Weird. I don't know, maybe GRR Martin had big plans for a lot of build up before the next killing spree at the last stretch of the book. When the White Walkers will at last become relevant (I hope).
Series would be a lot more dull without the genuine risk of things going unexpectedly to shit and important characters dying.
