Alright, ladies and gentlemen of the Arena, this here is an Arena Chat thread. It's basically just going to be a place where we can talk about things concerning the Arena.

Such things can be changes we want to make, things we want to see added in, or events and such returned.

For one, I'm interested in the talks they are having about adding in a dice system being added in. I would also like to see Gun Fight For No Reason, that was always a fun event to host or participate in.

Obviously a lot of people want a multiverse thing that doesn't die off so that's a good place to start pondering. A fun thing we could do is a team based thing where everyone can fight for a team to see what team gets the most points, although it never ends or has some insane end goal so we don't hit it too fast and than have nothing to do (or just have a sequel to reset things back to square one). The battles don't have to lock you into a certain place forever and lose interest, so you can join a bunch of battles as much as you'd like in the name of your team. They could be random battles, just agreed beforehand to be a part of this scoring system to keep rivalries going. You could also apply to fight for any team for that battle, not stuck with a single team, although it would make sense if you fought for a certain team only with certain characters. There would be a continuity but could be all over the place in terms of timeline so some battles could be fought between cavemen vs. dinosaurs while others would be modern, for example. This is also an excuse where you can use the same character in multiple battles at once because they don't have to be taking place at the same exact time, so they can logically be all healed up and everything.

On an unrelated note, I haven't done a battle with dice before but I suppose it could be fun.

Dice involved battles can be fun, if not a bit lacking in creative. For instance, you may see aviable dodge but a dice roll could dictate you have to take a hit.

A former Mod on Guild made one, that involved hit points, where dice rolls dictated of you got hit and how much NO you lost - as well as how much you had and how hard you hit anyway. I tested it out with him. #OldGuild.

A PW/MV would be nice as well, provided it was done right. One I participated in on MYB before coming to Guild was more a gathering of different threads/people in a loose storyline compared to having an overall one. We simply made and built characters. In the arena, it would have to be different obviously, with the fighting being more centric.

It really depends on the system and players, I guess.

Same with leaving it to chance that the other person will take the hit. One is more creative and leaves more room, but often doesn't see the end to fights, while the other would see a definite end - and allow for done creative once actions are determined.

One battle to test the dice rolling wouldn't hurt.

Eh, maybe do all the roll until the fight is finished before moving on to 'writing' the fight itself?

That could work, but would anyone want go though with the fight after they know they'll lose - as opposed to rolling and writing?

I assume "available dodge" would be like if you think it would hit 70% of the time then you'd roll a 10 sided dice and 7 out of 10 numbers results in a hit, one of them like a lucky strike. That seems like a perfectly reasonable way to fight as long as you guys can figure out why exactly it would have such a hit percentage, which could get complicated.

I'd fight battles knowing I'd lose if they are interesting.

It feels a lot better than the rage of having "it shouldn't happen but it happened," and "it should happen, but it doesn't."

Pretty much, what or who decides the hit chance and dodge chance? If it's just 'contest roll, see who got higher' ....

Actually this could very well be the place for it.

I would be down, but I lack a computer at the moment and refuse to use this piece of shit phone for anything time intensive. xD.

This topic is a good idea. It's hard for subcommunities like Arena and Tabletop to emerge when there's no "Arena Discussion" or "Tabletop Discussion" subforums. Should I create such a subforum in Arena to at least get the ball rolling?

The Guild's Arena forum has always left much to be desired. Over the years, Rilla and other people have tried to come up with interesting ideas like "Arena Tournaments" and such. But they never received much help from the Guild as a platform. I would love to improve things around here.

Another idea that's come up before is to allow Arena GMs to mark their roleplays as "Ranked" or something. As in, the outcome of the fight actually goes on your character's record and you can browse a list of a character's Arena fights. Of course, one of the traits of a good Arena fighter is that they know when it's fair to lose a fight instead of constantly coming with "yet another card up their sleeve", you know?

Another idea, once we gradually improve the Arena subcommunity, is to have official "Arena Grandmaster Tournaments" up there next to the Guild's "Official Contents" system.

You can sticky this. If in the future we nerd a whole subforum, I'll let you know. Unless the rest of the lot here say otherwise.

The ranking is a good idea. Hall of Records is similar, though encompasses all fights instead of just from a single site.

Would the tournaments be mod sponsored? Or just get some type of recognition at the top of the site?

We do pretty good in here in terms of not constantly asspulling/batmanning things, but that's thanks to character sheets and us getting along so well.

In the first post of the arena discussion it would be nice if it said all of the different types of fights that one can expect and the general guidelines for them such as tier lists and what you do in every post for attacking, defending, etc. It could mention normal fights, which are unranked, ranked fights, tournaments, and other fight types that we wish to do such as dice rolling. We could have a link to another topic to keep track of the ranked fights character sheets, meeting up, locations to fight, etc. I don't think you should have a limit to the number of characters you can submit to ranked fights, it's just that if you use a lot then you couldn't build up all of their records as well. A link to all of the ranked battles that have taken place could also be in that thread both for fun and for examples of what to do (or maybe even what not to do sometimes). Actually, it could be funny if we do a mock battle to show how not to fight and it could be funny yet informative. For example, one of us could be a super cocky guy who keeps messing up and the other guy teaches him why that was horrible. The battle could be linked in that thread as a general combat tutorial. It could be a good way too teach interruptions by having the horrible guy say he starts a series of spinning swing attacks, only to have the other counter him easily and ruin the rest of his attack.

It would also be nice to get a multiverse thing going again somehow.

Maybe we could do a just for funsies tournament to start things off to get more interest now, having it not as stern but trying to teach them a thing or two until they get more practice for the real deal. It won't count against our permanent records or anything because they might accidentally do some unfair stuff, it will just be for future reference what to do, sort of like that mock battle mentioned earlier but they participate for more hands on stuff.

EDIT: Oh, and this is mostly kidding but with a grain of truth. Everyone should have a Character-A-Day so that everyone will have at least 100 characters in 100 days so that we could have a war take place with 1,000s of characters! Mwahahahaha! The battle would last for years to come. Actually, a neverending battle may be kind of cool. We don't have to have 1,000s at once, but a steady stream keep showing up to continue the fight. We keep records of which characters last the longest. Hmm...or a smaller scale where it could just be a tag team so the battle lasts when around 5 or so characters are defeated on one team.
