“Well, I guess that’s all I need to know for now. Train Bardulf, huh? Definitely. Guess I’ll ask him about his weird ea-” Good… I’d hate what I’d have to consider doing to you if you pushed the topic. What a waste that would be. Despite the grim thought, Mister Luum kept up his pleasant expression, if those familiar with him could call it that. That constant cheery smile of his had always accompanied his nonsensical ways. An expression that was initially welcoming could in time garner irritation. It was something most if not all would believe he was oblivious to but the middle-aged elven mage knew what he was doing. He always knew what he was doing… and that might be one of the most unsettling mysteries of the enigma that was Mister Luum. Just as Zeva’s attention had been affixed to his display of magic, Mister Luum found his sights locked on Zeva’s attempt to accomplish something similar to what he had just performed. Something that was simply child’s play for him was like forcing a large boulder to budge for the young elf. She accomplished so little but her effort was something to admire. For Mister Luum, magic had always seemed spectacular and was something he could speak and ponder about for hours at a time, especially that of light magic. There were many theories on the topic, showing that even the magically inclined denizens of Avalia still lacked all the answers to it. Perhaps that’s part of what always allured Mister Luum to it. “Wow, I haven’t seen a lot of warforged but this one’s so pretty! Wonder if she’s strong too…” “Strong… Ehhh, they did not do much to help us win the war. They were built to fight, sure but they lack things that make truly good soldiers. Hmm…” Mister Luum looked on as the Bardulf approached the warforged before he could elaborate further. His words had been interrupted by the wheels turning in his head more so than normal. “I think you’re onto something, Zeva. A warforged could prove useful to us. To give purpose to a compact war machine without a purpose. Genius!” Mister Luum’s eyes lit up as if he had just won a table at one of Roshmi’s gambling halls. It seemed like his attention was completely taken by the idea until he used his staff to softly tap the hand Zeva had conjured magic with. “An old teacher of mine, and she was very old by the way, once told me that magic is easy for everyone and that the hard part is figuring two things: The talent of your magic that comes more naturally to you and how to apply that talent to whatever else you can do… or want to do. Projection, imbuement, shaping, channeling, bending, and a bunch of other things are different areas that some are better at than others.” He shrugged. “Stick with us, and I’ll ensure you won’t need a fancy school to be incredible… I did of course but you won’t, I assure you.” He gave her an assuring wink, though how can someone be sure when it’s Mister Luum?
Mister Luum is glad that Zeva did not push on the subject of Bardulf. Despite her minor display of magic, Mister Luum is actually glad to see Zeva making an attempt at it. He ponders the idea of the usefulness of a warforged before considering obtaining the one on deck but does not reveal why of course. It can’t be good. He then gives Zeva reassuring words on practicing magic and finding her talent to focus on.
