Four centuries of life was a lonesome thing indeed. Many spoke of immortality being a gift, but was it truly? Living through so many wars and meeting so many people just to see them die, Tera was probably jaded to everything. She'd come a long way since her humble upbringing as a citizen of the British Empire. It was harder to remember now, but her real father was a carpenter while her mother sold things at the market place. It was a good life. A simple one. She loved the vampire that turned her when she turned 26, but she despised him now.

The woman's way of life was never constant. One of the downsides of being immortal was that one never aged while their friends did. At most, Tera stayed in a position for a decade - maybe a bit more - before finding something else to do. The casual excuses of cosmetics, eating well, sleeping well, and living a stress free life could only work for so long. Someone asked if she did surgery. She remembered replying with a firm no. Little did the human know they were one question away from a big slap to the face. Probably would've snapped their poor neck.

Tonight, however, Tera threw her worry to the wind. She was at the Evening Solace - a rather posh club off the coast of Santa Monica. She worked nearby, UCLA to be exact. Normally, a tenured research faculty member could hardly afford coming to venues like this or owning a home in a primer, secluded by wood part of Beverly Hills. It was thanks to her accumulating wealth from her company - a computer software company - that allowed her to live such a carefree life. Though she didn't have to, she donated generously to charities. It was odd however. By rights, humans were her prey. Her food. However, her bloodied years had passed her long ago. Now? She just wanted to be alone and enjoy the countless years she had left.

Hearing footsteps and smelling a scent she had become all too familiar with, Tera slowly turned to her college - Dennis Frey. "Punctual as always," she said with a smile as she gestured to a seat. "I thought we'd relax tonight. After what happened this week in the lab, I think we deserve a rest, no?"

Dennis nodded as he ordered a bloody mary. The very name made Tera's canines elongate ever so slightly before she bid them abstain. "Thanks to you, we still have our data. I wasn't aware you knew how to manipulate those god forsaken machines!"

Tera laughed in her high alto voice as she tipped her Smirnoff to the man. "My hobbies - as many say - are quite peculiar."

Dennis nodded. "I've only heard stuck up men speak like you have. Tonal wise."

Taking a sip of her drink, Tera grinned. "A matter we've discussed at length," she said. "There's charm in the old mannerisms of speech, no? Ah, the rest of our guests are here."

Several of their work colleagues waved to the two, as Tera waved back. She was dressed elegantly as always. Se wore a white blouse with a matching black cuffed blazer and black jeans. She wore black knee high boots as well. Darker colors were her preferred. Color was spectacular, but only for certain occasions. As Tera exchanged greetings with the others, a scent - another one all too familiar to her - demanded her attention.

"If you all will excuse me for a moment?" she asked before getting to her feet.

The smell was that of her own kind. A vampire. A child of the night. Ever since the coven wars from 2 centuries back, Tera seldom mingled with her own kind. It was lonely, but she didn't want to deal with the territory wars or the conflicts. It was exciting once, but as she grew older, the whole affair was silly and stupid.

Her eyes fixed on a gorgeous woman as she subconsciously thought of her own appearance. Her brownish-blonde hair was tied into a neat, impeccable bun while her eye liner and eye shadow accentuated her violet eyes. Her clothes hugged her form in a appealing yet quite conservative manner. She was hardly the 'put out' type of woman.

Clearing her throat, she gestured to the seat. "Is that taken?" she asked. She studied the woman's face before a slight bit of recognition came to her. "Are you not the reporter from the News Channel? I certainly had my doubts concerning your origin. Now? There's no questioning it."

Taking the seat, Tera stared at the woman. "Are you with coven or are you alone? I've avoided those fools for the past century," she said so only the two women could hear. "If you're attached, I ask you not reveal my presence. Things would get ... problematic."

Eternal life, to live forever young and beautiful it is a vain persons dream come true, something that poets write about, and myths like the Holy Grail and the fountain of youth centered around. It is rather funny how there were never stories about the heartache and horrors that came with this way of life. Four centuries ago Charlotte had been one of those vain few that dreamed of such things. At the time she was the youngest child of an upper class Italian family. Her father a rather well off doctor that flourished during the Renaissance and her mother was an artist. When offered to join a coven and live forever, she foolishly jumped at the chance, something she regretted deeply now. Over the years she came to find that being immortal was more of a curse than a blessing.

Charlotte had to watch many of her friends and people she loved die of old age or disease, while she stayed the same. Even after years of death it was not something she was used to, it pained her greatly. Until she stopped letting herself get close to humans, once she started to care for someone enough to call them a real friend or someone started questioning her age she would simply leave. Whenever someone reported her missing, Charlotte would simply lay low for a while. Once they stopped looking she would restart her life. Right now she worked as a reporter for KTLA as a field reporter, she mostly covered special events between Los Angeles and the southern part of the state. It was actually rather exciting.

Tonight however, was her day off. Despite her want to just sit in her studio apartment and just relax. Charlotte ended up going to a club she visited often, the Evening Solace to get away from the annoying neighbor below whom was certain Charlotte was going to be his next "score" as he put it. The poor human simply was unable to understand he wasn't her type, and it was all she could do not to simply rid herself of him.

As she followed a rather large group of humans into the club, she of course noticed the strong sent that belonged to another of her kind. Her eyes looked at the beautiful blonde talking to one of the men at the bar. There no doubt that she was a vampire much like her. Even though most humans never seemed to notice the difference, the woman was simply to pretty and flawless not to be one with the night.

For a moment she thought about making sure she was seen simply out of old habits. Though of the counter of her eye she saw one of her co-workers waving her over, and choose to sidestep the awkwardness, ignore the woman, and join her friend. It had been years since she had seen one of her own kind, and even then she chose to avoid them, it seemed slightly safer that way.

"Charlotte! I thought you were too busy to enjoy your day off with us, you just missed Scarlett." The red haired woman, Lacy, said as she stood a hugged Charlotte tightly. Charlotte couldn't help but tense up a bit at the exchange, her canines grow as the woman's neck rested under her chain. Just because blood was her food source, did not mean she tried to refrain of losing control of herself, though it wasn't the easiest for her.

"I decided that this sounded more fun. Though I believe I may be overdressed." She said laughing softly as she pushed Lacy away by the shoulders and looked down at her. Charlotte wore a long powder blue dress that went past her knees, the sleeves of the dress were long and went to her elbows. Her shoes matched the powder blue of the dress and were wedges. Though she was able to walk in higher heels they were for special occasions.

Lacey laughed lightly shaking her head. "Well it isn't my fault that you're more uptight than me .I'll go get drinks, what do you want?" She answered making Charlotte frown slightly, it wasn't that she more uptight then her friend, she simply wasn't as easy as women were those days.

"I'll take a rum and coke." Charlotte answered taking a seat as Lacy left.

It wasn't long before someone else came to the table, sighing she looked over towards the voice, fully planning to tell them to piss off. Though seeing the other vampire she stopped herself, she gave an uneasy smile looking the woman over before shaking her head. “Not at the moment, please sit.” She said her voice rather soft and feminine. She couldn’t help but laugh as the woman recognized her. “I am one of them yes, Charlotte.” She answered as she watched the other woman sit down. Charlotte’s long pitch black hair was left down, and went down to the small of her back. Her dress was a little tight on the top half in order to show off her form, but was lose towards the bottom. The woman across from her looked much more sophisticated, but sadly she didn’t recognize her at all. “I do apologize, but I do not believe I know you from anywhere.” She added after a moment.

At the mention of being in a coven her blue eyes narrowed slightly, the topic of such was a rather sore spot for. She had been in the coven wars that took place two centuries ago, or at least she was in the start of it. Charlotte was still young at the time, told it was for a good reason and stupid enough to believe it. However, when she realized that it was not only her kind that got hurt, but the humans that unknowingly got in the way as well, she fled and changed her last name. It was one of the reasons she usually avoid her kind.

Although it seemed she wasn’t the only one as the other women went on to ask not to be known about. “No, I am in a coven, I left during the wars and have been alone since.” She answered actually smiling now a bit relived that was not the reason she was asking. “In fact that is the reason I actively tried to avoid you myself.” She said lowly as the other had. Despite the fact that it was a bit awkward, the idea of talking to another of her kind was nice.

“It is quite a shame you have guests to attend to, it has been a while since talking to someone actually mature.” She said laughing a bit as one of the servers brought her the drink Lacey was supposed to get as well as the tab for both of the drinks. Frowning a bit, she looked around to find she had skipped out on the checked and left. “Or anyone responsible for that matter.” She added in a bit of a gamble before taking a drink.
