Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible” - T. E. Lawrence

Los Angeles. Summer. 1987. Ronald Reagan is President of the United States. Bon Jovi is ruling the airwaves and the hot summer blockbusters this year include Predator, The Lost Boys and Robocop. The dying embers of the neon drenched 1980’s are flickering slowly towards an end and nestled somewhere between Tinseltown and the boulevard of broken dreams sits the quiet beachside neighbourhood of Oceanside. Oceanside is known for its cheap and affordable housing and local mom and pop owned amenities; making it the perfect Mecca for the up and coming entertainers of the future as they start out their long and potentially never ending journeys towards super stardom. Most of the residents of Oceanside are either the young and hungry wannabes or the old and bitter never hasbeens. This eclectic community of people is small but it is welcoming to outsiders of all color and creed, providing they chip in any and all services they can provide to keep the neighbourhood afloat and out of the grubby hands of land developers and bigwigs who would want to demolish or sell this shelter of dreams for a tidy profit.

You are a young person with big dreams and stars in their eyes. Perhaps you are a lifelong Los Anglian who has finally decided to chase their passion for music? Maybe you’re a good ol’ country boy looking to get picked up off the street to play for the Lakers? Or maybe you’re just a friend of a friend who drives them to their auditions only to be scouted yourself as the next big thing. Whatever the beginning of your story, the next chapter leads you to Oceanside and a group of friends that may or may not last a lifetime. Will you all reach the top or will some fall by the wayside? Will you stay true to yourself and your ideals? Or will you sell out for fame and glory? LA is a place where dreams can turn to nightmares and the streets were built on the bones of failed celebrity. Can you make your dreams come true? Or are you just another hollywood story that no one has ever heard of?

If you’ve made it this far congratulations! The short version of the above is that you’re character is a young person looking to make a name for themselves in 1980’s Los Angeles. They can aspire to be anything you want, actor, musician, dancer, something behind the scenes etc as long as it’s some sort of entertainment. Our characters will all be fairly recent arrivals to Oceanside but will have been there long enough to have developed a few friendships and whatnot between one another (this will be done to avoid those long drawn out intro posts) and will all live in the same general area. If people want to be roommates or housemates, couples or family, that’s more than welcome as stuff like that always adds a good new layer to a story. This is a sandbox style rp with a few surprises and scenarios thrown in by the GM. Progression of your character over time as they chase their dreams will be key to this rp, building a wealth of supporting players, environments and mythos will build up this 80’s universe and add realism to what we’re doing. The 1980’s was known for its excess so expect this rp to be 18+ with references to sex, drugs, mature themes and potentially triggering topics. If you are faint hearted, this may not be the story for you. That said this will not be smutty, in spite of its content so any non board appropriate scenes should be done in pm or faded to black. As a fun little caveat, when choosing an FC, I ask that you use someone from the 80’s or 90’s just to give this rp even more of that retro feel. So with all that said, anyone interested? If so sound off below and with enough interest I’ll add a character sheet and begin work on an OOC.
