As the Second World War came to a close, the enormity of the Nazi leadership's crimes against humanity could no longer be hidden or ignored. With cold and righteous fury, the nations of the world turned their attention to the men and women who had orchestrated such monstrosities. The survivors of their crimes viewed the trials with silent tears, the hangings with grim satisfaction, and the future with cautious optimism. "Never forget," they said as Tsion was opened.

There were some of these horrific criminals, however, who were indeed forgotten. Whether through luck, charity, or careful planning, these men had escaped capture and retribution and gone into hiding. Living quiet, anonymous lives, these Nazi escapees thought themselves untouchable. The years passed, cities were rebuilt, futures forged. But some scars never heal.

The year is now 1956. You have been invited to London to meet with several others in your line of work: detectives, hitmen, adventurers, spies, soldiers of fortune, bounty hunters. There, two men offer you an extended contract to hunt down these escaped war criminals. Your charge is not to arrest them. Your charge is to kill them, to visit them with retribution.

So, the overall idea for this is a sort of Ian Fleming/ John le Carre feel, that sense of Cold War paranoia mixed with intense action. This is for mature and patient RPers- there is careful detective work and espionage to be done before each assassination can be planned, not to mention the inevitable character building and conflict. My vision is for this RP to span years, maybe even decades. You'll still be hunting Nazis in 1976. Characters will age, die, be replaced.

"Gee, cyclopean one," you may say to me, "that sounds like a lot of fun but I'm not sure I can commit the time to it." I understand completely. I run two businesses and I'm in the process of setting up a third, my leisure times are few and far between. That's the beauty of this one. This RP will be episodic, a series of small vignettes focusing on one hunt or case within the overarching plot. Think like individual episodes of a TV show. My goal is to play out each vignette in one to three weeks real time, with a break in between each. That way, you can do "Paris, October 1958" with us all, then skip "Montevideo, March 1959" so you can focus on moving or finals or whatever might need your attention, then hop right back in for "Lahore, January 1960". This also means new people can join us at any time, all they need do is wait for the start of the next case so as to make their introduction feel a little more natural.

So, does this idea intrigue anyone?

I've been looking for something to possibly get me back on the bandwagon. What are your thoughts on the frequencies of posts and general participation?

Also, if we're making multiple characters, are we sticking with our initial roles (for example, I pick acting as the marksman on missions, my subsequent characters are all marksmen)? Will we debate on switching roles, or do we pick as we please?

Good questions.

I think everyone should post at a rate they are comfortable with and participate as much as they are able. I've seen a lot of good RPs killed by "I was waiting for someone else to post," which I'd like to avoid if possible.

Roles aren't going to be dead set, it's a team of individuals first and foremost. To use your example, if one guy is the team marksman, it's not because that is a role that must be filled every single time, it's because that character is skilled in that area and assumes that task when it comes up. I'd like to see well-rounded characters, not minmaxing.

Alright. Are there any government agencies in on this operation as well, particularly Germany or Israel? Considering what Israel did with Eichmann in the 1970's (I believe it was the seventies), it would not surprise me at all that they were at least aware of this. Are we also looking for former Soviets involved with the gulags and massacres on the Eastern front?
Edit: It was the sixties, my mistake.

Without giving away too much, it's a privately funded effort that has the tacit support of Israeli and West German authorities. As it's the Fifties to start with, the Soviets and their clients are still looking after their own, so we likely won't have much opportunity to go after them. The focus will primarily be on former SS men and a few collaborators.

So in this sort of alternate history, monsters like Josef Mengele could be found? That's grounds enough for me to be interested, I always thought it would be interesting if some of these men were snuffed out without a trial. In any case, I will monitor this thread actively.

The first thing we'll do is kill all the Nazis.

Why does Lieutenant Aldo Raine come to mind? Oh, right...

"You probably heard we ain't in the prisoner-takin' business; we in the killin' Nazi business. And cousin, business is a-boomin'."

Well, my plan was to focus on fictional Nazis (though a lot of them would be based on real life fugitives, like Mengele, Eichmann, and Cukurs). I wouldn't feel right casting real life monsters in a game, even as villains. Besides, I'd like a bit of wiggle room for the story I have in mind, which original characters are better for.

Hope you're still interested even with this in mind.

Of course, it doesn't take away from the fact of what they represent and that actually makes more sense as sensitivity is key to those who went through untold horrors. So long as I get my scalps, I'm content. (Joking, not seriously.)

EDIT: In the same style as movies like The Debt hunting down a Mengele-like character.

I'm just fine; I was just joking. I was interested in the idea, not the actual killing of Nazis.

Come on people of the RPG! We need somebody! Just don't be Nobody; Polyphemus still has issues about that.
