I think I see where I'm getting this wrong: I write my posts as if they happen AFTER the post before, while I'm supposed to write them as if they're happening DURING the previous post. If you read it like that, it makes sense (at least to me). The guard had already knocked Tani out, and I was using said who was not currently doing anything.
Btw I assumed the flogging guard realized it's pointless to whip someone who is unconscious.

(If anything, Yoshi got it kind of wrong, because Ignrak started following Moon after freeing Tani. He didn't just sit there and wait for guards to arrive.)
