tl;dr tactical situation: (correct me if I'm wrong) Just in case it helps other get an idea of the lay and get a post out. September 1st, 1961: Provincial capitol of Kantum (less than 55 miles from Saigon): Infiltrating from Laos. -Historically, this sparked a month of panic and terror in the region as the large enemy force was never decisively engaged and defeated.
consisting of a Squad leader (Type 56), Rifleman (AK-47*), Sapper (Type 56 Carbine), MG-team (DPM & AK-47), and a guide (Mosin) are infiltrating a city in advance of the main assault, tasked with eliminating outposts of resistance quickly, and efficiently**.

consists of Two groups. First is a poorly armed patrol equiped with a variety of submachine-guns, a grenade launcher, and a shotgun. Secondly, there is a larger unit tasked with occupying the hamlet consisting of a deployed MG-team, a fireteam of assorted riflemen, and a sniper on a smoke-break. No significant air, sea, or ground assets in the immediate area.

Our machine-gun has been specificly tasked with dealing with the patrol as they are marching single-file down a narrow trail, while our guide is going to try picking-off the enemy sniper from a distance before he gets a chance to snub his smokes and try being sneaky once the shooting starts.

Specifying difference between spike-bayonet Type 56 and blade-bayonet AK-47. Back in early 1960s both had milled recievers (the AKM had just been introduced in 1959 to frontline soviets). The only other difference being a hooded front sight for the Type 56 while the blade-sight of the AK-47 had a nasty tendancy to double as its own bayonet. Type 56 also has a slightly higher and harder to control cyclic RoF.

Judging by the order for all other rifles to pick targets, we are well within 300 meters of the nearest buildings. Urban assault may be a thing if any of the ARVN forces get to cover and need to be flushed out in close quarters (that or we withdraw and hope to ambush them)
If Ghe had the time, he'd probably go over the plan a few more times with the team.
