[center]Ed has lived a fairly straightforward life. He knew what his destiny was. That was until his home was destroyed. He spent a bit of time recovering from that incident and now carries great sadness. His goal in life is to try to prevent that from happening to anyone else. 

He is, however, a product of his upbringing. This made him conceited. He has rarely failed at anything he put his mind to. Since he comes from a very structured family, he does well in groups and taking orders, even if he doesn't entirely agree with those orders.

Ed is fairly understanding of other people and their ways. He knows his family isn't the right answer, but it is so encoded in who he is he doubts he could ever break one of the laws. Even if his life depended on it, and with the less intense scrutiny he now experiences. There is no one he would have to account for his actions anymore. As he and his grandfather are the eldest members of the mutants left. Now that Ed has seen a version of himself that has broken the family laws, he trusts himself less with it. He is still debating if the laws are perfect. 

As of late, Ed has allowed himself to care for people again, and his time with the X-Men has helped with that. And, more importantly, his unexpected relationship with Amara.  [/center]

In 2021 aliens attacked Cardiff. Ed wasn't home. But almost all of his family was. Most of them died in the ensuing fight, including his twin sister, Lucy. Ed blames himself, thinking even to this day that if he had been home, he could have saved her, even if it meant his own death in exchange.

Ed has recently become a father. It is 2025; he just put the girls down for bed—his sort-of-step daughter Madalyne (soon to be 3) and his daughter Nora (~6 months). They did some trick-or-treating and are now in a candy coma. Ed's girlfriend Amara is up studying. As is he. It is a good night for that sort of thing. This is happiness. Should he ask her to marry him and move to Cardiff? Would she?

Ed knows all too well the villain he could become. The laws of his family have tightly held the family in place for generations. He has seen a version of himself that has broken those laws. He knows the things he could do if he allowed himself to break them. A simple shield around a person's heart is all it would take. They'd be dead and wouldn't even know it until it was too late. That is the gentlest of deaths too.

Ed was born to a decent-sized family. His father had several siblings who also had children. The male line carries a particular mutant gene. That, when activated through a rite, and perfected through generations, gives them the ability to use magic. Each male had a specialty. 

Ed was raised in the family ways from day one. The only difference for him was he had a twin sister. Because they were twins, they allowed his sister to go through the trial with him. When his heart stopped, she used magic to heal him. She became the most potent healer in the family. 

The pair were close and nigh inseparable. Ed was out of town working on a project when Thanos destroyed Cardiff. Most of his family, including his twin sister and father, died that day. Ed felt it was half a world away. His mother (human), uncle (mutant), great-grandfather (mutant), and some cousins live. They were either out of town or got lucky.

His family had believed in secrecy, but it was never officially one of the tenants of their laws. As they thought they should be allowed to tell their spouses. Pissed and broken-hearted, Ed set out to protect the world. He couldn't bear to see the devastation and left Cardiff. While Ed lost some direction in his life with the loss of most of his family, he gained a new desire.

Once Ed felt comfortable joining the world again, he started searching for potential ways to help people. He knew that relations between humans and mutants were tense. He had heard of the X-men before, and similar groups; something about the mission of X-men resonated with Ed. He spent some time deciding since he knew Xavier was a telepath. Since he feels that people who are not members of his family do not have to follow the same laws, he decided to ask any telepath he encountered to be respectful of his wishes and not invade his mind without his permission. 

After joining the X-men, Ed has gone on several adventures—some into space and even other dimensions. In more recent times, he hooked up with Amara. The two have a daughter together. Ed's grandfather, the current family patriarch, stoutly refuses to consider her for the family rite. The only known female to have been allowed to do the rite is Lucy (Ed's twin sister). Ed has since come to the decision that as the soon-to-be-patriarch of the family, he will not prevent the women in the family from going through the rite. Lucy was proof enough for him that there was no reason they couldn't. This will change the family dynamic greatly, opening up a lot of potential.
