I expect that Vendican and Ashkante know one-another, as famous lords of Ferros. I sort of picture them with a Varys The Spider/Littlefinger relationship. But with more badassery.

EDIT: Also, he knows Demonology? I thought that it's study was expressly forbidden for our characters to start with.
