Some of my favorite Spammers are fairly verbose. Intelligent conversations happen in Spam all the time. Spam does have a number of games that call for short posts, so pages and pages of one-liners is not uncommon. This is a strange thread for this particular debate. Returning to the gender discussion, I think there are couple of reasons why we see sexism among gamers/geeks/whatever. The men who assumed the only video game I played was the Sims were just idiots, and there is really no excuse for that sort of behavior. But I play a lot of video games, and I've had men react differently when they find out I'm a female. Some refuse to shoot/fight me. Some give me extra ammo/money/items. Some single me out, and spend the entire match trying to kill me. Some do everything that they can to protect me. And other still send me cheesy pickup lines. So why treat me differently for being a woman? Each reaction could have a different explanation, and these could even differ from person to person. I asked some of the men who gave me things, and they all told me that they worried I would be discriminated against - that the gaming world was tough for girls. The guys who refused to shoot me/insisted on protecting me said the same. One gentleman said his little sister played, and he knew how hard of a time she had. I don't know what to say for the guys who single me out. A complete removal of sexism will require more than just telling boys to stop being immature. People treat the other sex differently for so many reasons. And men aren't the only ones making this happen. I've played with a lot of women who say things like "don't shoot, I'm a girl," "let me in your guild, I'm a girl," and "please give me ammo, I'm just a helpless girl." It comes from both directions, no doubt. I don't have a solution. I'm just reflecting.
