She shows little to no emotion and she speaks in a monotone voice which never changes its pitch and without any hand gestures or facial expressions. Her primary concern is to fulfil the mission of the Collective and she pursues her objectives with maximum efficiency and dedication. However, she is not completely without self-awareness and will not obey the Collective’s wishes if it would mean going to certain death. She is capable of independent thought and action but lacks any strong desire or ambition. Deep within her sub-consciousness the memories of the girl who was Minamoto Tsukasa still live and they occasionally surface, in which case Node breaks her usual emotionless act. Node has inherited Minamoto Tsukasa’s love of sweets and even as a part of the Collective she still likes to indulge her appetites from time to time.

Plot Summary of Original Content:

Human+ Action, Sci-Fi, Mecha, Military It is the year 2034 and only short time has passed since the end of the WW3 yet the peace has not come to Earth. An alien entity, known only as the Collective, has invaded the planet in search of humans with something it called the PSY-Factor – the ability to store matter in their memory and power advanced machines. The people of the Earth have nicknamed those with PSY factor “Human+” in recognition of their ability which puts them above the average humans. Using the soldiers named Nodes the Collective wrought havoc in the first years of the invasion, but some governments managed to acquire information on how to produce PSY compatible military technology. However, for this technology to work, they needed humans with PSY-Factor to operate it and have thus begun conscripting them for the war effort. Minamoto Shinji was just a regular high school student in Japan when it was discovered that he possessed the PSY-Factor and was forced to join the military in order to protect the Earth against the alien invasion.

Backstory:

Minamoto Tsukasa used to be a regular Japanese school girl. She was the younger of two siblings, with her brother Shinji being the older. Their father was a pilot in the WW3 and was killed in action and their mother, in order to support the family, had to work long hours and would come home late too tired to interact with her children. This meant that the two siblings were left to each other from a young age – Shinji was the protective older brother and it would be safe to say that Tsukasa had developed a small brother-complex. When the Collective invaded the Earth, initially there was little change to the Minamoto family’s daily life as the war was fought far away from Japan. Shinji and Tsukasa were two normal middle school students and they spent their days playing with their friends and enjoying their youth in a manner that was usual for the children their age. However, right about the time when Shinji graduated from the middle school the Human+ Conscription Act was passed by the Japanese government, requiring all people with PSY factor to join the war effort against the Collective. In a few months the PSY factor was discovered in Shinji and he was forced to join the military, to Tsukasa’s great dismay. The next year was full of dread and anxiety for Tsukasa, for she feared that ever moment the government may inform them that her older brother is dead. Her friends offered her their support, but the constant worry was wearing her down and she began failing in school and losing her cheerfulness and energy that was her trademark among her peers. When it was discovered that she also possessed the PSY factor Tsukasa was almost glad because she would be able to join her brother on the front lines. Needless to say, Shinji wasn’t at all happy to see his little sister in the army. He raised a ruckus with the high command, but only managed to get himself punished. However, noticing the great care the siblings had for each other it was decided that two would be deployed together, in hopes that they would fight extra hard to protect each other. After several months of training Tsukasa was finally deployed to the battlefield and the anticipations of the high command proved to be correct – the siblings were incredibly skilled combatants and their contribution to the Second Battle of Shanghai was immense. This earned both of them a lot of recognition and fame, both in Japan and abroad, and the two managed to become poster-children for the Humans+ and the entire war propaganda. However, the Second Battle of Shanghai was both the first and the last battle the siblings would fight together – or fight on the same side in general. The Collective managed to launch a sneak attack on Tokyo at the time when Tsukasa was visiting there to make a public appearance. Naturally, she joined the city’s defence, but the number of Humans+ stationed there was low because it was considered that Tokyo was not in great danger of an attack due to frontline still being in China. Although the Collective’s forces were eventually pushed back much of the city was destroyed and Tsukasa was missing. What wasn’t known on Earth at the time was that she was captured by the enemy and brought to its mothership, where after a long and tortuous procedure her mind was reprogrammed to unconditionally obey the Collective’s hive-mind. The human girl Minamoto Tsukasa died and in her stead only Node remained. It the next several months Node was sent on several battlefields all around the world, from North America, to Europe, to Russia and eventually to China. By the time she was sent to this last frontline it became apparent to humans that Minamoto Tsukasa was still alive, only now she was fighting for the enemy. Thus, when Node was deployed to fight in the Battle of Hong Kong she was confronted by her brother. It didn’t take long for Shinji to notice that something was fundamentally different with his little sister, but he was still unable to seriously fight her. This resulted in him getting seriously wounded by Node and in the defeat of human forces in the battle.
The anime ends there, but in the light novel the anime was based on Shinji recovers from his injuries and eventually manages to capture Node. Human scientists try to undo her reprogramming but after several failed attempts Node breaks free and Shinji is forced to fight her again. After an epic battle where the two destroy entire landscapes he is forced to kill his sister before their fight engulfs heavily inhabited area and causes immense casualties. After this event Shinji stops being the person who fights to “defend” his family and planet, and instead becomes a person who fights to “destroy” the Collective in revenge for his sister’s fate.

Weapons, Powers & Abilities:

Mark IV Nihon Battle Suit: Specially designed to be PSY compatible, Mark IV Battle suit comes with several perks. Without the energy produced by the PSY-Factor most of these wouldn’t work or would be too inefficient to operate:

Liemenz Shield: An energy barrier which prevents any particle moving at speed faster than 10m/s to pass through it, though powerful attacks will manage to push through it by sheer force. It also dampens the force of impact when the user collides with other objects.
Levitation Engine: A device in the form of "wings" strapped to the back of the battle suit which allows the user to ignore the laws of gravity and fly at 14m/s.
Optical System: Built into the helmet it possesses several modes of vision.
Enhanced Strength: Thanks to the nanotechnology incorporated into the suit, the user’s strength is enhanced far beyond the ability of an average human. A person using Mark IV Nihon Battle Suit is capable of lifting and throwing a car single-handedly.
PSY-Cannon: Although it is an object separate from the suit it is still considered part of it. PSY-Cannon is has two fire modes:

Auto: The cannon releases bolts of condensed energy – each capable of blowing an unprotected human’s limbs off – at a rate of fire rivalling assault rifles.
Charged: After a brief period of charging-up, the cannon releases a beam of energy capable of obliterating an entire tank on hit. Each shot has a brief cooldown period afterwards which affects both fire modes.

PSY-Factor: Human+ can transform any object into data store it in her memory and then later materialize it in fully functional state. This process requires some time, so it can’t be used to absorb incoming attacks, and the larger the object the longer the time to disassemble and assemble the object. Limitations are she can't store nukes and can store up to 5 separate objects at a time. Also, it allows her to power-up her battle suit and energy attacks of her PSY-Cannon by herself with only limit being her own stamina.
