Katie - Underground - Time to Play The little girl skipped along the hall. "Daddy!" she called out. "Daddy!" She ended up turning a corner and smacking into one of her daddy's men. He helped her up. "Katie, you shouldn't be wandering around like this. You might get in trouble." Katie sighed the sigh of a bored little girl. "I don't want to stay in my room anymore. I want to play." "You can paly by yourself. Everyone is busy." Katie pouted. "I want my daddy to play with me." "He's ah... busy." "He's always busy," Katie complained sadly and folded her arms, frowning. It was true. Whenever she wanted her daddy she was told the same thing : he was busy. Everyone was always busy. She didn't want to ever be a grownup. They had no fun. "Come on, let's get you back to where you belong," the man said and reached for her hand. Katie dodged and took off, giggling. "Come back here!" he shouted at her and chased her. Katie giggled. She was faster then him. He was fat and slow. She scrambled up into a dry drainage pipe and laughed as the man tried to reach her but couldn't. She stuck her tongue out at him and crawled off into the pipe. If he wouldn't take her to her daddy, she'd find him by herself. Katie crawled around for a little bit before she got down into an empty corridor. She heard men talking and moved quietly along the wall. Then she heard her daddy's name mentioned. He had to be around here somewhere. Her hand was on a doorknob when she heard the distant echo of a scream. Katie's smile faded. She froze and stared off down the hallway. The scream echoed again, making her scared. Was someone hurt? Was someone getting sick like the people above? She remembered the night she heard screaming... the night her brother had gone away... "It's the kid!" someone shouted. Katie scrambled as someone picked her up. She kicked and beat at them with her fists. "Put me down! I want my daddy!" "What a damn brat," he muttered as he carried her off down the hall. "You said a bad word! I'm gonna tell!" Katie shouted. "Daddy!"
