G e n d e r : Female B r i e f B i o : Hayashi Hitomi was born into a Demon-Slaying family and, as such, was introduced early to the harsh reality of the world and the unwavering fate that awaited her in the future. However, in comparison to other members of the Demon Slaying Corps, the Hayashi sough to follow the path less soaked with blood and usually stayed away from raids on demon territories and such, instead being deployed as bodyguards to defend places or figures of interest with their lives. This was because their own breathing style, the Breath of the Forest, was one whose offensive forms were limited, but provided an tough to crack defense. Throughout the battle with Kibutsuji Muzan, roughly half of the demon hunters hailing from Hayashi family sacrificed their lives to ensure victory. Though not everyone recognizes them as heroes, they are commonly held in high regard and even have their own monument. In the present day, Hitomi, now a fully-fledged demon hunter, might look like the average girl but, after speaking to her for a while, you'll be able to realize that she has been thoroughly brainwashed from birth in order to become a selfless existence. Though her entire personality has not been wiped away, given her natural kindness and occasional cowardice, she bears no grudge towards the demons that took the lives of her family, nor towards the organization that literally disposed of them in order to win. Believing that one's worth is not defined by the way you live but, rather, by the way you die, she's constantly trying to convince herself that she is as ready to die for the honor of her peers as her ancestors were. However, when the table begins to shake, will she remain steadfast and obey a superior power like she and her family have always done? Or will she find it in her to pursue her own beliefs? Through controlled breathing, the user can enhance their sense of balance to extraordinary levels, allowing the them to quickly yet gracefully adapt to changes in the pace of the battle and counter-attack, even after their stance has been broken. However, the style demands their users to keep their feet on the ground. A derivative of the Earth Style with over eight forms, Hitomi has only demonstrated talent in three of them. ❀ First Form - Meadow Sanctuary: By briefly increasing their physical strength to match that of a demon through full-focus breathing, the user is able to parry, deflect and cut down attacks aimed at them with one (or a few) well-timed swings without the need change their current position. It's strong enough to send whatever clashes against the blade flying back several meters in a set direction, but the strength acquired is only momentary and it struggles against consecutive ranged attacks. ❀ Second Form - Swallow Upheaval: The user bends their body in a very unusual and remarkable way in order to avoid an attack that would be seemingly impossible to dodge otherwise, without having their feet leave the ground. Most often used to evade an horizontal melee attack, the user bends backward, arching back one's spine and adopting a posture which would be realistically hard to maintain without the Breath of the Forest. Then, before the enemy is even done with the execution of their attack, the user has the option to immediately counter-attack and disarm their opponent. Quite literally. ❀ Third Form - Camphor's Resolve: The user remains steadfast and through conviction alone prevents enemy attacks from disrupting their form and breathing patterns, becoming incredibly tough in the process. This technique significantly enhances the effects of basic breathing techniques known to all breathing styles, allowing increased durability and performance, as well as increasing resistance to poisonous substances as well. It can be used moments prior receiving an attack to greatly reduce the damage taken by adopting an iron-stance which makes one's skin as tough as a demon's, or it can also be used to sustain battle performance after several injuries have been inflicted upon the user. Of all three techniques Hitomi knows, this is the one she holds the highest degree of mastery over. Its grey color is usually associated with neutrality, the passing of time, loss and depression, but also dullness and preservation. Within the setting, it's also associated with the Earth Breathing Style. However, what differentiates this kind of blade from others is, without a doubt, its insane durability. It has been forged by a specialized blacksmith family using the toughest ore. While not unbreakable, the damage it can sustain before giving out is outstanding and it is said that only a fifth of broken blades belong to swords with these properties. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ [sup]O t h e r U n i q u e T r a i t s[/sup] : Heightened Hearing: An enhanced sense of hearing dormant for a good part of her life and awakened the moment Hitomi began training breathing techniques. Rather than picking up noise that's too low for the human ear to hear or being able to hear a sound over long distances, Hitomi's sense of hearing appears to work in conconjunction with the instinct of self-preservation that she has honed during her time as a demon slayer, allowing her to hear 'hostility', which is identified as an unpleasant ear-ringing sound. This allows Hitomi to anticipate ambushes and surprise attacks no matter where they come from. However, if the hostility present in the environment would prove to be extremely thick, such as one born from an incredibly powerful foe driven by a strong grudge, prolonged exposure might have an adverse effect on the user.
