Hey guys, recruitment is picking back up again slightly so I figured I'd make a quick announcement about player balance for anyone else who's interested. If you look at the intro post, it says you can play alphahuman or betahuman. So far all five character submitted here have been betahumans. It's pretty clear where the preference lies, so I thought I'd elaborate a bit on what it really means to play an alphahuman. When I think alphahuman, the main sorts of heroes that come to mind are supersoldiers, gadget users, gunslingers, ninjas, and spies. There's a lot of diversity to be found in a character that is essentially an improvement on normal human traits, since it leaves room for technical specialisations and a skilled approach to villainry. Furthermore, alphahumans need not have any sort of weakness, which means they are less defined as a person by their mutation, and more by how they've chosen to use their vast natural potential. Some examples I can think of actual fiction are Batman (with money instead of mutation, and a frankly unfeasible amount of training), Captain America, Deathstroke, Deadshot, Doomguy and Master Chief and other space marine types, Black Widow, the Joker, and even characters like James Bond, Rambo, John Wick, and Lara Croft who just have the insane durability and skill that audiences tend to take for granted in an action hero. I'd really encourage any other interested players (and current players if their current character dies) to try explore this kind of character if they haven't already set their mind to a particular kind of betahuman. Of course we don't want to railroad anyone into an even distribution of the two types, but I honestly think alphahumans can be just as fun and interesting so there's my two cents!
