It seems like that soon I'll have enough money to by my own personal laptop instead of having to use a school-provided one. I would get excited but now I'm left in a bit of a pickle. I don't know much about computers much less laptops >_>

So, would anyone happen to know of a relatively cheap laptop that I can count on for both work and gaming?

Laptops are only really worth it if you regularly need a computer when not at home, and a smartphone won't do the trick. This is because they will always perform poorly compared to desktops of the same value. Another issue with laptops is that they don't fix nearly as easily as desktops do.

So that would be my advice. Really think about whether or not you need a laptop specifically, or just a computer in general. If you go with desktop, best thing to do is buy a kit from Newegg or some such website and put that mofo together your own self.

If you need a laptop, gaming laptops are going to run you quite a bit of money. Find out what specs you need and get a laptop with only just those specs and not much more. If you can, wait until the pre-summer sales get rolling.

I'd personally recommend Dell laptops.

I'm very picky when it comes to laptops and had two HP laptops at different points these past years and they were semi-average. For gaming, it was non-existent.

The specific Dell laptops I've purchased are the Dell Inspiron models which are nice because it can handle light gaming because of the Radeon R4 Graphics and since I love older games like the first few Fallout games and more, it'll run as smooth as baby oil and butter combined.

In general, all Dell laptops and desktops (like the one I have) is fantastic and so worth it; they can be a little pricey but very good. Beautiful in design, very organized, and business-like even if you have the most basic one.

If you're only looking at laptops for gaming, you'll want to create a budget and save up because they are very expensive and I'm not just talking about Alienware, which goes from $800 to $1,000 and more, but others too.

I need a laptop because I need mobility and if I could stuff a desktop in my bag and carry it around while not weighing like a sack of dead bricks of brick I would.

I'm just trying to find a balance and asking for advice since I'm somewhat clueless to computer magiks. The most intensive thing I'd want would be a newer Fallout or Skyrim game (which now that I think about it sounds like I'm asking for a lot >_>).

Namely, I just want something I can mod with. I hath been but a console peasant all my life and now I seek to attain glory and enlightenment from the PC master race nobility! \[+]/

I hear ya!

Well, my best friend has both those games and they run amazingly and I remember asking him the model and he said it was an ASUS G750 because I actually want one too. He's had the thing for almost two years and it still does an amazing job.

Go for it!

>Becomes poorbuddies ;-;

In other news, your suggestion did help, found a ASUS G750 which while still costly is more reasonable for what it says it can do and by its reviews. Might still ask someone to check it out since I still know jack all about comps ;^;

Yeah, it was the best I could personally do so I hope that a little bit of research on those laptops will help and of course, other people commenting on what they think because I know just a smidge.

If you want to be poor buddies again, I'm available at all hours in my hut of tree branches. ;-;

Anyways, can I have a more educated opinion of the ASUS G750?

Since I don't own it myself, I can't really make one but just a personal one and including my friend's too but if you look at the reviews online, especially Amazon, it's pretty darn positive.

Everyone's asking the best questions before buying it too and I think most of them will help.

It includes the features of the laptop too.

Bump for other opinions.

Good luck!

I recommend an HP, if you aren't a gamer I have an HP laptop myself that I use constantly and have had it for over 3 years now. If you are looking for a mix of both a tablet/laptop http://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-envy-2-in-1-15-6-touch-screen-laptop-intel-core-m-8gb-memory-516gb-hybrid-hard-drive-natural-silver/9247032.p?id=1219405779408&skuId=9247032 I would recommend if you are a college student and you are constantly on the move I recommend this.

I like Toshiba. I have a Satellite model (17" screen bby), and it's 4 years old and its processing power is...less than impressive by today's standards. BUT it can run Skyrim or Fallout: New Vegas as well as older games that require as much power. I can also play online games like League or Dota 2 or Vindictus if I'm not a graphics-whore lol. It cannot run newer games (such as Fallout 4), but when I DO upgrade, it'll be another Toshiba tbh. However, I won't be upgrading for at least another year due to other financial obligations and I'm confident this laptop can last until 2017. That'll be 5 years of use out of a laptop!! And it still runs very well.

If you're a hardcore gamer (I'm not because it's so expensive lol), I'd recommend something from here (I've pre-selected your options for gaming AND products with a review of at least 4/5 stars). This'll cost ya quite a bit, though. The cheapest tend to go for about $900 and going cheap when technology is moving so fast isn't really worth it. And since $1000 is out of your price range, I'd recommend the following:

1) Stick with your school laptop for a little while longer and save up or;

2) Go cheap for now, but start saving for something better right after. If you keep the cheaper laptop in good condition, you could sell it to contribute to a nicer one.
