A Rude Awakening

Day 1
As the young goblin opens their eyes for the first time, they see the face of one of the elders of their kind. Wrinkles sprinkle her face and she smiles down on the newborns.

"This generation looks strong." She says with a light smile.

The older goblin picks one of the younglings up and examines it. She begins dipping her thumb in a paint-like substance as she christens each one with their names.

This is where you were born. This is where your legend begins.

Day 3
When the young goblins awoke, they had all changed drastically. Their growth rates truly were incredible. Only two days ago these goblins were newborns. Some of them were already awake walking around and examining the cave with their new full grown bodies.

Watching over them was the adopted grandmother of this generation, Gobbie. Her face was covered in wrinkles but she had a very kind visage.

The cave they were in was apparently a former nursery that was left by it's former tribe. They ran to the north when the humans discovered the area and left the infants behind. They could have stayed and risked their entire clan, or leave and gamble the lives of those left behind.

In the end, a goblins quick growth has made you. The first generation of goblins who must truly work from the ground up. Single mistakes could potentially cause death.

Outside the cave, sunlight shone through the trees. The goblins were only three days old, but they were mature enough to survive in the wild. One by one they began opening their eyes and waking up. Their stomachs growled and they all knew it was time to hunt through sheer instinct.

There would be no helping hand through this process. It was all down to the goblins themselves.

OOC: Welcome! You find yourself in a forest cave with an elderly goblin watching over you. As surprised as you may be, you noticed something even more startling. You are no longer human, but a mere goblin. What are you going to do now? If you want to start a dialogue with Gobbie, you may do so in the OOC or via PM. This'll help us avoid cluttering the IC Thread with single questions and the like. Have fun!

Atlack woke up for what at first seemed to be no discernible reason, however this belief was quickly disproved by the urgent rumbling of her stomach. Well. There was only one way to fix that. With food! Atlack stood up and began heading towards the cave exit. She obviously needed to find food and to do that she would need to go out and look for it. To achieve that end was fairly simple. Atlack would probably be looking for either edible plants or maybe animals that she could sneak up on. Atlack somehow doubted that she would be fast enough to catch many critter so she offhandedly hoped it wouldn't come down to that.

Simma had been to first to walk. She had beaten out the next person waking by around three minutes, and in a very polite fashion, abused these three minutes to take a very large rag from the room. She wrapped it around herself, becoming a blob of cloth and haute couture. Well, at least compared to the other goblins. Once all wrapped up, her appearance became heavily concealed. Rather than the shapely (more than one shape) body of a goblin, she had become a sphere of fabric. She quickly slumped down in her textile cocoon and fell asleep once more.

She was awoken quite abruptly a few minutes later. Quite a rude awakening, but it was as to be expected for slackers. Disgruntled and tired, she slowly trawled along the floor towards the exit. Perhaps outside, she would find a nice place to sleep. Though, she didn't quite know what this outside would be. She just wanted to find a nice place to rest.

Once outside, she looked around. Trees, trees, and more interestingly, trees. The entire place had the entire "same-y" aura around it, as if it was some kind of starting area. Without any sort of regards, she headed due left of the cave exit. No particular reason.

Mi woke up inside of a cave not knowing how he got here but all he knew and needed to fulfill a need to eat, Heading out of the cave slowly towards the cave exit. Of course this was when he noticed another goblin which looked like a female was making way to the exit of the cavern. Hiding behind a rock walking ahead when she was moving hiding once in a while so he would not be caught.

Scar awoke and promptly squinted. He couldn't comprehend much for the moment. There were some other sleeping shapes, all rather ugly. He himself... Wow. "I'm ugly". He thought aloud. He didn't enjoy this fact, somewhere deep down it felt wrong to him. More than addressing this, he wanted to eat. The outside looked extremely bright to him, but... Not too far from the cave he saw something he liked.

Scar made a break through the daylight, shoving his past some kind of cocoon. His feet kicked up a huge volume of dirt and he slid into underbrush, twigs flicking in protest into his arms and face. He clambered into a huge hole in the trunk of a gnarled tree, and spotted there a small construction of twigs. There were some eggs inside as well... He had no need for those. He upturned the nest and saw the eggs crack below, and donned the whole thing as hat atop his somewhat tall fluffed hair. Beneath the nest were some beetles eating away at the wood and trying to start little beetle families... He didn't care for their plight. He began to shovel into his jowls as quick as he could. Somewhere deep in his mind he thought "Nature is bounteous." Or maybe it wasn't him, but a vestige of someone else entirely.

Glumwort wrinkled her tiny nose at her current predicament. She had vague recollections of a penthouse apartment and owning lots of wonderful, shiny stuff. This cave did not have enough shiny stuff in it, and Glumwort most definitely took offense to it.

She also took offense to the old lady who'd been looking after her the last few days. I mean, the whole free-ride thing was nice, having someone else to do all the dirty work for you. But there was something deeply offensive about how kind and motherly this woman looked.

Obviously, Glumwort was the most loving and motherly person in this room, despite the fact that she was for all intents and purposes, a goblin baby. It was important that everyone knew this, and Glumwort was going to make sure of that. Whether they liked it or not.

After a brief and heated exchange with the old broad, Glumwort set to work on her goals. It was her duty as Mother Duck to "assist" the runt of the litter to grow up big and strong and bulletproof. Glumwort's idea of "assisting" was neither optional nor pleasant. If anything it ended with the death of innocence, hopes and dreams.

Now, what poor sod needed her help most of all? She let her beady, judging eyes scan over the infantile drudge of child-goblin inferiors that cluttered the room. Why, that little grub who just mosey'd on out of the place looked a few inches shorter then Glumwort. Obviously, this made Glumglum superior to her in every way, not that Glumwort wasn't already superior to everyone present.

But how dare that little brat outshine her in those fancy rags. Glumwort slapped on some good old fashoined mud and then strode out the cave on the lookout for that little gal to push in the dirt. Maybe she'd make her eat some rocks to toughen her up, if she could find her...

Then Glumwort would look for lovely, delectable shinies. And a badger to eat alive, or something.

Updates!

Goblin Atlack and Goblin Mi
Atlack was one of the many who succumbed to her primal urges; hunger was definitely too powerful a craving to simply deny. Her train of thought was simple; leave the cave and hunt for food. The forest was very large, but also full of life during the day. All the creatures at night tended to be the top predators of the area. No goblin had any hope for competing with those monsters anyways.

Atlack continued on her search to no avail. but little did she know, another goblin was trailing her from behind. Mi was a different kind of goblin; most had one or two things on their mind which drove them. Mi had several others and one of which was trickery. Atlack was in for quite a day.

The few creatures they saw were the birds of the forest, which she had no chance at catching while they were so high up in the trees.

Soon enough, she found a rather interesting creature though. It was two Horned Rabbit that was munching on a large bush. Drool had suddenly dripped from her mouth; Atlack was ready to hunt. Mi on the other hand, was clearly intrigued by the creature. From behind a tree, he picked with a cocked head to one side as he tried to make heads and tails of the beast.

Goblin Simma and Goblin Glumwort
Unlike her brethren, Simma's instincts had different priorities. While others realized the need to hunt, Simma's body, knew all too well, the importance of rest. Eventually, she had convinced herself to start moving, which led her outside their cave.

Behind her, drenched in mud and dirt, was Glumwort.

Most had plunged themselves deep within the confines of the jungle-like forest while like Simma chose to head towards the path less taken. It appeared to be a poorly crafted trail that lead to what sounded like stream. Simma probably was unaware of what it was, but the sound of running water was somewhat soothing. And anything soothing, made a good place to take a nap.

Glumwort on the other hand, had different plans. One by one, she'd show all the other goblins who was the best around. Simma just was unfortunate enough to be the first.

They had stumbled upon a small river covered in the shade of numerous trees. And ankle deep in the stream, taking a drink, was a Red Deer Fawn. It had four eyes, four ears, and a pair of antlers that looked like they were made of rose quartz. What it was doing alone? We're not entirely sure.

The only thing that they were certain of was that the deer was not looking for any trouble.

Goblin Scar
If I had to describe Scar in one word, it would be swift. From a state of stupor to dashing right out of their cave, he wasted little to no time in starting his day. The vivid sights and boisterous sounds of the forest weren't enough for Scar. He had to experience nature himself.

In exchange of his endeavor of trying to be one with nature, several twigs, eggs and beetles had to be sacrificed. Unscathed from all his tumbling and turning, the young goblin stood tall with a nest resting upon his proud mound of hair.

However, while all of this was taking place, in front of him was an on looker who's eyes were filled with nothing but curiosity. It was an Armored Tanuki.

Simma froze after seeing the Red Deer Fawn. It was small, just like her. Though, that is a relative term. It looked so soft and pleasant. Beautiful, elongated antlers that looked as if they were crystalline. Numerous hard, black eyes that sat on its face, but most importantly, that red fur that looked so, so soft; it was as if it was nature's natural pillow. She wanted it. She wanted it now.

Without too much hesitation, she began to scrounge around for any sort of food. Grass, nuts, even fruit. Nothing would be too good for such an little baby. Once she had collected all that she could find, she slowly approached the deer. Not that she did so in a knowingly careful manner. If she could, she would rush the deer and give it hugs. However, her swathe of cloth prevented this. It was like she was a big snail, gliding across the ground.

Her hands erupted out of some folds of fabric in front of her body, making her look even more distended. Her hands formed a bowl and once she was close enough, she slowly moved them out further, showing the fawn the food that she had collected specifically for them.

A beetle husk fell from the corner of Scar's mouth as he met the gaze of a stranger. The Armored Tanuki looked smart to him. Were those plates on it's back? How clever... I want to be clever, he thought. Maybe there was a way he could be more like the creature that lay watching him. He reasoned that the creature was wondering how it could be more like him as well, judging by how it was examining him. Maybe it would be in both of their best interest if Scar examined the tanuki more closely.

Scar wasn't fast, but he was sudden, and spontaneous. The tanuki thought it was nestled in foliage such as branches and leaves. But with a crash there was nothing between it and Scar. He closed the distance simply, snapping through the weak undergrowth to arrive directly in front of the tanuki and get his hands on it. The tanuki knew of no animal with such a lack of grace and yet stunning efficiency. It was like the goblin now grappling it was a tiny bull in a tiny china shop. The foliage hadn't seen it coming and now it was flattened and broken. The tanuki could be next for all it knew. For now it was being stared at, held and groped by a monster with the shining eyes of a child that has been presented a toy. For some reason there was a weird expression of camaraderie on Scar's face as he aggressively invaded the critter's space.

Stinkbomb

The little green goblin was sprawled across a bed of dead leaves in the cave, arms and legs stretched out and mouth hanging open with a stream of hot drool trailing down his cheek to his pointy ear. His chest rose and fell with his audible open-mouthed snores. Flies danced and partied over his smelly form. He had slept in a secluded area of the cave due to other goblins complaining about his stench. Stinkbomb was his name, and he had become so desensitized to his own musk that he had actually believed it to be a natural odor that all goblins should have.

The goblin had large hands with rough fingers and large feet. His torso was smaller than his limbs and his ears were the size of mini traffic cones. A sharp and abrupt fart escaped from between the goblin’s legs, causing him to snort loudly and wake in a start. The sounds of machinegun fire and exploding bombs strangely echoed through his head as he groggily looked about the cave, eyes squinting through heavy lids. He sat upwards, motioning to his simian stance, resting all his weight upon his knuckles. He noticed that a few goblins had left already. What? They could go outside now?

Stinkbomb’s eyes opened a little wider with excitement as he scampered over to the cave entrance. He sat down on his bottom like a dog and raised his big foot to the side of his head as he began using his dark, cracked and plate-like nails to claw at the back of his head. After a good scratch, he dropped his leg and a large grin expanded on his face as he took off like a dart into the foliage (and he might have left a green odor-like trail with how bad he smelled—let’s just say the flies were upset that he left).

The ground was wet and cool beneath his hands and feet. The bushes wiggled and the dead leaves leapt to his scampering. The goblin leapt onto an old mossy fallen tree and ran across it up to a broken limb that made a good perch for surveying the forest.

A bird started singing, uttering a musical tune. Stinkbomb’s ears twitched to the sound and he peered up at the bird that was puffing its feathers and singing away. Dragging his tongue across his dry lips, Stinkbomb happily attempted to sing back to the beautiful bird:

“Rah-rah-rah-rah-raaaaah!” the goblin sang.

His breath gradually travelled on the air, drifting over to slam the poor bird in its face. The bird’s beady eyes bulged in shock, its feathers ruffling as though a shudder had shot up its spine. It couldn’t sing! It couldn’t breathe! To Stinkbomb’s surprise, the bird suddenly collapsed from the tree, legs in the air and curled.

The goblin blinked as he stopped singing before his eyes narrowed mischievously. He looked left and then right before he climbed down from the broken branch and hopped down from the log. He walked over to bird and nudged it with his fingers. The bird gave no response and it was still soft and warm. Score! Snatching the bird within his grubby hand, he tossed it into his mouth. He chewed its corpse, spitting feathers as he happily pranced back into the bushes.

“Rah-ree-rah-raaah~!” he continued to sing. The bird’s song was now stuck in his head.

Atlack gazed at the two rabbits hungrily, not even noticing the tidbits of drool, the only thing stopping her from jumping on them right then and there were those fearsome looking horns. Perhaps one of them and she wouldn't have given it a second thought, but two of them was a different beast altogether. They were small, but they only meant they were a little bit smaller than her, those horns were more than large enough to skewer her. Now Atlack was not a tactician by any means but her small brain knew something else was in order. At least they hadn't noticed her. Hm... Atlack stared at them dully for a few moments, then looked around for ideas, spotting her tail unless he was careful. But more importantly she'd found a fairly large rock. Atlack picked up it, hefted it experimentally and peered at the rabbits some more. She could throw it at one... but then the other would be fine. Oh a stick! It was a fairly hefty short stick, it would allow her to clash with one of the rabbits if it came down to. Atlack hurled the rock as hard as she could at the head of one of the rabbits. Given she hadn't been detected, an entirely possible development, it should land squarely on the poor thing's skull and crush it. Atlack immediately picked up the stick and held it up warily, unsure of what would happen next. Bunnies just ate plants so the other one should run now, right?

When Jeas finally woke up, the first thing he noticed was that most of the other Goblins were missing. While he a bit concerned for them the cave had been safe for his entire life and he doubted that would ever change, so he was sure they weren't in danger. Using the cavewall for support he got up and went to check for food. For some reason there wasn't a single bite to eat in the entire cave. Confused he asked Gobbie for a snack but she told him he would have to hunt for it himself outside.

Jeas stared at the large world just beyond and nervously made hi first step into the forest. When he wasn't immediately attacked by who knows what he relaxed a bit. Five minutes later he had gathered enough courage to move his other foot out of the cave. He decided that he would look for food here so he coulf run back to safety and let Gobbie deal with any monsters that attacked him and that he would only move on if he didn't find anything.

Eventually, gradually, with excruciating slowness, a large form unfolded in the middle of the now empty goblin nest. The form, which may have been three or four goblin babies, was in fact a single specimen. He scratched his chest idly, his wide tongue wetting his lips, while his gaze lazily searched for the other children, most of which huddled around him for warmth the night before. A not entirely unpleasant pain shot through his eyes when he looked at the daylight creeping in from outside - it was time to move, to live, and every muscle and nerve in his body ached to be used.

He looked at his feet, and found between them and his gut a small piece of cloth tied with a loose string around his waist. He was strangely proud of this thing, his first invention, solving some strange unspoken need he had to have something over his privates. But the day, ah yes, it had so much more opportunity -

ROOOARRRRRRRRRRGHHH

The sudden loud noise sent the goblin named Klump scampering to a corner of the cave. Trying to push as much of himself as he could into the shadow, his eyes darted all over the cave, searching for the hidden assailant. But other than Gobbie, who didn't seem worried at all, and a few sleeping children, he was alone.

The roar came back, as loud as before, with a strange deep pain in Klump's gut. He slapped his forehead - he was hungry is all! And it was high time to do something about it.

With a careful waddle, Klump emerged from the cave mouth. It was his first time, and he met a plethora of new visual experiences. Which he had the intention of turning into culinary ones. He pulled a large, teardrop shaped leaf from a nearby brush and carefully tasted it. It had a strong, bitter taste, with a slight grassy tang. Filing it away under his loincloth, he proceeded to taste all the plants in his vicinity in search for one nutritious and tasty.

Mi who was watching this was surprised by her attempt but knew that she would be someone that he would have to look over,Moving to the next rock that was a bit closer to the female goblin. "Interesting...i wonder if she is going to eat it?And what of that rabbit will it attack her?If so should i help her or watch her die?" He thought to himself snickering softly.

Watching Atlack chuckling the rock at the rabbit.

Nick woke up.
He was rather good at it, he reckoned. His eyes opened and the dream, which it must've been, was gone. Instantly he sat up and looked around in the darkness. Some light passed in from a hole in the wall and lit the cave up to a point where no kind of torch was needed to see. An elderly, ancient goblin stood there. Watching the fresh batch of goblins. Nick pulled himself into an upright position and with another incredible ability managed to alternate his weight between the lower stumps that shot out of his torso and thus move the entirety of his entity forward, toward this ancient being.
He locked eyes with her and felt en incredible warmth and wisdom coming from inside. He smelled the air around her and somehow remembered that smell together with safety and tenderness... And a good thrashing for something.
He opened his mouth and spoke to her, with a worried expression on his face and the kind of deliberate articulation that made very clear that even the act of speaking took up a considerable amount of brain capacity.
"Hello"

Not waiting for a reply, Nick's eyes were on the move. He turned away and bent over so far that, in order to keep his balance, he had to put some weight on his arms. Scurrying around in there on all four like a dog or a rat or a cat or a mouse or a tortoise...
What was he doing again?
He sat down to figure it out, he had been doing something, otherwise he couldn't forget what it was. You don't forget nothing. His eyes wandered around the cave and fell to the floor where a smooth pebble was stuck with a ray of sunshine. Happy about this new discovery he dragged himself over to it, completely forgetting about the revolutionary locomotive system that he'd used the lower stumps for earlier. He picked up the pebble and held it between two fingers. As he held it, it became warmer. Thinking that the pebble might get uncomfortably warm he put it back down on the ground again.

The mighty roar of a battling dragon of the demon realm was heard and instantly drew Nick's attention to it in short bursts. A big, fat goblin tried to make himself into a pancake to escape the sound. He looked terrified and sweaty. Then the sound came again, this time from the fat goblin's middle part, the big one. Fatty left the cave, using an ingenious mode of transportation where he moved his lower stumps to go forward. Nick tried his hardest to imitate the fat one, but he hadn't eaten enough, not even if he held his breath and puffed up his cheeks did he look anywhere near the big one.

Not wanting to leave this new comrade, Nick picked up Pebble and walked out into the forest and the sunshine.
The big fat one tasted a leaf. So did Nick. He didn't care for it much, but kept eating it because in the second that it had taken Nick to pick up the leaf that had fallen from the fat one's unmentionables he'd already wandered away and was putting something else in his mouth. It was going to be a long day.

Jitter slumbered on the rocky ground, he twitched and shifted as he slept. With a sudden jolt his eyes slammed open. He shifted nto a sitting position, eyes wide as he took in the sudden change of scenery.

Was it even a change of scenery? A sudden new flood of twitches happened as a foggy image of a darkened space trickled into his mind.

He put one shaky green hand against his lumpy forehead as the image faded away and was quickly forgotten. His stomach growled and he got to to his unstable feet, a much more important task brought to the forefront of his mind, finding food.

He grew more sure footed as he took his first steps. After having a quick talk with an elderly goblin near the mouth of the cave it was made apparent that no, she would not feed him and that he would have to find his own food.

Jitter began to creep out of the cave, his cowardice outweighed by the need for food. He ignored the large goblin sampling everything around him and slowly creeped off to the right, looking for anything that looks edible.

Glumwort strode with great purpose down the humble path. She came to a clearing and spied her prize - Simma, dressed up in her fashoinable rags, delightfully entertaining a giant slab of meat.

Well then, this was an unexpected gift. The runt of the litter had led Glumwort directly to her dinner, and it was deer, arguably the third most delectable meal, after elephants and the blood of virgins.

Glumwort crouched in the nearby bushes, licking her lips with her long, bumpy purple tongue. The little one was lulling it into a false sense of security with beans or horse dung or something. Glumwort didn't care, but she was loathe to admit she was at least 0.000001% impressed. To capture and devour such a beautiful, adorable creature - well, Glum hadn't expected the ball of cloth to have it in her. As it was, Glumwort's respect for her rose a smidge. She did appreciate not dying from starvation.

Good thing the little blob planned on eating it and not taming it like some soft-hearted fool. Then Glom would be enemies with her for probably ever, if she successfully denied Glom her meal. But that wouldn't happen, obviously, because deer meat was delicious.
Glom quietly foraged for some sort of projectile - preferrably a pointy stick that'd work as a nice javalin, but anything that could potentially knock the beast down before it had a chance to scarper.
