Fallout: Brothers to the End

The year is 2296.

Following a successful campaign in The Commonwealth, the East Coast Brotherhood of Steel enters a golden age of growth. With their victory over the institute bringing in an influx of both technology and new recruits, The East Coast Brotherhood easily uses this momentum to grow and secure new bases, including Philadelphia and New York City. The Brotherhood has succeeded in clearing a swath the eastern states of monsters and mutants, and bringing a sense of safety to the eastern region. While crime and the typical troubles of the post-apocalypse still plague the denizens of the east coast, the settlers and survivors of the East Coast are content in that they are mostly safe from raiders and monsters, and join the Brotherhood in droves, young men and women eager to bring a sense of security to their little quasi-state.

Despite the influx of volunteers, the Brotherhood remains an exclusive and detached force. The Brotherhood makes no attempts to govern the safe haven they have carved out from themselves, instead, providing settlements with security and safety from raiders in return for tithes food, salvage and supplies from their fortresses in the major cities of the East. The Brotherhood, while more open than ever before to outsiders, remains very selective in their recruitment of soldiers, and only members of the brotherhood, or the particularly gifted are granted the full rights of the Brotherhood and the benefits that come with it, leaving the rest of its recruits as auxiliaries and support units. Still, with its massive stores of technology and resources, and the manpower of the populace, the Brotherhood has built themselves a military force to be reckoned with, and has even established manufacturing capabilities in key locations.

December of 2296, The East Coast Brotherhood has miraculously made contact with their long lost comrades of the Midwestern Brotherhood. The reunion is far from sweet however, and the Midwest Brotherhood's message is an urgent plea for help, under siege by mutants, raiders, monsters, and machines alike. The East Coast Brotherhood, while cautious at the sudden contact of their brother chapter, cannot just idly stand by and let them die, and one of the Brotherhood's newly built armadas are deployed to rescue their beleaguered allies, and bring order to the Midwest.

Hello everyone! Welcome to the interest check for "Fallout: Brothers to the End"! This particular RP will follows the adventures of a group of men and women from the newly built BoS Airship, the Durandal. I will be accepting up to four players, so this is not first come first served. This RP will combine military tactics and doctrine with the hazards of a post-apocalypse. We the players will play the role of the men and women of the Durandal, as they attempt to rescue their brother chapter from unknown enemies. Or story will be dramatic and tense as we attempt to prevail over insurmountable odds. Our characters will face daunting challenges, testing their wit and willpower, as well as their morals as they are pushed to their absolute limits.

I'd like to stress that I am not a master of fallout lore, and there are likely many areas in which you may or may not be more knowledgeable than myself. This particular RP takes on a fictional/non-canonical script in which the Brotherhood is successful in cleansing the Commonwealth of the Institute in Fallout 4 and proceeds to make a base for themselves on the East Coast.

Player Roles

I am a personal fan of smaller scale RPs, as such, I will only be accepting 4-5 other players to join me in this adventure. While you are free to make your character however you like, acceptance to this RP will be judged by me, and is not on a first come, first served basis. While not necessary, there are several roles I would like to see filled:
  • The Veteran - This player would play as a war scarred, veteran Man at Arms or Knight.
  • The FNG (The Fucking New Guy) - This player would either be a green as grass man-at-arms recently brought into the fold, or a rookie Knight eager to prove his worth.
  • The Scribe - This player due to his position will be privvy to plot relevant information before the other players. The squad's scribe will be more than just the squad's support unit, but also a driving force.

My concept (after realizing what Myke's pc will be) also fits into the 'scribe' category, but only loosely - I want to write up a scavenger/tinkerer/trapper, with little to no relation to high tech.

How similar is this to your idea?

Alright, so I put more though into it and my idea is pretty radical. I'm still cobbling it all together, but I'm thinking of an engineer-scout that's got some advanced, hand-made technology and gadgets. I'll pm details tomorrow, just posting this as a courtesy to Peaceless and Sep to make sure ideas don't conflict.

@Peaceless, I think that it's fine. I am not sure if the GM is going to be fine with it. I'd wait for them to say something before working on your character more.

@vietmyke Considering the size of the brotherhood as your describing it now, wouldn't it be more organized to have men-at-arms with ranks such as Corporal and Staff Sergeant? For delegation purposes and such, because it seems like the east coast brotherhood has grown into the thousands range so wouldn't it be more viable to add more delegation ranks to the MAA ranking system? I'm not criticizing or anything like that, I just thought it would make more sense.

@The Dow Dragon You are correct, but in this case, specialist is essentially a corporal, and a journeyman knight are essentially staff sergeants

Appearance:

Maximus is a relatively small man, with bronze skin and black hair. His body is almost entirely muscle and covered in scars.
Name: Steel, Maximus Ungula
Gender: Male
Age: 40
Rank: E-3 Sergeant
Specialization: Reconnaissance and Melee-Combat

Psychological Profile:
Medical Knight-Captain Wadsen, Psychological Profile for E-3 Reconnaissance Sergeant Maximus Ungula Steel

Here is the Profile you requested Paladin,

Sergeant Maximus is a curious case in his simplicity. Don't get me wrong, the man is neither stupid nor incompetent.
I actually believe he would be an excellent addition to the team you are putting together.
It is remarkable how much of his life is focused on combat. Almost all of his free time is spent either training his body or training the new recruits a thing or two about melee combat. He is actually on an extraordinary physical condition for a man of his age.
Maximus likes to follow orders more than giving them, that is also the reason why he denied every offer to actually leed a team on his own. He likes to be the second in command, the thorn in the side of his superior that pushes them to be even better.
In many ways Maximus is the perfect soldier, most of our new recruits should take his discipline as an example.

Now about the difficult part. You know about his past with Caesar's Legion, a horde of degenerates who are perverting history and trying to build a totalitarian empire. Although the Sergeant in my opinion cut all ties with that part of his former live he was still raised with their values. In the last years nothing came of that but I would advise you to always keep an eye on him.
I would highly recommend you to take Sergeant Maximus into your team and declare him fit for duty.

Ad Victoriam,
Medical Knight-Captain Wadsen

Background: In the Year 2256 a boy was born to the Painted Skins tribe in eastern New Mexico. The tribe was known for the tattoos they put on their flesh and their capable warriors. He grew up like most other tribal children for his first few years, wrestling, fishing and playing with the other children. All the children were taught the lore and stories of their tribe but this particular boy was never interested in any of it, he wanted to be a great warrior not a boring shaman like his father. The boy was not yet given a name, since the Painted Skins earned their names in a harsh initiation ritual by the age of 10. It would never came to that however.
By the age of 6 Caesar's legion came to the small, remote tribe and offered the leaders an ultimatum. Join the legion or get integrated by force. That day the Painted Skins ceased to be and the Legion got new legionnaires in the young boys and men as well as new slaves in the women. The young boy was trained to be a legionnaire, all he saw for till his early 20th was the Legion, worship of martial excellence and order. He proved himself to be a quite capable fighter, even though he was much smaller than most of the other recruits he fought against. But he also was known to be quite the troublemaker, he never did anything that would get him seriously punished, but he often did minor mischief that got him heavy beatings by his superiors and fellow recruits.
By the age of 16 the boy who till then was only called exactly that, "The Skins Boy", finally got a name. Although not a very nice one, when he became a recruit Legionary ready to be thrown to battle he was named Maximus "The largest" to mock the fact that he is quite small in stature. But young Maximus owned that name and wore it with pride.
When Maximus turned 21 everything changed however. The Battle of Hoover Dam happened. Maximus was one of the Legionaries who followed the NCR Rangers into Boulder City. When the Rangers blew the city up Maximus was thrown through the air like a tumbleweed. He suffered heavy bruises and severe head trauma. The biggest surprise however was when he woke up in a metal prison cell somewhere that he could only guess was underground. The young Legionnaire was stolen away by a brotherhood recon team before the rangers would give him his final bullet.
The brotherhood asked him every question that could possibly wield any tactical knowledge. Maximus on the other hand asked his brotherhood interrogators every question he could about the brotherhood since he never actually heard of them before. Most questions just got him a fist between the ribs, but some members of the brotherhood actually had pity with the young captive and answered honestly.
Perhaps it was mercy, perhaps it was something completely different but after two months the brotherhood let Maximus leave. They knocked him unconscious and left him at the gates of Vegas. But it was already done, Maximus had found a new purpose. After the defeat of the Legion he had a hole inside him, he was no loner and no leader. He always had been a warrior and a soldier. And the brotherhood was an army he could get behind.
He got himself a job as a caravan guard on the way into brotherhood territory and when he finally arrived he pleaded to join in. Also the Brotherhood was very sceptical at first of the young man, who not only came from the dreaded slave army but also seemed pretty much illiterate when it came to tech that was higher than a gun the could not deny that he was a better fighter, had more pain tolerance and was more disciplined than almost any of the other recruits. When asked what his last name was he simply answered Steel. They made him a man of arms.
Now Maximus is already a member of the brotherhood for about 18 years. He left one army of idealists to find another. He was promoted twice and now proudly calls himself E-3 Reconnaissance Sergeant.

Loadout:
✳ Ferrum: A Machete Gladius, the weapon he learned fighting with and still prefers for armed melee combat.
✳ Amicus: A Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle.
✳ Lux: A Modified small Laser-Rifle.
