I really don't want to kill off Tathein, in case Fed decides ever comes back (which he said he might, he did have a lot IR things going on). I think that he wouldn't mind if I had Tathein openly choose to leave the group after this. 

So, Rhaedin, Sevine, and Erahja are behind the bar counter waiting to spring a surprise attack. Tathein is coming up the stairs with Zal behind him while Elrithian is at the top of the stairs, about (or already did, I can't recall which) to cast a spell to distract our blue-kerchief bandits.
