the pearl out. The pearl grants her access to much more advanced and powerful water-based magics than what her inherent Water Element magecraft can pull off. In the event that there is a large enough body of water nearby, complete manipulation of the tides by using the Tide-Controlling Jewel is possible, as well as creating a massive tsunami wave capable of washing away an entire army or naval fleet. Of course, the Mana cost for such a feat would be massive, and the Servant would certainly require support from her Master’s Magical Energy to even accomplish that.
