Before Broker of Fortune could even evade the tag game with the most obnoxious and infamous of Deep Ground's hacker scum: A.K.A., Corpse Collector. Someone else had arrived at the Blue City and was trying to control the chaos that had spread everywhere.
This someone was none other than the Cobalt Bruisers' second-in-command, Absinthe Blue. Her real world counterpart had run out of the theater, seeking Maribel when the messages began to spam her interface. Yuuno had no choice but give up on finding the Blue King and -- once more-- take matters at her own hands. And so she did. She run as fast as she could to her room and logged in on Deep Ground.
"Seriously! Out of all the times for Titania-sama to be unreliable and unreachable, it had to be when the world is falling down?" Absinthe muttered under her breath, sulking as she materialized at the Throne Room of the Blue Guild. "..." The Blue Fairy sighed before slapping her own face. "Stand on your own legs, Yuuno.. It's not like you can count with others forever, you know that!" Yuuno spoke some words of encouragement -- or was it assertion?-- to herself.
The yelling outside would cut her internal monologue, though. Absinthe had no choice but to unfurl her wings and fly, streaking like a start to the top of the Blue Castle.
"Hear me, everyone!" Absinthe's voice echoed through all of the city as she used the local chat to broadcast her message. "I don't know what's happening, none of us know. But there are enemies breaking the things we worked so hard to build. We can't let them get away with this. We are the Cobalt Bruisers, the economic heart of Deep Ground. We'll throw this offensive back and then we will make them pay for what they have done... with plenty of interest. Now, shake off this blue and get working, our priority is open a corridor for the infantry, once our tanks roll out, the tide of battle should turn in our favor. Let's Jam!"
Without spending time, Absinthe joined the fray as well, double casting her Arcane Bolts and Azure Busters with wild abandon.
When Eris came back from the multimedia room, where she escorted her older sister to, she decided to take a small break. She went to watch the final moments of the Ebony Stryker's show, if for nothing else, to have a chance of seeing Moon Rider face to face once again. The young German was surprised or, maybe, abashed at Moon Rider's appearance. "So, she's capable of such things too, huh? Though, if that's the best she can do, Moon Rider's really better off as a fighter. However, such awkwardness is really kinda cute or, I think so-"
Eris' mood was greatly sullied by the appearance of Dark Wraith and Arms slave, her expression sunk into a deep frown at having to look at the faces of those pieces of digital trash. Nevertheless, she made a point of being as close to the front of the crowd as she could, which would become a source of contempt in a few moments as her world was almost turned upside down. Chiyo's appearance and speech, the violence and senseless real world bloodshed that ensued after it. This left the young German momentarily dumbfounded, stunned without any idea of what to do.
That is, until a group of three Stryker thugs, most likely Sweepers, took the chance to circle Eris and pressure her against a wall.
"Well, well, look at what we have here, boys. If it's not the Eclipse bitch in flesh and frills-GAAH!." The one who seemed to be the leader said as he placed his hand besides Eris' head. Not for long, really, as soon enough the maid outfit dressed girl would twist said hand before bringing her elbow to the boy's gut.
"You little runt, what do you think you ar-ARGH!!" Seeing their boss be disabled by a girl seemingly way weaker than them, the other two boys -- all of them likely to be older than seveteen, by the way-- jumped at Eris who stepped forward taking the space previously occupied by the leader. Eris swiftly took her apron off and used it to assist on tripping one of the boys over the other, stepping on the back of the knee his knee and twisting his arm as well, all in a seamlessly fluid motion, slightly remniscent of martial arts like Aikido and self-defense methods like Kravmag.
"I don't have the time to deal with the likes of you. I don't owe you any explanation, nor apologies. Stay away from me, both on that game, or out of it, if you don't want this to happen again." Eris said as she took the chance to dash out of the theater, in search of her sister.
"Everything is correct! Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new winner of an all-paid weekend trip to the a genuine hot springs inn for a whole family!" Eins declared dramatically as she extended her hand to give the voucher of the reserves to Masae.
"Would you like to give us any declaration-What's!?" The bunny-dressed hostess was about to pass the microphone to Masae when all hell broke loose around the campus. "They did what?" Eins said when one of the other members of the Computer Research society came and whispered something on her ear.
"I'm sorry, everyone, because of unforeseen circumstances, we will have to end our game here. Please, take care on your way out, it looks like some sort of riot has taken the campus." Was the last of Eins' annoucements before she put the mic away, rigth on time to get Eris' call asking where and how she was in a worried voice.
"I'm alright, Sis. I'm at the Computer Research Society right now..."
"Sure, I can wait for you here..."
"No, there's nothing wrong with me, Sis. By the way, Gunnr and Mom should be ok. If anything happened they would be all over us now..."
"I know, I know... Ok, I'll be waiting for you. Take care, Sis." Was Eins' last reply as went to at least change the heels she was wearing for indoor shoes. As she waited for her sister, the platinum-haired girl wished that nothing serious would happen this time, for real.
--"A long time ago, the gods and the mortals lived in harmony, they inhabited a city known by the name of Aquaria, the Seat of the Gods. Built over a lake that spans as far as the eye can see, close to the mysterious floating lands of Arcadia, Aquaria was a one of kind place of adventure and mystery.
It's within this unique place that this story will be told. Are you ready to take part on it?"
Aquaria was the second most important settlement, the greatest trade hub, known for its extensive book and commodities trading, and the most culturally advanced city of an empire that spammed most of the known world. However, after the a long story, the empire fell to little but scraps, yet Aquaria remained firm. The biggest city-state of remaining world, Aquaria holds a veritable trove of mysteries and adventures within itself.
It's no surprise that many adventurers never leave the comfort of the city walls, after all the city they live is full of areas to be explored. These stories will focus mostly on these adventurers.
World & People
Given its role as a major trade and cultural hub, Aquaria is home to a plethora of people from all backgrounds, races and professions. However, the large majority of the native population is composed of humans and elves, a spiritually powerful race of exclusively feminine beings endowed with fox-like ears and tail. Elves were much longer lived than humans but, given their single gender, they could only produce off spring with humans and that any male coming from such a union will be human; over the time the average life expectancy of an Aquarian born citizen became of around 150 years. Even then, elves can easily reach the early 200's.
With such a long lived populace, it's expected that Aquaria would become a cultural hub and it's. Aside from being known as the City of Water, Aquaria is also known as the City of Books. Literacy is taken seriously in Aquaria and most people have a hobby of reading. In fact, Aquaria's Grand Library is world's biggest library; said to be so vast that no one knows for sure the exact number and content of all the tomes there stored. Expeditions to isolated sectors of the Grand Library are common with adventurers seeking rare and otherwise forgotten lore.
It's not only of literature that Aquarian culture lives. Arts and music are also a major cultural asset. In fact, It's common place to name children after artistic related themes, music in special is very appreciated as a source of names, in honor of one of the city's greatest heroes of times long past, the elven knight Arianna "Aria", also known as the Knight of Gales. Education is also rather high quality. The University of Aquaria, attached to the Grand Library, is perhaps the last center of education of its level on the otherwise savage world, receiving visitors of all places on its Halls of Learning.
When it comes to politics, Aquaria is an advanced place as well. Aquaria is ruled by a council of representatives composed of five thirteen members chosen from the various social classes of the city, each with a decade long non-hereditary term of office and administered by a High Queen that holds the executive powers withing the city. The Queen title is hereditary and the royal family is composed primarily of elves descended of the knights of legend, Arianna and Sedril.
Lastly, but not least, let us not forget that Aquaria is also a city of adventure and of commerce. Everyday its bustling streets and markets get filled with people bargaining all kinds of goods from all places. There's an old saying that goes by: "You can see more of the world staying a day in Aquaria than in a lifetime of travel." In many ways it's not wrong. The city is also bustling with adventurers, who congregate in Aquaria's many adventuring guilds, which are further united under the banner of one of the two major adventurer leagues, the Wind Harpists and the Water Cartographers.
Mystery & Magic
Magic is an arcane force that exists all over the world and permeates every living being. Magic can be used to conjure and manipulate the Greater Elements (Fire, Water, Air or Wind, Earth, Light and Darkness or Shadow). All magic is composed of manipulation and combination of those elements, but given that magic is an expression of the soul of each individual, there are no two completely equal mages. Even if some basic spells can be learned by everyone, all mages have a unique expertise, though it's more likely that those who share blood bounds will have similar expertize.
All living beings (and some non-living ones as well) are capable of magic, but not everyone practices it. In order to perform the mystical arts a strong will to reshape reality to meet one's internal view is needed. All mages are capable of manipulating all of the Greater Elements. However are at their best when dealing with their Elemental Alignment and can't really draw any power from the ones opposite to their alignment.
Like with magic, all beings are born with an Elemental Alignment one of the Greater Elements, rarely will be born someone with two different alignments as long as they aren't opposite to one another. Even more rare are those who practice Spirit Arts, that is, they are bound by a contract to the Spirits --sometimes called fairies-- of the land granting them powers similar in nature to magic but that come from their aptitude to channel their Spirit's power. One can't use both normal magic and Spirit Arts at the same time, having a Spirit contract seals you ability to use normal magic as the Spirit uses their Master's mana to sustain themselves.
When it comes down to it, the main difference between normal mages and Spirit users is that the first use their own mana to power their spells, leading to a burn out sensation and eventually increasing fatigue from prolonged usages of magic. Spirit users channel power from their Spirits, which i turn do channel it from the land itself, meaning that no fatigue is incurred for magic usage, but the Spirits need rest to recharge their energies and while they are dismissed, their users' power is greatly diminished. The only exception to this are the Elves, who can channel magic directly from the land just like Spirits do, meaning that elves never run out of magic power or get tired from spell casting. Lastly, Spirit Users are generally capable of greater feats than normal mages, but are restricted to the elements their Spirits can manipulate.
Aquaria is also a land of mysteries, full of ancient ruins and barely known even for those who live into it. Really a place of boundless possibilities where the limits to one's adventures tends only to be as big as their ambition, or courage.
Appearance: A brief description (around a paragraph), picture (anime only, please), or a combination of both, at your own leisure.
Character Concept: Describe here what/who your character is, in simple words. You can include hints of personality and back story as well, but keep it all to a reasonable size. (one paragraph should be enough)
Combat, Abilities and Skills: What can your character do? How is their favorite combat style/maneuvers/spells? What are they good in? Can they cook, play cards, pick locks or bend steel bars with raw strength? As always keep this short and concise.
Equipment and Inventory: Your character's important possessions. Be reasonable, you don't need to list every single small trinket here, just the most relevant ones, usually those your character can carry around.
Other: Anything not above that you may think that can be important, e.g. a description of any important companions, facts or places. Maybe even a song/other media that inspired you, if you feel like adding it. (Totally optional, by the way)
Sample Post/Introduction: Give us an idea of who your character is (and of your level of writing), writing a snippet about a key turning point on their life or about their day-to-day life. Don't be hesitant to be creative with locations or NPCs but keep it within the realm of the possible (i.e. no Mary Sues/Gary Stus of any type). (max. of three moderate sized paragraphs, or around 2000 characters. Don't do anything too poor but also don't go over this limit, please)
Thanks for reading up to now --If you are reading this I guess I can assume it, right?--, this is a long standing idea for a high fantasy, anime inspired setting that I have, or better, part of said setting.
As you can see what I came up with is more of a scenario than a premade campaign --Any tabletop player would know what I mean by that--, so this setting has the space to accommodate various stories and will get constructed and expanded as that is done.
For the initial adventure I have in mind, I'm looking for a relatively small group (4~8 players) mostly up for a dungeon crawl style game. If that interests you, don't hesitate to drop by and discuss, maybe leave a CS. And if you would rather be interested in other kinds of stories, political intrigue, cloak and dagger, etc., you can leave a suggestion as well. I'm always up for ideas.
"Mysterious disappearances have been happening all through the Aquaria's East Market, during the first hours of the evening and right before the dawn.
Reports say that the last of the victims, the second son of a middle class merchant, has been seen getting dragged to the old city by dark silhouettes.
The City Guard, as well as the father of the victim, are offering a reward for those who can rescue this and possibly the other victims yet alive, or bring the culprit behind such heinous acts to justice.
Registrations to take on this mission must be made at City Guard HQ; only adventurers registered in an official guild will be admitted, bring your certificate.
--Velocchio, Captain of the Guard."
That news slip, which was posted on a good portion of Aquaria's public bulletin boards this slightly cold, early spring morning was what attracted a number of adventurers. For a reason or another, which is left to you, your characters decided to heed the call.
Now, you are standing among a crowd of other adventurers in front of the Guard HQ, an imposing three story building with a well-kept lime stone facade. A life-size sculpture representing the traditional image of Justice, one of which is headless for as long as anyone can recall, stand at each side of the main entrance, to announce to all the purpose of the building. The streets behind are as bustling as ever, with the movement of both people and goods. Nothing short of a normal Aquarian day.
Either way, this is where our adventure begins. So, what do you do now?
Meh, maybe not so much enthusiasm was needed after all. At least that wasn't the first thing on the mind of a certain Juno Eclipse who'd much rather preferred to spend the time before the meteor shower that was the talk of the whole Region at a seaside restaurant filling herself at the all you can buffet, along with her travel partners.
As was expected, Wobby was taking the role of Juno's butler, holding her plate while the girl stuffed it full with all manner of foodstuff, especially the house specialty, fresh sea food. "Nom, nom, nom..." The sound of Juno's runaway chewing filled the air, occasionally being cut by Wobby's chewing as Juno fed him with some treat or other.
On a table not very far from the purple-haired trainer, Abra rested asleep as is expected of him, resting over Juno's traveling gear. Only ever once in a while did the fox like psychic Pokemon move a hand minutely to drag one of the berries that Juno placed before him inside his mouth. Even this looked more like reflex than a conscious effort though.
Given that there was no space on the inside of the restaurant for a bull, Tauros was on the outside, chewing at a big stack of fresh veggies and sweet stuffs, like beets, carrots and berries, that Juno got for him, inside of an area exclusive for large Pokemon. If no one poked (poked, hah!) him the wrong way, Tauros wouldn't cause trouble for the time being... probably.
"Alright, alright, so things are finally getting hot. I didn't expect the three of you to call a card at the same time. Let us see what we have here." Hohenheim's said as he drew the card one by one, on the order which they were requested. First, called by the Angels and aimed at the Machina: Judgement. Second, called by the Machina and aimed at the Angels: The Lovers. Third, called by the Demons and aimed at themselves The Empress.
"Well, first of everything, let me say something. You bunch of Heavenly Cocks are really lucky bastards, maybe it's because of the Year of the Rooster? Well, who cares? The thing is that the Machina maybe just have kissed the challenge goodbye here and now because of what you called. Let me explain these cards, but first..." Hohenheim did her trade mark finger snap as the elevator lobby got flooded by a blinding golden light, that most of the Angels there would know by this time, a burning holy light before which no darkness could stand. Only one being on the whole of the Nexus had such a power and presence. "Let's call your funeral song shall we, because there's no way in Hell you'll survive that one." As the Alchemist clapped her hands once, a melody began to sound, a song proper for an epic finale and that's wh-
"Are you done already, Alchemist of Genesis? I came here to do your biding as ordered by my Lord however, I do not have the least intent of being part of your entertainment. If possible I would like to return to my duties as fast as possible." A voice, austere and powerful said as the light dissipated, revealing none but Iona hovering above the gates, glancing down with her paradoxically cold, yet compassionate eyes at those bellow her. "It's of my understanding that I was called to pass judgment at those of the Machina of Mankind. Be as it may, then. It's time."
As Iona pointed one of her blades forward, unbreakable chains of pure, golden holy light bound all of the Machina in tight coils, before lifting them in the air right in front of the dark archangel. As is usual, Iona rarely brandishes her weapons against anyone. Instead, she said. "From this moment forward, you are under my jurisdiction. Unless you can prove your own innocence of any crimes or sin in your whole existence or take me down in combat, I will keep you under custody while the current battle is being held. Any interference, or attempt at resistance that is not able to defeat me, will be met with imprisonment. Is that clear?"
"Oh, well, yeah. There goes one third of the audience. Good luck trying to plead anything with her, you'll need it." Hohenheim chuckled darkly, before coughing. "Let us continue the descriptions, then. Next is The Lovers affecting the Angels. You'll find something interesting now, your deepest desires, the thing you want the most on this world before you. Go ahead and grab it... but, be aware of consequences. Nothing on this world comes for free, after all. Hahaha!"
"Lastly, it's time to answer the Demons' call but first..." Hohenheim made a momentary pause during which her gaze rested on Henry. She rolled a muzzle (summoned out of thin air) in her right hand as she stared at the haughty yet unwise Demon. "Raise your voice to me again and I'll shut that trap of yours. I'll not warn this to any of you again, am I being clear?" The Alchemist's voice was colder and lower than her usual self, making it quite clear this was the last time she was going to warm anyone about disrespecting her.
"Either way, you horny bastards got The Empress, the keeper of the Order and the status quo. You'll be restored to the state you were on the beginning of the beginning of this challenge. Any wounds, status effects and even restore the power you wasted." Hohenheim said as she effectively rewinded the time for the Demons with a snap of her fingers, healing them of all wounds and restoring their powers to the maximum once more.
Thirteen Children of all ages suddenly find that they were transported to a world known as Eden and given strange powers. Will they be able to find a way back home while trying to survive against the sinister Shadows and catering to the whims of the mysterious being self entitled the Game Master?
O V E R V I E W
Without any explanation as to why and how, a group of children of any age between 10 and 17 found themselves waking up on the floor of what a derelict office building, partially overgrown by vegetation. A mysterious being, who manifests only in the form of a cute little critter, calling itself the Game Master was there to greet them and tell that they were chosen to take part in a survival game (with the fate of the whole earth at stake) on the world known as Eden (which looks suspiciously like post apocalyptic Tokyo where nature took back what men stole, in spades).
The objective of the game? To survive while trying to take down the mysterious Shadows while gathering the clues set by the Game Master as their only hope to get back home. To help with this task, each child was given ESP powers, but little to no instruction about how to use them. If this will be enough for the task and what other mysteries would be unfolded was yet to be seen.
