To answer that last part:
The crystal kingdom IS a mixed world. By that, I mean it isn't just humans, full blooded humans, who live there. Remember how the warriors looked like, or seemed to be like, in the prompt looked, or appeared to be like, to the princess, the main female lead? That's a key detail here. 

As far as the distant past, long long long long ago, it most likely would have been typical fighting amongst various fantasy kingdoms, for your typical reasons we have seen before, regardless of species and all that. so, it wouldn't have just been humans fighting amongst themselves and all that. 


To finish this off: 
This isn't the modern world (like our real life world). All kinds of creatures, beings, exist here.
