ASTRID

The hall was abuzz with chatter, friends who hadn’t re-joined one another on the train now flowing in conversation. Voices shouted from one house table to another, although the table swathed in green and silver remained within their own company. One such girl who was laughing and talking was Astrid Turpin, second born child to Auror Gregor Turpin and his wife, healer Cassia Turpin. Her older brother Erik had left school before summer and was now in training with the Falmouth Falcons, the most violent team known to Quidditch. Her brother held the Hogwarts record for most broken bones, being one of the most infamously powerful beaters the school had ever seen. Erik had been somewhat of a living legend among the halls, and had been incredibly popular amongst boys and girls alike. He had also been one of the toughest students, her and had such an influence on her school career that every boy took their safety in their hands if they dated her. At the time it had been horrific and she had to keep her relationships quiet, Erik always had an eye and ear out for his popular younger sister.

But now she was here without him, about to watch her younger brother Jory be housed. She was also free to talk and flirt without the warning eye of Erik, her final year would finally be her year. And so she laughed and she talked, exchanging flirty little stares with the odd guy or two. She sat amongst her usual group of friends, Lily, Marlene, Karen and Flora. The five of them had been incredibly close since they first met all those years ago. Lily was her closest friend, although the pair was vastly different at times. Lily now sported a shiny badge reading Head girl, and already it was causing her to be a damned sight more serious. Having just returned from escorting the students in, she pushed her red hair back from her shoulders, the scent of cold entwined with the heavy tresses. “There’s a transfer” She told Astrid, who was now staring at her plate with a desperate hunger.

“Oh really, didn’t know they do that” Astrid replied, pushing back her hair. It seemed to have grown even more over the summer, the wavy locks now reaching her waist and no short of fullness.

“Yeah, she is from France” Lily replied, her eyes catching James as she sat down and blushing a little. Astrid watched her and smirked as she looked over to James, who sat across the bench and a little to the side of them. And as she looked to James she caught the stare of Sirius, who offered her one of his most devastatingly charming smiles. In return he gained a rather dry look, but it ended with the smallest of smiles as Lily continued to talk in her ear, though she didn’t really listen any more as McGonagall came out onto the stage, a grim faced Filch placing the stool and the tatty sorting hat onto the platform.

As the doors opened and the shaking first years poured in, Astrid straightened up and looked over to the gaggle, her eyes quickly picking up her blonde haired brother. She beamed with pride, as her friends turned around and all cooed at how cute he was. “Oh I hope he gets Gryffindor” Astrid said as she watched them group together, McGonagall going through the usual spiel about the process, Astrid indulging in conversation with Flora, ignoring the warning stares she was getting from Lily.

When it came to her brother’s name, Astrid straightened up a little and at last paid attention. The hat was barely on his mop of curly hair before the seam of the hat split and roared out “Gryffindor!” Astrid was amongst the loudest as she cheered and applauded, offering her little brother a beaming smile as he rushed back along the bench to sit with the other first years, offering an eager wave to Astrid. Once he was seated her attention was once more slack as she went back into conversation mode, looking up every now and then, and trying to ignore the growl of her stomach.

REMUS

His scarred hands were on the table as he listened to Sirius talk. He had fled to the Potter’s before summer, and had now been unofficially adopted. It wasn’t surprising really; James and Sirius were as thick as thieves, almost impenetrable at times. Remus never found himself left out though, and he also had always been welcomed by the Potters. In fact, he has spent a week and a half there with the whole group this summer. But he had had to leave a little earlier than planned, losing himself in having fun with his closest friends meant he hadn’t been keeping as close an eye on the moon as he should have. It had slipped up on him and if it had not been for Sirius and James, who knew what would have happened! He still could not thank them all enough for what they did and what they continued to do for him, and never would he ever stop being so grateful to all of them.

But that did not stop him from feeling horrendously guilty, the fact that he had attacked Sirius, or that he had left his mate with a scar of his own now. But every time Remus brought it up he was quickly told to forget about it, followed by banter that only Sirius could provide.

As James came back through after performing his head boy duties, he shook out his scruffy hair and smiled over to Lily. “Never gonna give up, are you?” Mocked Remus towards James, the latter having been nursing a crush on the girl since their first year.

“He who waits, Moony” James replied with a shove of the elbow. Across from them sat the other half of their group, Peter and Sirius. The former was as ever a little unbelieving of who he was friends with, the second sat with such enviable ease and confidence he had girls the room over all a flutter.

“Wish they’d hurry up with the sorting, I’m starved!” Stated Remus as he looked to McGonagall come into the room and go through the same old routine.

The students were called forth and the hat placed atop their heads, and he applauded with the rest as they joined Gryffindor, a little extra cheer as Astrid’s brother joined them. And then once the first years were sorted, the Transfiguration professor made another announcement. It was only then that Remus had noticed the girl sat to the side of the first years, who was yet to wear her house colours. Whose dark eyes nervously cast about from the most perfectly exquisite face. “Who’s that?” He asked to James.

“French transfer apparently” James replied.

Remus nodded in reply, watching as she was presented to the school, and his shoulders immediately dropped as a few wolf whistles sounded. Remus was poor, he was scruffy and he was a werewolf, on the list of catches for this new school beauty, he was at the very bottom. But he watched as she was sorted into Gryffindor, and he applauded with the rest. Lily got up from her seat to meet with the girl and bring her back, and Remus only half followed her as he felt the heat rise up the back of his neck. As a form of distraction, he turned and watched Dumbledore as he stood to make his annual speech.

Veronica

Sitting near the first years; Veronica took a slightly nervous and shaky breath. Being a transfer from Beauxbatons Academy, she was about to be sorted into a house at Hogwarts. She was slightly nervous, as she would be joining everyone who had been here for years before her. She wondered just how easily she would fit in, when everyone was already surrounded by a group of friends they had for years. She lightly clapped, as the first years mostly got sorted out into Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, the occasional one being put into Slytherin.

Professor McGonagall finally called her up. With a slightly shaky breath, Veronica made her way over to the platform sitting down on the chair. Her chocolate brown eyes filled with slight nervousness as she bit her lower lip. Her brown curls perfectly resting over her shoulders and she felt the Transfiguration teacher place the sorting hat ontop of her head.
“Ahh…” The sorting hat called out, once sitting upon her head, as if surprised by the new and foreign arrival “A french beauty huh?.Mhhh….shy, loyal…smart….” the hat began to mutter about the new student, like it usually did about some. There were a few moments of silence, in anticipation before calling out “Gryffindor!”

As the Gryffindor table cheered and clapped, at the new arrival including the Transfer. Veronica sighed in relief and smiled softly as she hopped off of the table. She started to make her way towards her house table; when she saw Lily approaching her.
“Hi, I am Lily.” The muggle born, girl extended her hand out towards the French Transfer, with a warm and welcoming smile. “Welcome to Gryffindor.”

Veronica smiled warmly at the girl that greeted her with a warm and enthusiastic welcome. “I am Veronica, pleasure to meet you Lily.” shaking her hand softly, she smiled giving Lily a soft nod. Her voice was soft, and her English was very fluent. Her French accent was noticeable though, despite her half British, half French nationality. As they walked to the table; her eyes landed on Remus. The scruffy dirty blonde hair and brown eyes, caught her attention. Veronica smiled over at the cute 7th year, biting her lip slightly nervously for a few moments. But averted her eyes slightly, as she didn’t want to come off like she was staring at him. Lily noticed the glance towards Remus, from Veronica which caused her to smile lightly.

When the two girls reached the table, Lily began to introduce her to Astrid, Sirius, Peter, James and a few other Gryffindors that were sitting near by. Before pointing out Remus, who was still paying attention to the head-master.
“It’s nice to meet you all.” Veronica smiled softly as she sat down on the other side of Lily. Her stomach was rumbling lowly, as she had not eaten for a few hours and was beginning to get hungry.

Sirius

As he was sitting on the table with his friends; he was sharing his story over the summer. He had run off to the Potter House-hold, as he couldn’t take his family’s traditions and beliefs anymore. They had been over their heads, with the blood-purity crap, it was driving him mad. They had disagreed with him, now more than ever due to him being in Gryffindor and whom his friends were. Noticing Regulus glaring at him from the Slytherin table. Doing his best to ignore him, he glanced over at Astrid, seeing the small smile eventually forming on his lips made him smile.

She had always been the loudest out of the group. Despite being the ‘Bad boy’ and ‘flirt’ that he was; he had secretly been crushing on her for a while now. He winked over at Astrid, before he smirked at her playfully flashing her a cheeky grin. Those two had flirted back and forth for years now. Always getting into trouble on numerous occasions.Brushing his brown locks away from his eyes, he glanced up as he saw Lily making her way over to the table with the new French Girl.

He chuckled lightly at the banter between James and Remus. Leaning over to James, he whispered in his ear “Just ask her out already.”

“You must be from Beauxbatons.” Sirius flashed Veronica a welcoming smile once she was seated on the other side of Lily. “Welcome to Hogwarts.”
Veronica nodded lightly hearing his question. “Yeah, I am.” she bit her lower lip slightly. A few heads turned over at their table, focusing on the new arrival.

“Is it true?...The rumors?” one student careless asked, looking at Veronica with a raised eyebrow.

With a sigh, Veronica glanced away from the student that asked such a care-less question. Looking quite uncomfortable...she just sighed, not willing to answer. Since one of the teachers and a few of her fellow students turned out to be Death Eaters and following Voldemort, Veronica had became quite uncomfortable talking about her former school and class-mates and former friends, she had at the French Wizarding Academy. The school was no longer what it used to be and it’s reputation had sunk. Having moved to London, over the Summer; Veronica was glad when she got accepted into Hogwarts as a transfer Student.

Sirius rose a slight eyebrow at the question; whilst he saw Lily Evans glaring at the 5th year for asking that dumb question. “Are you okay?” he asked, glancing at the new arrival.

Veronica nodded slightly with a sigh, but didn’t answer. The French student, tried to focus on Dumbledore’s speech, looking up at the stage as he spoke about a Tri-Wizard Tournament, that was being held and hosted by Hogwarts. Veronica knew that her school usually participated in these challenges, but this year they were not welcome to.. Whilst Durmstrang was a regular that was still going to be present, her school was being replaced by an American Wizarding School.

Sirius couldn’t help but smirk to himself as he heard the speech. To be a Hogwarts Champion sounded appealing to him. He had a mischievous look on his face. Soon hearing Dumbledore conclude his welcome speech with the usual; “May the feast..Begin.” No one wasted their time grabbing the food onto their plates, once the delicious meals appeared in front of the students on the 4 tables.

ASTRID

It wasn’t rudeness, but a desperate hunger that made her a little anti-social. She smiled as the brunette was introduced, but quickly turned back to Dumbledore and urged him to get on with his speech. But the man delayed, and she swore under her breath which gained her a shove in the ribs from Lily, to which she scowled. In the delay of Dumbledore, someone quickly piped up and asked the new girl if the rumours of France were true. Astrid turned her head, and a little sympathy was shown in her eyes. Her father was an Auror; she knew all of what had happened over in France, her own dad having headed over there to help defeat the faction that had formed. But when she saw the French girl come uncomfortable and almost a little defeatist, she had to raise a brow.

There was no need to take shame in the actions of others, but then again, Astrid was a lot thicker skinned than most. She had been raised in a male dominated environment, and generally got on better with males then she did females, so she wasn’t so easily affected as some. Having grown up with Erik it was best not to show any emotion, he would have threatened to beat every kid in the school up if she’d gotten upset at something. Lily had always scorned her for not being a little more empathetic towards offers, and so for once she held back her natural reply, and instead leaned across towards the fifth year students. “You know” She said to him. “A lad with your IQ really should have a low voice too” she told him with a wicked smile, her words quickly followed by laughter. Astrid straightened up and looked to Veronica, offered a friendlier smile with a wink, before turning back to Dumbledore.

But as she turned she caught Sirius’s eye and once more offered a wry expression. “Cool your loins, Black. The girls not been here five minutes” Astrid said to him. Although, she found herself a little off inside. Astrid had seen Sirius move from girl to girl, he’d left broken hearts all over this school. He had tried it on with her, many a time, but she did not want to be just another conquest. But she would have been a liar if she said she did not fancy him. He was the one reason why she hadn’t been able to maintain a steady relationship whilst at school, because no matter how good they were to her, they just weren’t Sirius.

She sighed and listened to Dumbledore announce that Quidditch this year was cancelled, which was received with outrage from the student body, but that instead it was to be replaced with the Triwizard tournament. Astrid’s eyes rounded before she cheered with the rest, excited about the break from the mundane. “I heard some of those Durmstrang lads are hot!” Astrid said to Flora, who giggled and nodded. As she laughed and settled down, once more she caught the gaze of Sirius, before she looked to the food that appeared, her mind consumed with thoughts of one of her closest male friends.

REMUS

When the cancelling of Quidditch was announced, James flew into a rage, his empty goblet clanging to the floor. “My record!” He stormed, and Remus placed a hand on his shoulder and forced him back down with surprising strength. “You’re head boy” Remus replied, pushing the sleeves of his robes up.

“I don’t give a shit!” James spat, before Lily turned to him and narrowed her eyes a little. But James was in too much of a sour mood, even when the tournament was announced. Even when the food arrived, James was still fuming about the Quidditch that he stabbed too hard at the sausage on his plate and it went flying off the floor. Remus caught it with reflexes that were unnaturally fast and placed it on the bench, his own mind now consumed with thoughts of the tournament.

To be a champion, to be anything but that poor one who hung around with Potter and Black, and the werewolf who had to rely on a potion for normality. He definitely had the brains, only slightly more intelligent than the other two. But did he have the confidence and self-belief? No he did not.

“Will you go for it?” Peter asked James.

“No out of sheer protest!” James scowled.

“What about you?” Peter asked to Sirius.

But Remus was once more lost in thought as his minded off to eternal glory, that massive sack of gold, the fame and popularity amongst the girls. His eyes once more swept to the new girl who was getting all the attention, and their eyes locked briefly, and a lopsided smile was offered, a hint to his cheeky nature in his eyes before he looked back down.“I am going to go for it!” Remus declared to his group, and this was where James now pulled himself from his Quidditch sulk.

“Do you think that is a good idea, Moony?” He asked him, caution in his eyes.

“Yes, you’ve never turned down a bit of chaos” Remus replied.

“Fair one” James said with a nod. “Maybe I’ll put my name in too” He said, his eyes flicking to Lily briefly.

Within minutes the four had all said they were going to put their names in for the tournament, all agreeing they’d support the winner without bitterness. It certainly picked up his mood and soon Remus was lost in a romp of jokes and banter with his friends, even joining in with the Gryffindor girls at times. Whilst Lily was going through everything and anything with Veronica, Astrid and Flora were swapping banter back and forth, and the opening feast ended in incredibly high spirits and with incredibly full tummies.

James was called to leave to show the new children where to go, and Lily paused for a moment. She was on the verge of asking one of her friends to escort Veronica, but Astrid was already pulled to one side by Sirius, and the other girls were lost in a fit of giggles about something.

“Remus, would you show Veronica up to the tower? I don’t want to drag her about the castle” She said and Remus nodded a crooked smile beneath his scruffy hair.

“Not a problem” Remus nodded, feeling a little nervous but trying not to show a lack of confidence or charisma, copying the way Sirius acted around girls. “So, how are you feeling?”

Veronica

She returned Astrid's soft smile-upon being introduced to the group. But she didn't really think, much off her anti-social moment at that exact moment. The girl was probably hungry and Veronica was new after all. It might take her a while, to fit in among the group that Astrid knew for her entire time here at Hogwarts. Plus the rumbling stomachs around her, were another give-away. The French girl was a bit more sensitive than Astrid was, as she had grown up in a slightly different environment than the blonde girl...and it was just her personality that made her feel awry of the 5th year comments and feeling bit defeated. It seemed like, a part of her was scared. Would people think she had something to do with the uprising too? She sure hoped not...she was already nervous about fitting in, as it were. But that thought, made her feel somewhat uneasy. After all, she came from a school who's reputation had dropped and was no longer welcome here.

She kept a bit to herself for the next few moments; but she couldn't help but over hear what Astrid had said to the student who asked her about France. She returned the soft and friendly smile-as if she was thanking her for the 'help.' She had been putting some food on her plate, when she heard James' hissy fit about Quidditch being cancelled and she watched a little surprised at him taking it out on his plate and sausage. Noticing Remus catch his friend's plate-Veronica could see the scars upon his hands. They didn't exactly seem fresh, but she quickly averted her brown eyes not wanting to be caught staring at the older Gryffindor. Despite the scarred hands, and the scruffy hair-due, he was rather attractive.

During the course of the feast; she tried to mostly focus on the conversation with Lily, who was telling her pretty much everything there was to know. Lily had made Veronica feel at ease, and welcome among the Gryffindors right away. Which she was rather thankful for, as the two girls talked and got to know each other a bit as well, Veronica was smiling and laughing along with Lily and the Gryffindor boys, who sometimes joined into the conversation, and the stories they shared. As the boys, spoke about the tournament-she couldn't help but glance over at them briefly. Her eyes locked with Remus across the table. Her lips curled up into a soft and warm smile, blushing slightly as she saw the hint of cheekiness in his eyes. That's when she heard him say, he was going to go for the Tournament. He seemed like a brave guy, for wanting to place himself in such danger.

She glanced over at Remus a few times during the feast; but sometimes quickly averted her gaze from slight shyness and not wanting to be caught staring. Veronica enjoyed her dinner, drink and chat with Lily for the majority of the evening in the Grand Hall. By the end of the feast; she was pretty along with everyone else felt stuffed. Veronica had to take a few deep breaths, still trying to digest the food. When Veronica heard Lily asking Remus to show her up to the tower, she tried to fight a forming blush on her cheeks.

Looking at Remus, she bit her bottom lip slightly. Her dark hair hiding the forming blush on her cheeks, as it fell around the curves of her face perfectly. "Well, I guess I feel a little nervous about the transfer. But right now, I am feeling a bit stuffed from all the food." she smiled at him gently. Veronica gave Lily a soft wave, as she and Remus left the hall-following his lead up to the Gryffindor Tower. Veronica stood and just admired the moving stair-cases and talking paintings for a few moments. Hogwarts was different than her last school. "How do you not get, lost with all these moving stairs?" she giggled lightly. She knew it probably sounded like a silly question, as he probably knew the Castle inside out by now. But she would probably get lost, if she didn't have a tour guide...or a map, or just general advice. The stairs they stood upon, started to shift and she let out a slight gasp gripping onto the banister; not wanting to lose her grip and foothold.

Sirius

As Sirius tried to make sure, the new girl was alright and not taking the 5th year comments too bad; he heard Astrid's remark about his loins. He narrowed his eyes at her slightly, before raising a brow at her. "My loins, are perfectly fine and intact. Thank you...Turpin." he mocked, as he gave her a playful glare. The comments about his loins, caused a few giggles and snorts of laughter to come from the Gryffindor table-including Veronica who was trying to stifle a giggle at the odd comment. "I can't be nice to the new girl?" he shook his head at Astrid. Just because he was a major flirt, and left a few broken hearts among the girls here. Didn't mean, he was trying on with the new girl. He was simply expressing concern, about the new-comer who was feeling a bit flustered and uncomfortable due to the remarks made about France. He then saw Peter giving him a funny look. In return, Sirius rose an eyebrow at him, before he turned to face James who was having one of his hissy fits about Quidditch. "You do realize, your record will still be the same and perfect?" he told him. Just because Quidditch got cancelled, didn't mean the other teams beat his record...or his record was being magically erased.

During the feast; he caught the look between Remus and Veronica. He rose a slight eyebrow smiling. He just smirked over at Remus,as if he was wondering if one of his best-friends just had a forming crush on the new girl already. He couldn't help but raise a slight eyebrow in surprise, hearing him wanting to take part in the tournament. He knew that Remus, wanted to be normal and enjoy life like everyone else...but he couldn't help but look slightly concerned for his friend. Over-hearing Astrid's comments about Durmstrang guys; he rolled his eyes into the back of his head.

Hearing Peter's question, he just smirked looking proud of himself already. "You bet, I am." he said, glancing at Astrid slightly who was giggling away with Flora about something. Who wouldn't want to be a Hogwarts Champion? To Win Eternal Glory-it seemed like it appealed to a lot of people, including the 4 Marauders. He couldn't help but wonder, if it might make Astrid look at him a little differently. It seemed like, he was not totally aware about her deep affections towards him-despite their flirting back and forth over the years. Her rejection of him, made him think that she didn't really feel much for him. So he gathered she just rejected due to his 'bad-boy' manner and the fact that any other guy held her attention.

Despite the fact that he moved on from girl to girl, without much care. There was just something about the blonde opposite him, that made him stop and wonder for a few moments at a time. But it didn't always stop him from being a massive flirt that he was.

During the course of the feast; he couldn't help but wonder who would actually succeed for Hogwarts. Him, Peter, Remus...James? Or someone else....Sirius had his lips pursed in thought for a few moments and soon enough he was full up from the delicious food. Just like everyone else. As people, started to disperse; he tugged Astrid aside for a few moments. "Did you really, have to make that comment about my loins?" he scowled slightly. Sirius was a bit too proud to admit, it embarrassed him.....out loud. But it was visible it irritated him at least. He rose an eyebrow, opening his mouth to say something else but trailed off as he could see Trevor making his way over towards Astrid. He just kept his mouth shut, glaring slightly past the blonde and towards the tall, Hufflepuff that Astrid was currently dating.

He sighed, about to wish Astrid a good evening. But he heard Peter calling for him. Shifting on his feet, he turned away from the pair and walked off towards his friend.

ASTRID

She groaned at the end of the feast, her stomach fit to burst from all that food. “I should not have had that third lot of crumble” Astrid said, rubbing small circles on her stomach, trying to soothe herself. She was well ready to climb up into her bed, and was grateful to see that her day started tomorrow with a free=period. That brought an immediate smile to her face as she thought of the line in; she would even sacrifice breakfast in order to sleep a little longer. She knew where the kitchens were and the elves were always on hand to offer extra food. It wasn’t the first time she had snuck down there for a bacon and egg sandwich, and she was sure it wouldn’t be her last.

Her schedule was looking rather packed, especially as this was her NEWT year and she was going to be sitting the most important exams of her academic career. And as she intended to go on to become a Mediwitch, she had a lot of serious and heavy learning to do.

The houses were dismissed, and Astrid got to her feet, but before a step could be taken she felt a hand circle around the top of her arm and pull her to the side. With a small “Whoa” she was spun in a flutter of golden curls and brought round to face Sirius. She could not ignore the wild excitement she felt inside, from both his touch and their proximity. Her eyes looked to his hand before up to his face, and she couldn’t help but smirk at him.

“What, did you lose your sense of humour over the summer?” She asked him, peeling his hand off of her arm and readjusting her robes, before wriggling her shoulders a little. “Not the first time I’ve teased you about being the resident heartbreaker is it?” She questioned him. Why had he now decided to take what she had said personally? After years of them playfully taking the mick out of each other, of their usual back and forth, never having any boundaries to what they could say to one another, why now? She watched Remus walk past with the French girl, and that was when she understood why he had gotten offended, because of the new girl. He hadn’t even had the chance to make his move and Astrid had already revealed to her that he was a bit of a playboy about school.

This pissed her off more than it should have, she would have to endure watching him with someone else again. Well, he had given her ample opportunity to get with him, but she just could not risk being heartbroken by him. They were as good as best friends really, though not an official Marauder she was always hanging around with them all. And how many times had she and Sirius almost kissed? If only Sirius could settle a little, she’d snap him up and be the girl to stop him from straying. If only.

“Lighten up Black, no one likes a killjoy” She said to him before slipping past, but her shoulder brushing past his and her eyes locking with his for a second before meeting up with Trevor. And for the first time, she didn’t like the way his hand felt on her hip.

REMUS

It was understandable for a new person to be overwhelmed by the castle. It was the oldest school in the world, the first of its kind the world over. It was filled with turrets and dungeons, and passages and levels. But there was also a secret network of concealed passages and walkways, some that led to other parts of the castle and some that lead out! How many times had he and his friends snuck out under James’ cloak and down to Hogsmeade? Just before summer they headed down having used Polyjuice potion and all gotten slaughtered in the three broomsticks. He smirked at the memory, remembering trying to clamber back to the tower without being seen. They had stumbled past Filch who could smell the alcohol but not see them, and it had been amusing to see him look about the place.

He was convinced that no one knew the school like they did, and with the map that was currently buried in his trunk, they were able to create all kinds of mischief and mayhem. Where would they be without that map? Expelled was probably the right answer.

“You learn your way” Remus answered as honestly as he can without revealing their secrets. “After a while you learn their patterns” He added, which was true. Living in a tower up on the highest floor meant you often beat the same old path. In less than a year Remus could tell you which stairwell went where and when they would move. Some weren’t as quick to pick up on it, but usually most got the swing by half way through year two. Once the steps stopped, he jumped off and extended his hand to help her, as no sooner had it stilled than it had taken off again. “Careful for that one, it never stays still” He added as he let go of her hand almost immediately, stuffing his scared hands into his robes and out of sight.

Next to her he looked extremely unkempt and pale, his skin taking a grey hue to it owing to the coming full moon. Once more he would take up residence in the shack and let lose all control; that was until his friends would turn up. James would become a Stag and Sirius a huge black dog, animals large enough to keep him in line. And Peter would become a rat, small enough to render the whomping willow stationary to allow them access in. Remus doubted anyone knew Hogwarts, Hogsmeade and the surrounding mountains and grounds quite like the four of them did, and it was just another fond memory that brought a smile to his face.

“Gryffindor tower is right up the top” He informed Veronica, before going on to explain the other three houses and where each of their dorms was located. He already overheard Lily telling her all the other stuff and about the rules and regulations, so there wasn’t much left for him to explain. And as she was already a little unsettled, he didn’t want to pry or offend. “What lesson layout you got?” He asked. Having already done his sixth year, depending on her chosen career path, he’d be able to advise her, or offer her help, if she wanted it.

Sirius

As they stood so close; he could feel her breath tingle against his skin. He just rose a slight eyebrow at hearing her words about losing his sense of humor and her teasing him about this before. Sirius' jaw clenched slightly; he wasn't sure why it bothered him all of a sudden. Maybe it was the new girl's presence and that she was probably the only girl in the school, that didn't blush and get all fluttery at his gaze. Or maybe, it was his feelings for Astrid that had messed him up. Doing his best to ignore Veronica and Remus passing him, he felt his emotions and thoughts scatter all over the place. "Just forget it." he muttered, with a slight frown as he shook his head.

As he walked off, towards Peter he rolled his eyes at her comment about being a killjoy "Whatever!" he called back to her. His hand curled up into a fist slightly. He tried to ignore looking over towards Trevor and Astrid who were in near qauters as they seemed to be headed the same direction he was-the stairs to the towers.

Peter could tell how irritated Sirius looked for some reason; he never known his best friend to be annoyed about the people Astrid was with. Until now...why the sudden change? "You okay?" he asked him, with clear concern in his voice.

"I am fine." Sirius muttered in return. The two Marauders were making their way up to the Gryffindor tower. Unlike Sirius, Peter gave a wave to Trevor and Astrid on their parting in different directions. But both kept a vigil eye on the time. It was that time of the month; Remus's transformation and they were going to be keeping an eye on their friend once again. Sirius pursed his lips in thought; wondering how their friend was feeling right now. He knew that he was always a bit anxious about it, but once again they would get to sneak out of the castle...the fond memories he shared with Remus, James and Peter brought a slight smile to his face.
As they made their way up to the tower; Peter was the first one to see Remus talking with the new girl. He and Sirius kept slightly behind not wanting to disturb the two. Girls were mostly interested in the other lads of the group, so this was probably the first time that Peter or Sirius witnessed a girl that was interested in being around Remus *besides Lily, Astrid that is*, with a bright beaming smile and cute blush. The two started to chat among themselves, leaving Remus and Veronica to carry on with their conversation.

Trevor smiled softly as Astrid joined him and he wrapped his arm around her. His hand resting on her hip softly as he kissed the side of her head softly. "Are you okay, beautiful?" he asked, with a warm and tender smile. His eyes looking at her with slight concern as he felt her uneasiness. She felt a little more tensed up then usual.

Veronica

As they made their way up the stairs; she listened to his words about the stairs and she gave him a soft nod. "I suppose so." she said with a gentle smile. "How long did it take you, to get the hang of it?" she asked, with a curious expression on her face. But a gentle and soft smile. When they reached the top; she saw him reach his hand out to her. Holding onto his hand softly for help...she did a little hop, landing beside him just as the staircase seemed to be move on it's own once again. "Thanks, for that." Veronica told him with a gentle smile as she let go of his hand softly. She couldn't help but notice him hiding his hands...whether it was shame for him having scarred hands, or something else. She didn't want to pry, so she just smiled at him gently listening to him him talk as he pointed out the different locations.

As they stood close to each other throughout their conversation; Veronica couldn't help but notice how pale he looked. With a slight grey tint to his complexion. A slight worried look crossed her face; as it seemed like he was ill...but his actions and body temperature told her, he was healthy not ill. Doing her best to mask, her worry with a soft smile and soft eyes as she saw the warm smile on his face a few times. He had a cute smile for sure.

Hearing him ask about her schedule; she nodded. "Yeah, I have it with me." she said softly, as she reached into her robes and pulled out a piece of paper that had her class schedule on it. Her classes consisted off; Care for Magical Creatures, Potions, Study of Ancient Runes, History of Magic, Defense against the dark arts, Divination and Arithmacy. Her double lessons through out the week being Care for Magical Creatures and Study of Ancient Runes. She let him look over her schedule and she smiled over at him gently. He was rather sweet to her, and made her feel less anxious as he helped her out already. Another person besides Lily, she would gladly turn to for help and advice.

"Any tips, for my first day of lessons tomorrow?" she asked him, wondering if there was anything that might help her out. A part of her also wondered if they shared any classes together.

ASTRID

She nodded, though there was a sparkle lacking from her usually bright eyes. But Astrid nodded and looked up to him, smiling as she did so. “Yeah, just tired” she said to him. It wasn’t a lie, but it wasn’t her energy levels that left her weary, but more matters of the heart and mind. As she turned back, she saw Sirius head up the marble stairwell and off up to the Gryffindor tower. Being a Hufflepuff, Trevor’s dorm was down by the kitchens. Astrid had been in there a few times, and had snuck into Trevor’s bed late of night and spent the night buried beneath his arm. It had been her plan tonight, especially as she didn’t have an early start tomorrow. But something about her interaction with Sirius had left her low in mood, and undeniably annoyed with the male. Something had changed, their usual carefree mockery and playful friendship had taken an uncomfortable turn this evening, and it left Astrid unhappy and her mind racing.

“I’m going to head up to the tower tonight, but I’ll see you tomorrow?” Astrid said with a smile before she reached up on her tiptoes. Her lips pressed against his, but only for a moment before she heard the cough of one of the professors, who gave them both a stern stare. “Goodnight” Astrid said to Trevor with another smile and squeeze of the hand, before she turned and made her way up to the Gryffindor tower.

Astrid was so lost in thought as she moved, she failed to notice Nearly-headless Nick, and walked straight through him which left her agitated and freaked out by the icy sensation, and she brushed her hands over her arms, as if that was going to remove the cold. Her heeled shoes hit the stone floor as she walked, Astrid was frequently reminded that her attire was inappropriate, her skirt a little too short, her blouse a little too tight or her heels a little too high. Like she ever listened, with a strong love for muggle fashions, Astrid always kept an eye on what was going on in the muggle world. It was why so much effort went into her hair; the lengthy and thick tresses needed a lot of effort not to become a tangled mess. Astrid always made an effort with her appearance, and though she would never tell anyone, it was all for Sirius.

An excited little thrill ran through her when she would catch him looking at her legs, when he said she looked nice she would beam with genuine flattery. Outwardly, she seemed impervious to his flattery and charm. Where nearly every girl in the school fell at his feet and turned into giggling wrecks around him, Astrid was able to remain confident and unfazed, offering back a witty remark or making him smile. The pair were two of the most popular students in school, he adored by all the girls and she fancied by all the boys, they were the perfect couple! But they were now in their final year, and nothing had happened other than years of flattery and denial.

She arrived at the tower and climbed through the portrait hall, and she just slumped down into one of the comfortable chairs before the fire. The common room was mostly empty; only a few remained, including the four that went by the name of Marauders and the new girl. Astrid sighed and closed her eyes for a moment, knowing that rest was not going to come when Flora tossed a letter into her lap. Opening it up she looked down to see her brother had sent a letter, and with an amused smile she opened it up.

REMUS

“Not too long” Remus informed her. “I got it by the end of the first year. Though one of my friends still ended up getting lost last year” He said. He remembered being sat in the common room with James and Sirius, waiting for Peter. When a few hours had passed they looked on the map and found him over the other side of the castle wondering around in circles. When they had turned up he was stuck on the spinning staircase with his eyes ready to spill tears. After they had stopped laughing, they’d performed a complicated bit of trickery and managed to rescue him. The memory brought a laugh to his face as they turned and headed down the hallway towards Gryffindor common room. “But most get it by year two, but everyone in Gryffindor is pretty good and will help you out” he added as they reached the fat lady.

He said the password, explaining about the security measures before the portrait swung forwards and allowed them access. “After you” He said extending his hand to the hole, and once they climbed inside she offered him her schedule. Taking a seat around one of the tables, sitting beneath one of the portraits, he looked down at her timetable. “Not a bad list” He said to her, looking to the lessons. Having done his sixth year, he knew which lessons could be hard going and which were more enjoyable. However, he hadn’t taken Divination, Ancient Runes or Arithmacy so he could offer her no advice on those particular subjects.

“Defence is hard going, but it’s enjoyable” he informed her. “Potions is a killer, but Professor Slughorn has a real love for anyone who has any form of famous connection. So if your mum is a queen he’ll love you” He added with a laugh to end his playful comment. “Binns the ghost is the teacher of History, and have some coffee before that, he can make the most exciting of subjects boring” He added.

And then he looked to Care of Magical Creatures, and he couldn’t help but smile. “The animals subject is my favourite” he informed, having gained an O in his OWLs in year five, although most of his learning had been self-taught. “Although, Professor Kettleburn is absolutely nuts!” he informed handing her schedule back to her. “Really eccentric and accident prone, he only has one arm and half a leg left” Remus informed her. Remus had a fondness for the man though, and often found his carelessness amusing. “He isn’t the best at teaching, often goes on about trying to breed a Skrewt with a Unicorn… I’ll erm… If you need help with that, I can… Help?” He offered, feeling a little awkward and also pompous for offering her help. He wasn’t a professor, although that was certainly something that he had always thought of doing in his later life. But he didn’t want to come across as a know-it-all, and looking at Sirius’s carefree and cool stance, Remus tried to copy his relaxed posture, although was sure he just looked ill doing so.

Veronica

Listening to Remus; she nodded gently at his assessment about the staircases. She pursed her lips in thought for a few moments.“Mhh..That doesn’t sound so bad. I’ll probably pick up on it sooner, rather than later. I am not that bad with directions, just getting used to something different.” she said and couldn’t help but giggle as he mentioned one of his friends getting lost. “After 6 years? wow.” she shook her head softly; but had a sympathetic smile on her lips nonetheless. When they reached the fat lady, she listened to Remus explain more about the measures taken for protection. Making a mental note off the password.

“Thanks.” she smiled softly, as she walked through the hole. Soon joined by him in the rather cozy and comfortable Gryffindor Common Room. The fire had left the room, pleasantly lit and warm. Sitting down with him on one of the chairs; she watched him read over her class schedule for the year. She smiled gently as he commented on her lessons not being a bad list. “What lessons do you have then?” she asked, curious to see what lessons they had in common and which were different to hers. As he started to explain; she nodded as she listened to him with a soft smile on her lips.

Nodding along; she couldn’t help but laugh softly at what he mentioned about the Potion’s professor. “My family’s not that famous. But my mum is a well known potions professor, so I guess he might know her.” she commented softly, brushing her hair out of her eyes. Tucking a few of her locks behind her ear. At his comment about Binns-she let out a slight sigh “Oh great...why is it, they always have to have boring professors for interesting subjects?” she asked with a slight laugh “I can’t imagine, he’s much worse than one of my old professors….he was so slow. I swear, one hour passed and he was still on the same sentence….either that, he just pronounces every word...very strangely. I don’t even know, how most of us passed his classes with an E.” the strange lessons and the odd teacher now made her laugh. She and the Students spent most of the time, doing their work in silence...and being ahead of the teacher, learning on their own most of the time.

Veronica couldn’t help but smile as he mentioned taking care of animals were his favorite subject. “Mine too.” she admitted-she always loved that lesson, and learning about interesting and magical creatures. It was a beautiful subject. She rose a slight eyebrow at the information about Professor Kettleburn giggling slightly. “Wow...well he sounds like fun. How did he end up with one arm and half a leg?” she asked, wincing slightly at the subject of being dismembered like that. As he handed her the schedule back. She neatly folded the paper back up, setting it into her pockets and she couldn't help but blush slightly smiling as he offered to give her help. “That’d be great. It’s sweet of you to offer.” she smiled at him warmly, but couldn’t help but notice his awkwardness after offering his help.

Seeing his posture changing, Veronica watched him in silence for a few moments. Trying to see him look relaxed and cool at the same time, was a bit strange. She bit her lower lip, trying not to giggle at what she thought was rather adorable. “Are you okay?” she finally asked him, with a soft smile.”Do you...always….get...so...nervous?” she asked, not sure what better to describe it. It would just seemed a bit nervous...and awkward to anyone else “I don’t bite.” she told him with a soft smile.

Trevor

Looking at Astrid; he noticed how weary and withdrawn she seemed. The sparkle gone from her eyes...he couldn’t help but wonder if something was on her mind, or she was just exhausted. Maybe both. He gently brushed his fingers through her hair, as he then rubbed her back in a soothing manner. “I hope, you get a goodnight’s sleep.” he told her softly upon hearing how tired she was. He hoped, she would sneak into his dorm as always. He found it endearing how she’d sneak out in the middle of the night and sleep cuddled up next to him. It felt nice.

Looking down at her, he nodded at her words softly. “Okay, have a good night. I’ll see you in the morning.” he told her with a soft smile, but felt his heart sink slightly. As he felt her lips on his, he brushed a few loose curls behind her ear. Before placing a kiss on top of her head. “Night.” he told her softly, smiling at the soft hand squeeze. Watching her walk up the stairs. Trevor soon turned and made his way to the Hufflepuff dorms. He was soon joined by the other hufflepuffs, including his friends that were making their ways to their dorms for the night. Trevor yawned slightly, stretching out his muscles. He too was starting to feel tired, from the long journey and the feast that left him full to the brim.

Sirius

Sitting down on the couch, with Peter and James sitting near by. James sitting down on the floor-facing both of the Marauders, whilst keeping a slight eye on Remus and Veronica. The three friends spoke about their last year-and the current lessons they were taking. The boys as always, sharing their potions class with Slughorn.

As Sirius leaned against the couch, his arm was draped over the edge in a cool and composed way. Even that stance, managed to turn more than a few heads of the last Gryffindor girls that walked into the common room. He glanced up, hearing Astrid's shoes clicking against the ground. But he glanced away, getting back into conversation with his friends. But from the corner of his eyes; he watched Astrid reading a letter from her brother. But he couldn’t help but hear the new girl giggling every so often, and smiling...and blushing whilst she was talking to Remus. He rose a slight eyebrow...he never known Remus to make a girl blush before.

Noticing his friend, trying to copy his cool posture. He rose a slight eyebrow looking at how, awkward Remus was making it look. He shook his head chuckling “Dear god..just be yourself, Moony!” he told him.

Peter glanced over at Remus and Veronica; watching those two with curious eyes for a few moments. But he couldn’t help but smile. Maybe, Remus would find someone after all this year.

Veronica couldn’t help but notice the boys staring over at them. “What is it?” she asked, with a slight raised eyebrow, wondering why they were staring over at them all of a sudden.

James shrugged, looking at Veronica “Nothing….”
Peter blushed a bit, as he caught them out-pursing his lips to say something but found no words. She just rose an eyebrow at them, whilst Sirius just smirked looking at her and Remus. He winked towards Remus.

Veronica watched them with curious look-trying to figure out what Sirius look meant-as she glanced between the three boys. “If nothing...then don’t stare, too much boys.” she told them with a teasing look.

ASTRID

With a slight roll of her eyes she reached for the discarded ink well and parchment, and began to fill out her reply. In true form, her older brother was already checking up on her, under the guise of enquiring about Jory. Her plump and curvy writing filled the page, though she left any response about herself vague. There was no need for her to say anything, as he said he would be popping up to the school for the tournament, having heard about it from their father. Astrid was also given strict instruction not to enter, and she couldn’t help but feel compelled to put her name in for it, although she knew deep down she would do no such thing.

Astrid wasn’t really the competitive type, except when it came to Sirius. She always worked hard to have the upper hand in their friendship, always sure to be on her guard and not succumb to his charm, no matter how hard he tried. He was relentless though, and always managed to cause an eruption of butterflies within her, although she never showed it outwardly, not to him anyway. There were only a select few who knew the full extent of her feelings for Sirius, and that was her immediate circle of girlfriends.

As Sirius spoke, Astrid looked up and watched him tease Remus and she shook her head, finishing off the letter and heading over to the window. Pushing it open, she let out a complicated whistle to the cold air and waited for the horned Owl to come back, perching on the ledge with a mouse tail hanging out of its beak. “Lovely” Astrid said as part of the dead vermin fell onto the back of her hand. She tied the scroll to its leg. “Leave before Erik has a chance to send back a reply” She said before the bird took flight, and she pulled the window closed. Already a chill had settled in and she rubbed her hands together before turning around before laughing to herself at the pitiful display before her.

“Stare any harder, Black” Astrid said as she sat herself down on the sofa, moving his arm out of the way as she rested. “You’ll start drooling… Why aren’t you with Lil?” Astrid asked James.

“What?” He asked, before she nodded down to his head boy’s badge.

“Shit!” He snapped before running out of the dorm, almost falling over himself as he scrambled up the portrait hole to try and find Lily. Astrid and the rest chuckled, before she looked back to Sirius.

“How are you getting on at James’s place?” Astrid asked kindly. She knew all too well just what a nasty environment he had grown up in, and of the blood supremacy that his family believed in. His brother and cousins were in Slytherin, he was the only Gryffindor and she knew he had received hell for it. Astrid hated the thought of him returning back to his parents’ house each summer, and it had swelled her heart when she heard that he had left once and for all.

REMUS

“You’re a sixth year, so your lessons are tough, but not as gruelling as what I am getting this year” He informed her as he tugged out his own schedule and showed her. Everything was now at an advanced level, and his selection wasn’t easy. Transfiguration, Defence against the Dark Arts, Charms, Potions, Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures, his week was a mix of double this, advanced that and the odd free period reserved for additional studying, or so the teachers said anyway. It wasn’t unheard of to see the foursome disappearing off somewhere if they ever had the same free period as one another; you very seldom found them in the library together. Whilst Remus had a love for knowledge, he never did turn down hanging out in favour of studying.

“Ketteburn? He gets a little experimental and excited, but doesn’t really think things through” Remus explained about the animals teacher, and smirked at the image of his wiry white hair and dishevelled appearance.

In the blink of an eye, Remus felt embarrassed, awkward and uncomfortable. Firstly, by Sirius’s comment and he gave his friend a look which meant he was resisting the urge to punch him. But also by Veronica pointing out his ill ease, she had been the one person he hadn’t wanted to pass comment. “Just not feeling too great” Remus replied, sitting himself up a little straighter and pushing a hand through his thick hair, looking away from her for a moment and just watching the few others in the common room. But then matters were made worse by the continuing stare of Peter, and Remus reached his hand out for what other object he could find.

A cushion went sailing through the air and hit Peter on the side of his face, and caused the shorter male to slump over with a loud cuss, and Remus laughed along with the rest of them, his head rolling a little bit as Peter tried to gather himself. His eyes caught sight of Sirius and Astrid for a second and he couldn’t help but roll his eyes. Everyone knew that those two were mad for each other, though neither would admit it. Sirius also had a habit of mumbling her name in his sleep sometimes, and it was the same with James, he’d often end up slurring Lily’s name into his pillow. Having never really been involved with a girl, he had never experienced that kind of affection.

As he was one of the most popular guys in school, or rather because he was best friends with the popular duo that was Sirius and James, he was never short of attention. But Remus had believed it all to be false, and had never clicked with anyone other than a cheeky kiss here and there. He took back his schedule and stuffed it in his pocket as he rolled his shoulders, his body starting to feel strange, as it always did when a full moon approached.

Veronica

Listening to Remus talking about their different schedules due to the academic years-she nodded in silence, taking it all in. When he produced his own schedule; she looked it over, looking impressed but also bit shocked at his harder selections for the year. It seemed like it would be more tougher for him, than for her. He had more doubles than she did. "Wow...that's an impressive list. Good luck." she smiled at him gently. It seemed like Remus was smart, at least she assumed so. Veronica was about to offer her help, if he needed it. But considering he was a 7th year, he knew a lot more about some of the subjects than she did...due to her former school having slightly different lessons. But of course she was happy to help. She gave him a soft smile, as she left his schedule on the little table once she finished looking over it.

As he talked about Kettleburn, she nodded as she smiled softly. "Ouch..well at least his lessons are fun. It sounds like they are." she commented with a smile. Veronica was rather curious about this experimental teacher. She'd have to wait and find out, about him until tomorrow.

Seeing Remus become suddenly uncomfortable...through the looks and stares and by any comment regarding his posture. She just gave him a sympathetic smile. Her chocolate brown eyes soft and tender, in her gaze. "Sorry....I hope you feel better." she breathed out softly. Not knowing the reasons for him not feeling well-she just assumed it down to stress, being tired from the long day. When Remus tossed a pillow at Peter, she let out a slight giggle and shook her head smiling at Peter's cursing.

"What was that for?" Peter whined, as he struggled to get up "He's the one...that commented on your....trying to pull of a Sirius swagger moment." he nodded over to Sirius.

Veronica giggled hearing Peter whine "That's what you got for staring." That's when she saw James running off to find Lily-trying not to giggle as he almost fell over his own two feet.

Peter glanced at the new girl "You're on his side?" he mocked playfully-pouting slightly before he tossed the pillow back at Remus. But due to his lack of strength and proper aim in the moment, it just landed near the table. Veronica giggled at Peter's aiming skills shaking her head. The moment somewhat amusing.

Sirius

Seeing the look on Remus's face; he just flashed him a smile. Pretending to look innocent before laughing as Peter fell to the floor after a pillow hit him. "Losing your balance, already mate?" he teased..poling him playfully with his foot. His eyes caught Astrid by the window with her owl; and he bit his lip slightly as he glanced away. But it wasn't long before he heard her comment about drooling "I don't drool." he muttered, with a smirk. But he felt his cheeks heating up slightly...he probably did drool a little bit in his sleep when dreaming off the blonde in front of him. He glanced away for a few moments; trying to compose himself in hopes she would not notice the blush on his cheeks. When she sat down beside him, he left his arm near him. His hand resting on his knee.

Hearing James, he laughed softly shaking his head "Every time..." he muttered in an amused voice as he watched his best friend run off to find Lily. It wasn't the first time, James had gotten forgetful.

It wasn't long before he rest his arm over the top of the couch, his arm stretching behind Astrid's head since she was sitting near by. As Astrid asked him about his current residence at the Potter's, he smiled softly. His smile warm and dashing. "It's going great...his family is more welcoming than mine ever were. It feels nice to relax and feel like, at home. Besides here, I feel like I am at home there. It's a nice change." he told her. He had his fair share of troubles at home, and he didn't feel like he belonged, or was at home there as the years passed. Now, living with the Potters-he was accepted, and he felt more at home and at ease. It was like he truly was a part of the family. Him and James being almost like brothers, as they had grown a bit closer over the summer yet.

"How's Erik doing with the Falmouth Falcons?" he asked, nodding towards the letter from her older brother. Sirius glanced over at Remus, and he felt a bit worried for a few moments. He checked the time a few times, looking bit anxious but tried to hide it from the new girl. There were just too many things that could not be said right now. He knew, how much Remus suffered from the curse and it was not getting any easier. He, Peter and James knew the patterns, of his mood swings and how he was feeling...today was such one evening where it was kicking off again.

ASTRID

“That’s good” Astrid said, though those two words held several meanings to them. Astrid knew how awful his family were, about their fanatical and prejudiced ways. She had been round to Sirius’s place once, and that had been interesting. Her family was one of the most ancient and infamous magical families, as pure-blooded as they came. However, her family were pro-integration and welcoming of all of magical ability, and even now were fighting the dark wizard and his followers. Mrs Black and sounded off, calling Astrid and her family all manner of profanity and insult, and then became infuriated when Astrid had put her down with a simple sentence and stood her ground. If it hadn’t been for Sirius’s quick wand work, Astrid would have been cursed into oblivion. It was safe to say that Astrid never went back to his house again.

But she was genuinely thrilled that he had gotten out of there, and that he was now free of their tyranny. The Potter’s were amazing, close friends of her fathers and a popular family. Astrid held her friends dearer to her heart than she would ever admit, but was most protective of them. And though she wouldn’t admit her feelings for Sirius to anyone, she had been sick with worry every time he went back to his family home.

“Yeah great, broken a few limbs already” Astrid said with an amused smile. “In fact he…” But she stopped what she was saying when she saw Sirius once again look to the new girl, and she frowned, before looking back round to the fire. “Why don’t you let Remus have this one?” Astrid said as she dunked her hand into a bowl of flavoured beans, and began picking out the suspicious looking ones. She popped one in her mouth, and winced as what tasted like sprouts burst into her mouth. Looking back over her shoulder, her eyes went on to Remus and his grey complexion, and she looked out the window.

Astrid, along with Lily, knew of the Marauders and of course knew about Remus’s curse, and she had held the utmost secrecy as promised. She then knew why Sirius kept looking over and felt a little ashamed, so her hand reached out and enveloped Sirius’s hand with her own before she leaned in close to him. “Does he have enough Wolfsbane?” She whispered, pretending to straighten his collar.

However, being this close to Sirius’s face caused a stir within her, as their eyes locked she wanted so desperately to grab him and kiss him. There were so many reasons why they couldn’t be together, and she loathed everyone.

REMUS

Remus was grateful for the distraction brought by his friends, and took the moment to observe his reflection in the mirror behind her. He was grey; there were bags under his eyes and a clear and evident fatigue to his features. His hair was a mess, brown locks flopping this way and that. He did not have the pristine robes of his friends, his were shabby and at the moment hanging off of him. He always took an ill turn when that full moon approached, and his mood grew in agitation. His friends all knew how to handle him, but Veronica did not.

He wanted so much to impress her, for her to like him, but what was there to offer? He was poor, he was a mess and he was a werewolf. Yes he was a nice guy and looked for the good in all, and tried not to let the curse stop him, but he had nothing to offer a girl. Veronica was gorgeous, and would soon be rivalling Astrid and Lily for the boys attention he was sure. The school was riddled with the rich and the confident, his two best friends included. There wasn’t a girl in this school who hadn’t been in love with Sirius at some point, and though they fawned over James too, he had only eyes for Lily. But then again, Sirius only really wanted Astrid, though he was too stubborn to admit it.

Maybe Remus did have a shot with Veronica, maybe if he asked Sirius for tips with the ladies, or maybe not. Remus would never be able to carry off that arrogance and stride, and that just wasn’t him anyway. He sighed and looked to the students who now headed off to the dorms, the common room slowly emptying out. It wasn’t uncommon for the Marauders to be the last ones to go up to bed, sometimes not even getting into their beds at all! Astrid was often there too, sneaking back in with one of her friends, or flirting the hours away.

“So, where about did you move to?” He asked. He was from Lancashire himself, a slight northern twang to his accent. His friends were all southerners, so there had always been banter between them. “Did you just come over with your parents?” He added, wanting to know her more and forget the rest in the room.

Sirius

Looking at Astrid-he flashed a charming yet soft and thankful smile towards Astrid. She was one of the few people that knew what he went through and what he suffered, living with the Black's. His brother, attending the school didn't stop some of the comments and hate he got away from home, but living with the Potters was different. James was his savior in that aspect. Although, he was thankful to all of his friends who have managed to persuade him to finally leave home....Sirius had thought about it many a times, threatened to leave, but he only did so this summer. "Yeah, very good." he acknowledged with a nod. The memories of Astrid versus his mother flashed through his mind. He had never seen many people hold their own, against his mother like that. Of course, Astrid sure was fiery and feisty in that aspect. Even if it almost came at a price. Having been to worried about her; Sirius hadn't invited her back since then. Although, he knew she and her family had been awry of going back themselves.

Listening to Astrid talk about her brother, he chuckled lightly when she informed him off his broken bones. That team was tough and rather scary at times....broken bones were the always on the map for them. As she trailed off; he rose a slight eyebrow hearing her comment. "He what?" Sirius prompted, wondering what Astrid was going to say about her brother. True, he may have kept looking over at Sirius and the New Girl-but it wasn't what Astrid thought. Veronica was possibly, the first girl that didn't bat her eyelids at him, blush at his smile...and was more interested in Remus, than him or James. That was fair enough; his best friend reserved someone too...and to be happy. But Sirius had been worried about him.

His hand too, reached into the bowl grabbing a few beans. Popping one into his hand, he coughed making a face of disgust as he had gotten a earwax flavor. Peter couldn't help but snicker at their reactions. "What you guys get then?" he asked, grabbing a few for himself.
"Earwax." Sirius spoke with disgust, trying to find a good flavored one to get rid of the taste. Getting a lemon flavored one by luck. Peter too looked disgusted yet amused at the flavor.

That's when Sirius noticed; Astrid taking in Remus's appearance as well, it was like she realized her mistake and figured it out herself. He sighed softly, flashing her a soft smile. He wasn't mad at her; everyone made mistakes. As she touched his hand, he looked deeply into his eyes. Seeing her lean in so close, made his heart beat a little faster. She always smelled so nice, her elegant and beautiful lips just calling out to him. He got lost in her eyes, feeling her soft hand first on his, then straightening his collar. Sirius nodded softly. "Yeah, we got him some during the summer, he should have enough. I just hope, he took some already." he whispered, keeping his voice soft and low. Remus's state was more than worrying right now. He just looked so sickly...and paler than most. It was worrying, even if he did take some Wolfsbane.

Veronica

Veronica noticed the banter between Astrid, Sirius and Peter regarding the bowl of beans. "Do you mind, if I have a few?" she asked, nodding to the bowl.

Sirius looked up at the new girl and held out the bowl out to her. "If you're sure, Go ahead." he said and once Veronica took a few into her palm; Sirius placed the bowl back onto Astrid's lap where it had been moments ago. Veronica offered her thanks and inspected the chosen beans in her hands for a moment; not noticing Astrid straightening Sirius's collar or paying attention to their whispering few moments later. When she noticed, Remus returning his glance towards her; she smiled over at him gently. Despite his messy hair, the grey complexion and his disheveled robes and altogether appearance. There was just something about him that drew her in. Maybe it was his smile...or his kindness and shyness that made her look past all of that.

Hearing his question and paying attention to his accent; hearing that cute twang to his voice. She just smiled at him warmly. "We moved to London, You're from Lancashire?" Veronica tilted her head slightly, trying to guess where-abouts he may be from. Veronica looked at him with gentle eyes, listening to him. "Yeah, my sisters stayed back in France. They work there, and one of them has a boyfriend she lives with, so neither really wanted to move." she explained, before she held out her hand to Remus. "Want some?" she asked, as she offered some of the flavored beans to him, with a gentle smile.

She then popped one into her mouth. A harsh and rich flavor of Chilli burst into her mouth. Making her cough slightly. "Ahh...hot...hot...hot!" she gasped; her eyes watering slightly and her face bright red.
Peter chuckled at her reaction, smiling. "Let me guess...Chilli?" he asked and Veronica just nodded, gasping for air.

ASTRID

Astrid nodded another swift look over to Remus before she turned back to Sirius. This close, the urge to kiss him was completely overwhelming. Their noses were almost touching, her eyes so close she could have counted the flecks in his dark eyes. He smelt incredible, his thick hair just begging to have her hand lost in it. Her pulse began to quicken, and she bit the corner of her bottom lip as her other hand moved up his arm. All manner of sense and reasoning was gone, she was lost in his eyes and her deep affections for this guy that she wanted nothing more to be lost in his embrace. Astrid’s stare flicked down to his mouth and back up to his eyes, about to move in.

“You are head boy, James Potter!” Came the familiar voice of a very angry Lily Evans. Astrid sighed, laughing a little at their almost kiss before she moved away from Sirius, turning to look at Lily and James. It wasn’t a Sunday without a performance from these two.

“What… I didn’t do anything wrong!” James replied.

“This ridiculous vendetta you have against Slytherin needs to stop!” She replied with a furious tone, and Astrid shook her head and pushed herself to her feet, looking back to Sirius.

“Good chatting with you Black” She said to him with an exasperated sigh and flick of the eyebrows before she headed over to the fiery red head. “All right you two, do we really need the same argument” she said, taking Lily by the arm.

“You need to set an example, James, you’re a head boy!” Lily added once more before the girls turned, Astrid trying to calm her friend down as she made her way up to the dormitory,

Once upstairs, Astrid allowed Lily to rant and rave whilst she readied herself for bed. She left her school clothes at the end of the bed for the elves to clean, and pulled on a pair of pyjamas and thick socks. She wasn’t really listening anymore; instead she was lost in thoughts about Sirius. She sat on her bed combing through her hair, trying to keep herself from getting all giddy. Astrid had always managed to keep her feelings at bay, had always managed to ignore it and just brush off his flirting. But now, it was getting more and more difficult to fight.

The school was littered with girls whose hearts he had broken, and she refused to be another. It was always the same, he wanted them and then once he had them he lost interest. She was sure the same would happen to her, as he was the only girl to turn him down, she would be his ultimate prize. And Astrid just couldn’t deal with the heartache that would bring.

REMUS

“Luckily for me, I have good history with berties” He informed looking at the bowl. Out of his friends, somehow he always managed to end up with decent flavours. Once he had thought that his friends did it on purpose, to ensure that down-on-his-luck Remus would for once get something positive. He looked into the bowl and after a moment’s deliberation he plucked a beige coloured sweet from the mass and popped it into his mouth. He chewed it before grimacing a little, his good luck apparently having come to an end. “Fish” he said as he forced it down before shaking his head. He didn’t mind some fish dishes, but a fish flavoured chewy sweet was not a flavour he wished to indulge in.

The room was then interrupted by the angry tones of Lily Evans, swiftly followed by the defensive voice of James. Remus looked round to his friends and sighed, not laughing as others would. Whilst Remus had no real fondness for those in favour of blood purity, he had never really spoken out in their defence. Like the constant battle between James and Sirius, and Severus Snape. He was sure that was why Dumbledore had made him prefect; in the hopes it would make him calm his friends. It didn’t. But James had calmed down somewhat over the last year, was less aggressive then he used to be, no longer the bullying sort he once had been. So what had caused it this time?

As Astrid took Lily away, Remus looked back to Veronica. “You’ll get used to that between those two” he said to her with an amused chuckle. “And Astrid and Sirius” He added, once more with a laugh at the odd ways of his friends and the girls. He looked to James storming off upstairs and sighed, looking back to Veronica. “I best go check he is all right” He said as he got to his feet. “I’ll see you in the morning” He said to her, perhaps a little more hopeful than he should have sounded. “Night” he added, in an attempt at being a little more cool before he headed up to their shared bedroom where James was furiously kicking his trunk.
