A city like any other.
With people like any other.
This is Yuzoraku City, located on the coast of Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Alive and bustling, the residents who live here do not have any special quirks--they are people, and nothing more.

Or, well, that's how it would seem to be.

Centuries prior, back before the rise of industry or of technology, those beings known as 'youkai' lived among the people. Their home, a world parallel to our own, was connected to this one. Travel was common, and familiarity was commonplace--though most relationships were business-related, if at all, the two worlds acted as if they were two sides of the same coin: separate, but unseparable.

This coexistence broke, however, upon the rise of technology. While many humans embraced that which gave them strength, the youkai were divided in their opinion. Should they remain among these humans, whose unpredictability knew no bounds? Or cut themselves off from their counterpart, forever remaining within their own world?

Unable to come to a unanimous conclusion, the youkai split and fractured--those who wished for the former hid themselves within society, masking their true nature and integrating themselves into that which would become familiar, while the rest remained within their world and lived on there, sealed away under barrier after barrier.

This incident was, ironically enough, what spared 'this' world from the calamity that befell the youkai soon after. A mysterious illness soon swept through 'that' world, corrupting its inhabitants, regardless of if they were human, youkai, or otherwise.

Luckily, with the only way to break the seal being on 'this' side, that illness never crossed over to affect the residents 'here', who remained none the wiser.

The seal within Yuzoraku City, however, is fraying, and most of the residents are none the wiser. With this past having been long since lost to the world and those from the 'other' side slowly finding their way into this world, it is only a matter of time before all hell breaks loose.

Unless it can be stopped, that is.

So... This is an RP inspired by a variety things, but takes particular influence from the Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha games, Bloodborne, Persona 3/4, and Monster Hunter. In essence, the players will be taking up 'missions' to accomplish within this "other world", which itself mimics the city that they live in. All of the player characters within the scope of the RP should be relatively low power at the start, but should gain more strength as the story progresses. More information will be revealed as more problems are handled, but otherwise characters shouldn't know much about the situation at all. Since things are mission based, though I'm gonna be tossing around control of sections at I see fit and will be taking suggestions for future incidents.

  • Name: Tanikawa Ayumi
  • Age: 14
  • Race: Hanyou(Raijuu)
  • Appearance: "Scatter to the edge of the storm." She's a bit on the short side for her age.
  • Abilities: Ayumi is largely unaware of her capabilities as a hanyou. From her perspective, she produces an odd amount of static, especially when agitated. What she is unaware of is an enhanced level of durability and healing, as well as greatly increased speed and mildly increased strength. She can also channel and produce electricity, and she is unharmed by it no matter how powerful the shock. With proper application, her ability to manipulate electricity could result in a great deal of possibilities. Ayumi has also been trained in her family's swordplay by her father. Finally she can kick pretty hard.
  • Equipment: Ayumi carries mostly what anyone could expect from a schoolgirl. However, as a weapon, she utilizes an heirloom of her family on her mother's side, a katana known as Raigekimaru. A yokai-forged katana, Raigekimaru is nearly unbreakable and has an extremely sharp cutting edge. However, the main feature it has is its ability to tap into Ayumi's electrical abilities, channeling electricity up through its blade and empowering it.
  • Personality: Ayumi is a highly competitive, energetic girl. Her personality is an aggressive go-getting one, and she is liable to challenge others for relatively frivolous reasons due to her extremely competitive nature. However, she can also be relatively laid-back and friendly towards others and has no issue making friends, even if she can sometimes grow rather annoyed with others for things she sees as foolish or stupid. Ayumi has a strong and enthusiastic sense of justice and a no-nonsense approach towards people she perceives as behaving badly. Unfortunately, this also results in a deeply individualistic mindset: She thinks that she shouldn't get others involved in her problems even if they want to help. She's intensely stubborn about this. In fact, Ayumi's stubbornness is such that she refuses to relent on just about any matter. This contributes to a variety of things, such as how willing she is to challenge others, or how she won't give up in a serious fight no matter how hopeless it might seem. In spite of her stubborn and somewhat tomboyish nature, Ayumi is pretty easily flustered. Also in spite of this nature, Ayumi is fond of decorating her bag and her cell phone in various cute accessories.
  • History: Ayumi, from a young age, was trained by her father in the Tanikawa family's swordplay, known as the Seven Lightning Strikes style. This is something she took pride in, and being trained in such a manner fueled her combative and competitive streak. Throughout her childhood, she has time and time again taken on bullies and stubbornly refused to back down no matter what the situation, even if it seemed a bit foolish to act in such a way. She has also made a habit of challenging others, especially when it comes to kendo. Indeed, Ayumi is fantastic at kendo. However, she has noticed, more and more, that she has been causing static shocks with increasing frequency, especially when annoyed.
  • Other: N/A

@Kidd: Let's see...

Well, I actually kinda wanna say that given the story of the bakeneko in general, electricity shouldn't be a focus (if at all). The raijuu hanyou presented here now makes more sense in context of abilities, so I think electricity should be changed to something more... I dunno, in-line with what a bakeneko would be able to do? The shapeshifting is good, though, so more focus should be placed on that, I think.

@VitaVitaAR: Seems okay to me. Accepted.

Speaking of forms...

Edit: The answer to that question is yes.
