I wasn't quite sure what the proper protocol was. So I produced a little bit of a background setting as well as some information that is available for all. I plan on using this setting for all my battles because well, I like a running story. On any accord, I've also put my character up and my initial post. Take your time, I'll be around and if you can get a post up before this evening I'll have some time this evening to respond.

A few issues outside of my control prevented me from getting here until now; I actually expected to have access to the site roughly four or five hours ago. I'll be taking a more thorough look over everything you've written as I get myself something to eat, and I'll likely put the character sheet up once I see if this new information merits adding any detail to my sheet; I would say expect it within a few hours, since I've got a couple of other matters to deal with.

I'll look into the protocol myself, since I'd like to avoid using the "Win/Lose/Draw" system entirely if I take part in any battles within this forum. On a side note; if someone else happens to take you up on this then don't wait up on me, since I've got a lot on my plate still and there's nothing to say I can't be a later opponent. My primary purpose for posting in that interest check was to see the ball start rolling.

That is no problem at all. I'm just working on some world building for the background that is moving along with this particular battle setting. I've been contemplating conducting a Nation-Rp as well. But I'm not entirely familiar with the inner workings of it so it is still in process. However, read up and get comfortable. If you can partake great, if not maybe someone else will be able to. Otherwise I'll just have to fight myself. On another note, don't worry about the poorly named list of terms. That is merely reading for your pleasure to further immerse you into the setting. But it really isn't pertinent to this particular battle.

I've got a question now; how vital is the "weight" category for you in a profile? I've recently made it a protocol of mine not to include it with my character sheets for my own project due to most of my characters being powerful enough for weight to have no relevance, and also because weight is not a static category and it can rapidly change (this is also why, if a setting provides a dating system or timeline, I prefer to list a character's birth date instead of their age; I do this in my own project). If weight is essential I can look something up. I also don't use the alignment system often, although a friend of mine has referred to me personally as "Chaotic Good" before.

Overall, I appreciate the work you're putting into the world building; I'm honestly a lover of the details and I like worlds to be as well-thought-out and in-depth as possible. I spend a lot of time making my main story project's setting and characters as detailed and fleshed out as I can, and even if I make a small project for a role-play outside of my setting I usually go to a lot of lengths to build the world; I actually had to pull out of the first role-play I signed up for on this site (I got my character sheet accepted) because I realized the role-play was aiming for far less depth than I'm able to enjoy; I don't really like simplicity. As for the nation role-play; there's some nation-based conflicts in my main story project, and I've run a "Tabletop" role-play in the past that was modelled after the classic RPG series called Suikoden if you've heard of that.

The character I put together was something I attempted to fit into this setting as much as possible, rather than make the character be from an outside world or something. I probably took a few liberties but that's what happens when you work with a foreign setting.

Edit: I've looked into how it works; you've set this thread to "Ranked", so it will use the "Win/Lose/Draw" records.

Well I looked into switching the ranking system which either started out of ranked and I didn't change it or I wasn't paying attention and I altered it by accident. However, it appears that the outcome would have to be manually entered. I would merely abscond from doing this until I figure out some way to get it fixed. Quite frankly, I don't care for the ranked system either. So I will look into either a) avoiding the ranking system or b) changing it to unranked.

On any accord, assuming the liberties you have taken are too outlandish I won't harp on it given that the information was not available when you through your character. Chaotic good really isn't too bad for an alignment it just means that the combines a good heart with a free spirit. As for weight, a typical man of 6' with an athletic build would come in around 180/190 lbs easy. You could extrapolate from that. But realistically, it is not all that pertinent. It is just to make sure that a 100lbs character is not running around with 50lbs worth of armor like speed racer. The same thing goes for age. You can use a date sure. But in essence it is just to ensure that a 10 year old isn't a master swordsman or a vice versa a 50 year old is keeping up in endurance with a 20 year old. These are just immersive things to ensure that people are ruining my immersion while playing is all. I don't want to waste time doing all this writing if people are just aiming to be ridiculous.

And finally, if you enjoy the details than read the glossary. I'm still working on it as I write this but its coming along. The problem tends to be that every time I write an entry I end up having to add an entry or two to explain a few terms that I've just brought into the folds that now require further explaining. But since I hope to eventually use this as potential for a Nation-RP, it should all be worth it.

That works; I'd prefer people be made aware (if the ranking status can't be changed) that it's not accurate/official here. If it can't be changed then perhaps you should make a point of that in the opening post here, since I won't be as willing to get involved if this ends up using that system.

While admittedly the existence of a genius/prodigy/etc (a not uncommon real life occurrence) could negate some of the comparison problems you listed between ages, I still agree with the basic principle that, in a generalized sense, people's proficiencies and stats should have some reflecting on their age. At the very least, even if a ten year old was a genius with a sword they would still be unable to overcome the difference in physical strength compared to an adult unless they relied on magic. As for the weight concept itself, this is why I made a point about how most of my characters (of which I won't be using here) are too powerful for weight to have practical relevance, but I did build this current character with your desire for a more realistic approach in mind, so barring magic I planned to avoid going outside of the bounds of physics. Actually, even in my own project the characters only ever go outside the bounds of physics because of magic, since that's (more or less) what magic is. Magic is just capable of doing a lot more complex or "broken" things in my setting compared to most.

Overall, I believe the liberties I took won't be a major problem, since they mostly involved introducing elements or concepts that I couldn't confirm existed in your setting, but if anything sounds troublesome you can let me know through this OOC. I should be able to post my character sheet up within this next hour, sooner than later if possible.

Also, I completely relate to the problem you just mentioned; the amount of information I currently have for my own setting would easily end up forming a thousand page or more wikia, and I'm still adding new entries and details each time I bring up a new concept or reveal a new idea to my friends and associates.

Fair enough, but feel free to post that character as soon as possible. I'm sure it is fine. I will double check before I turn in for the night but feel free to get that response post if you have the time as well. It shouldn't be too intimidating. A little bit rusty with the whole idea of combat these days. But I'll be waiting to see what you have to offer. I'm sure everything will be kosher, the acceptance process being a mere technicality.

Name: Abel Rosicrucian
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Class: Holy Knight
Occupation: Undead Hunter, Sword for Hire, Member of the Rosicrucian Priory
Alignment: Neutral Good (he is more naturally aligned to Chaotic Good, but his dedication to his order balances this)
Deity/Religion: N/A (the Rosicrucian Priory is a small and independent order not affiliated with any specific religion or deity; they believe in one transcendental 'God' which is intentionally unnamed and only given a few specifications, serving as the embodiment of their ideals and beliefs but otherwise remaining ambiguous to prevent clashes over dogma from getting in the way of their philosophy and righteous mission)

Appearance:
Height: 178cm / 5'10"
Weight: 69kg / 152lbs
Skin Colour: White
Eye Colour: Hazel
Hair Colour: Platinum Blonde

Equipment:
  • One-handed Sword - Shorter than a conventional two-handed longsword while also being longer than a one-handed shortsword, this trademark cruciform-shaped sword wielded by Abel is a fairly modest yet versatile weapon which has served him well on his travelling.
  • Sheath Shield - A personalized shield that was made on request by Abel during his start as a hunter of the forces of evil; custom designed to have a sheath for his trademark sword connected on the back. Though made with ease of use in mind when considering the weight, the iron exterior of the front is nevertheless quite durable.
  • Light Gear - He wears fairly lightweight gear underneath his garb; never having received conventional knight armour or anything similar, and personally preferring speed and healing/support magic over brute physical defensive force.
  • Evelyn's Pendant - An amulet passed down through generations by the family of Abel's fiancé. It is said to have been blessed and grants its holder a powerful resistance to magical curses. When Abel went off on his pilgrimage with his mentor his fiancé left it in his care as a good luck charm, citing how he could use all the fortune he could get.

Spells:
  • Fortify Endurance - Abel's primary magic spell, and the one he has spent the most time investing in. Preferring to use lightweight gear in order to allow him swift movement in battle against the dark forces resulted in his physical defence being weaker than a traditional warrior, so he frequently casts this spell in order to even the playing field. He wanted to learn a more elaborate form of magic that would allow him to cast magic barriers, but he has yet to find a tome on the matter or receive proper tutelage on it.
  • Fortify Speed - A spell that Abel uses when facing against inhuman foes in order to keep up with their potentially superhuman speed. He is still learning this spell just like all of his other magic, so he is not able to push it to an extreme.
  • Fortify Fatigue - While his resolve is beyond that of a person of weak personal principles, he is well aware that humans suffer from fatigue and their body can surrender long before their mind will. In order to compensate for this, he has taught himself this spell in order to boost his stamina in times of dire need.
  • Heal Minor Wounds - In order to remove an over reliance on healing potions, during the early part of his tutelage in the basics of magic he chose to teach himself the art of healing magic. Since he was never given a chance to complete his formal study, he is currently limited to healing minor wounds; mostly injuries that would not be absolutely fatal.
  • Turn Undead - Though unlikely to serve any use against a human opponent, Abel has become proficient at the use of basic holy magic due to his work as a hunter of unholy forces. While his potential in the arts was noted to be extraordinary, he has never received sufficient training due to having to leave before his tutelage could really begin. Nevertheless, while he has yet to learn how to banish and destroy evil or unholy enemies through magic he is capable of using this spell to demoralize the will of the undead and negate their bloodlust.

Items:
  • Holy Water Vials - Since he has yet to learn higher level holy magic, Abel often uses vials of this nature in order to bless his sword; dripping the liquid onto the blade in order to allow it to set the forces of evil ablaze and purge them.
  • Magic Potions - Carried with him at all times when he has the opportunity to afford them; he uses these potions to replenish mana.

History (Synopsis): Left at a monastery as a child, Abel was adopted into their fold and learned under the wings of the order's grand master. The Rosicrucian Priory specialized in protecting humanity from the forces of evil, an art which he soon became well-versed in. Eventually Abel fell in love with a young woman from a nearby town named Evelyn, who would soon become his fiancé. During his final pilgrimage accompanying his adopted father before the soon coming fulfilment of his promised marriage, his mentor was killed by a tragic incident involving the agents of the darkness, leaving him stranded in a foreign land with no money and no way easy way to get home. His thoughts remain only of returning to his beloved and informing the order of his master's demise. In order to achieve this, he uses his skills to hunt the undead anywhere that their appearance troubles others, effectively becoming something of a mercenary who specializes in facing against evil. He is considered powerful even among the young knights of his order due to his talent for the magical arts derived from his master's tutelage.

Other: Abel actually has very little experience fighting to the death against his fellow man; his work has primarily revolved around hunting unholy forces, particularly the undead. While he has served as a bodyguard a few times for travelling merchants or the like, he has never actually killed a man before and usually uses his fighting prowess to force a surrender. He is not entirely without knowledge of how to kill nor is he at all inept in combat, but he has never killed a human personally and would rather avoid it. Nevertheless, he is a fearless and adaptive combatant who is capable of an unorthodox and exotic style of fighting, also holding wisdom beyond his years and exceptional resilience.

Looks interesting enough to me and suitable. The spells are okay assuming they can't be instant-cast. So why don't you go ahead and post it up in the character section. And go ahead and get a post going if you'd like. I should be able to respond tomorrow if you get one up.

@Vordak

If you'd like to take a shot as well sure, educate yourself on the information I've provided and drop a character sheet down as well. I think I can find a managable to accomodate both of you at the same time.

Let me know guys. I'll check in when I get up.

I didn't have a specific idea in mind for how quickly his casting worked, but given the setting it wouldn't be instantaneous. Virtually everything I picked for this character revolved around you mentioning that you wanted things to be a bit more grounded.

Alright, I've posted the profile into the tab. I'll see if I can get up an IC post while I'm multitasking.

My only real concern now is the whole "Ranked" problem. Perhaps if you're unable to edit it then a mod can.

I still need to re-familiarize myself with the dice you're using too.

On a side note; that more powerful character I mentioned I had in mind in the interest check thread was actually worked into my character's backstory (though wasn't actually named there and only got hinted at), but they don't ever need to make any sort of appearance unless it becomes interesting for them to do so. I've already worked out a few NPCs or other potential characters tied to this character I presented, but none of them need to appear unless desired; it's just in my nature to be in-depth and as soon as I make a character I find myself building a lot of other characters and concepts around them. I also have a tendency to make characters that could migrate over into other role-plays I create (or get involved in) of a similar setting, rather than build them exclusively around the GM's world, so the decision to make Abel come from a foreign land was logical. I could very easily have used the other character sheet I got accepted on this site, but since that character was a lot more powerful/proficient in their art I refrained.

I've posted in the IC now. I took a few factors involving your dice rolls, together with details about the nature of my character, all into account when determining how I'd react to your post, but if there's any sort of issue feel free to let me know. When I currently write drafts for my story, it's conventional for me to not actually include a space between paragraphs due to them not being present in the most recent light novel series I've been reading, but my fiancé felt it looked better on this site with the space included (hence the edit both here and in the IC post). I also used a few punctuation tools that I've never used on a role-playing forum before, since it's very uncommon to me, so I might be slightly inconsistent thanks to that.

Also, I took the liberty of editing my profile (both in the OOC and the Characters tab) with a few extra details based around some of the categories listed in your own profile that mine was lacking, in order to create more consistency between us. I'd already decided these details out beforehand, but didn't post them up since I decided to post the profile quickly before you had to sleep. If there's any issues with the new information, let me now.

I'm mostly here for a bit of casual exercise, since it's been well over five years since I role-played outside of IM with my fiancé and a couple of friends. I just want to make sure that this won't reflect the rankings before I commit to it fully, since I have no real interest in that sort of thing. I don't even play in the ranked matches of fighting games despite being a much higher level player than the majority who do; it's just a personal preference of mine.

I'll look into asking the moderator about altering the ranking system. I must have not been paying attention if the ranking switch had been toggled. On any accord, the post looks commendable. The only thing I would have liked to see is some sort of action that signified the spell was being "charged." While it is possible for many spellcasters to rise to a level where the somantic and the verbal cues for spell casting become left by the wayside, there was noting in your sheet to note that holds these skills. This may because I'm more accustom table-top role playing games which happen to have both the aforementioned precursors. But that's okay. This particular bit of advice was more for future reference to potential alter your descriptive style while you write.

@Vordak

That's good information to have if it is true. On any accord, while you lurk if you would like to fight let me know. The setting would use the same background information as is available here. The actual setting would be slightly different and the character could be different as well. All is open. Just keep an eye out.

I appreciate the compliment, and he hasn't actually started the casting yet; my post more or less suggested he's waiting to confirm you'll remain hostile before he does so (in other words, your next post will determine it). Until he knows for certain that conflict is most likely inevitable, he won't waste any of his mana reserves on a spell needlessly.

Not that I am entirely fond of the post per se but it is what it is. Combat will ensure in the next post for sure.

No need to apologize; I understand that life happens, and I had a few things to work on while I waited.

Before I post, I would like to ask for a little collaborative input. Given that you're rolling dice in order to determine the success of a lot of actions based on stats (of which my character has no D&D sheet to compare to yours with), while I prefer to let the characters themselves be the determining factor, how would you say the attempt at intimidation (from a dice/stats perspective) would be compromised by the inherent fearlessness and resolve of Abel? I'd like to hear your input on this before I make a realistic assessment of his reaction using my free-form means. I don't know if these characteristics of his are factored into the dice mechanics.

I'll start working on my post in the background while I wait for your response. If you're unable to get back to me before I need to sleep, I'll post my reply and any problems with it can be discussed after I've rested.
