[Interest Check] Masks- A New Generation

So, as the topic has stated, I aim to see if there is any interest in getting a game of Masks going. For the uninitiated, Masks is a 'Played by the Apocalypse' game where you take up a role/archetype of a Teen superhero growing up in a world where everyone wants to tell you what you should grow up to be. You are joined by others facing the same plight and together you all will fight villainy, adolescence, hormones, and childish adults who think they know better.

Story background will be determined by the answering of playbook and background questions, however, the game will take place within default Halcyon City (think modern Marvel Comics New York), and I will be aiming for content no greater than PG-13 (think Marvel Cinematic Universe).

I aim for a post rate of once a day minimum, as well as moderate spelling and grammar. I'm not going to be a Spelling Bee Nazi, but please make an attempt to proofread so that others can follow your words.

So... who's interested?

Well, I was first checking for interest. Now that I've gotten it, I can say that I'll aim for a max of five. We've reached minimum. :)

we're starting character building here for the sake of waiting for more people. That way if we finish character building here and no more takers show up, we can start (while conveniently having a nice time limit/deadline for people to sign on).

If you have interest, have at least a character concept ready so that you can enter character building as painless as possible.

Hi, taker here. Apocalypse-style systems are always fun, and I've been craving superheroes recently. Looking at the playbook pdfs, I'm liking the look of The Janus the most.

On another note: probably playing Doomed. Weird that when they sent the final book in the backerkit, it didn't come with the playbooks. Not that I don't have several copies of them already, but still...I have my prerelease ones. They're probably unchanged. ^~^

I was considering Transformed, too.
I actually hadn't considered anything past "I want to enjoy doomsigns and the like", so probably Doomed, but Transformed can get them later.
Personality will probably be my usual, which is...oddly similar to Ruby from...well...ja, RWBY. >.>
Or I could go with my Doomed-with-Legacy-backstory-stuffs that I did for another if you'd allow it. It was very Faustian (what with the hero name "Doktor Faustus" being passed on from parent to child and the same immortal supervillain following them around since the beginning). Mind you, that broke lore, since the book was based on the book itself, and this supervillain (Mephistopheles) was that same one...so way before supers were a thing...
Can easily modify it to work. I could go with a regular Doomed character and still do that if you have something against the Legacy mix (which is totally acceptable and understandable).
Never really got to play as that one so she'd be new to me, too.

Rough idea of my Janus? You could say I have something like that, yeah.

Her motivation for becoming a hero would be getting to feel like she has personal agency for once, in an environment with minimal perceived repercussions and more chances to make a difference. There were a few other reasons she keeps a secret identity that I thought of and can't quite remember, but I think one of them was related to a supervillain.

The three obligations I had in mind were Job - Intern, School - Photography Club, and some kind of home obligation I haven't quite sorted out. The first two were chosen because it might be easier to make potential plot developments with them. Her Mask would be Freak-type because yeah.

For power I was thinking Insect/Rodent Control + Senses or Impossible Mobility + Senses for "like a C-list supervillain" and "generic all-rounder", respectively. Which was supposed to be tied to the idea of being-a-hero-but-not-quite-a-100%-hero that fits well with the Janus theme. Plus the other three powers didn't really resonate with me as much; although I was briefly entertaining Substance Mimicry + Insect/Rodent Control and themeing it with a weird metaphor of "becoming the city and controlling its inhabitants" or something like that.

No cape name in mind, but her real name is going to be Hana. I had it in my head that her personality would seem neatly compartmentalized, except it turns out all the compartments are on fire.

EDIT: also I had a strange idea where Social - Best Friend was one of the obligations but that person was another PC for maximum hilarity/drama

So what you want to do is

A. Have the Doomed playbook, but have the backstory fluff of Legacy?

or

B. Have the Doomed playbook and use the backstory questions of Legacy

Don't mind A. B, while it sounds like an interesting idea, I'm going to not allow. Don't want to complicate things to much and I'm a firm follower of the K.I.S.S.(Keep It Simple, Stupid) method when it comes to PBP's.

I have mentioned I was interested in Protege but I think I'll actually go with Outsider. I had a concept before that I really liked but didn't get to flesh out much so I think I'll try my hand at that here. I'd like to use radical shapeshifting and a shifting look to basically have every at school wonder if my character is male or female because of how many times she'd swap between the two ^~^. And being an alien, she'd probably have some trouble understanding the human concept of gender anyway o~o. Especially since said concepts have been getting increasingly skewed in recent years.

Backstory
- When did you first learn of your doom? When my father told me of our legacy, and why we fight Mephistopheles.
- Where did you get your sanctuary? It has been shared by all generations of Faust. I merely inherited it.
- How is your nemesis tied into your doom? My great, great grandfather made a deal with him for power. This deal is passed on to the first-born child, which we must have to complete a portion of our part of the deal. We get our powers directly from him, but thanks to some poor contract interpretation skills, none of us can ever live full lives, or cancel the contracts. The deal itself was for just power in general, in exchange for his soul. Soul, by Mephistopheles' standards just means the deal is unending through the line until he feels like it's been long enough. Don't know why he felt like it was a good idea.
- Who, outside of the team, is crucial to facing your nemesis? Anyone who's willing to help me break the contract or kill Mephistopheles. But as for specific people, none come to mind. Really, anyone who can keep me from getting too much like him is good enough. Can't have myself becoming an easy target for his mind control.
- Why does the team matter to you? Having more people around means I may be able to defeat my nemesis. It's that simple. Plus, it's nice to have people around. Not that I like them or anything. But they do help keep me normal. Without them, I'd probably be...I don't know. Fine. They give me the ability to be a person who's not some monster or anything. I get to be good, and have people who motivate me to be more different from Mephistopheles. I don't particularly look forward to being under someone's control for eternity.
