Emi's blood ran cold, her ears twitching in reaction to the unknown voice. She was still standing near the entrance, but it was clear that the situation had taken a worrying turn, with the young girl's life in danger. Gritting her teeth, the operative was trying to think of a solution that ended with the girl safe, and the demon dead. Though as her nails were digging into her palms, the ever-so-unwelcome voice of Shirokami rang in her mind. She wanted to dismiss what was said out of habit, but what her partner had to say was simple logic.

Team effort, remember~?

The playful tone irked Emi, but it at least allowed her to take stock of the situation before her. Kaeru had picked up on what the demon had said, a statement that should not have flown over her head like it so nearly did. Emi wouldn't have opted for seemingly trying to antagonise the demon, but this was hardly the time for reprimands, and besides, if this cowardly creature was hiding from a far stronger monster, then even if they dispatched it...

She would have to trust in her experienced colleagues to try and extract any pertinent information they could, though even if they couldn't, she was certain they could save the girl somehow. In the meantime, Emi took a deep breathe, and returned her attention to the mall area outside the shop. Her fragile clones were still cautiously patrolling the area, on the lookout for any suspicious movement. If there was a larger threat, hopefully it wouldn't prove to be as sneaky as the specimen before them. Though even if it tried to take out one of her tailed clones stealthily, she would still be alerted to the oncoming threat. That would have to suffice for now.
I should probably note my interest here, too. I guess I'm leaning towards Roxas, but I'll have to see if there's anyone else I'd like to play.

With the discovery of a living girl in the shop, Emi breathed a sigh of relief. It was good that they'd found someone alive, especially after the mess they found outside. Eliminating the nearby demon was a top priority, as dictated by their superiors, but escorting the girl to safety would be a massive help for the team - if not for morale, then at least so they could engage with the knowledge that there wasn't a civilian in the crossfire.

Emi's nails dug into her palms as she thought of that.

"...It... might be best to go with Honda-san's suggestion," Emi offered her own opinion. It was natural that everyone wanted to guide the child to safety, but short of the entire group walking her back, she didn't like the idea of any one of them being along for even a second. Fighting a devil was virtually impossible alone, never mind when protecting a non-combatant at the same time. IT worried Emi that her clones hadn't detected anything as of yet, too.

And frankly, if anyone was to be appointed a potential target, Emi would rather it be Andrea. As long as that demon ensured the girl's safety, she could act as a beacon to draw any potential attacks away from the rest of the group. And while the demon's strength was a constant source of worry, Emi could hardly deny that Andrea was easily capable of shielding someone from harm. The safest place for anyone would ironically be at the side of that demon. Though ideally, there wouldn't be an attack upon them to begin with, she feared that the young girl had probably witnessed enough horror today.

Emi, in the midst of awkwardly trying to deny the factual cuteness, had her demeanour change, much like the rest of the group upon the sight of blood. She didn't like to claim she was used to such a sight, but it was a morbid reminder of the dangers these demons posed. Not every sortie could result in zero casualties, and as much as Emi liked to believe that whoever was attacked was somehow still alive... it was best not to pin their hopes on that.

Her ears twitched at the sound of something falling from inside one of the shops, putting her on high alert. Was it a demon? She'd expect them to be a lot more aggressive and unwilling to just hide, maybe it was a civilian accidentally brushing against something? gh, she should've been paying more attention, instead of focusing on the blood...

Kaida took the initiative in advancing, with Rika seeming rather agitated as she followed. Not that Emi didn't disagree with her sentiment, but Kaida was an experienced agent, she was sure that Kaida was fully prepared to fend off a possible attack. With Rika and Kaeru there as well, not even a Devil could hope to surprise them, right? Still, Emi was uneasy. Would a Devil-class even bother with hiding? Would something that powerful feel the need to skulk in the shadows? What was the best way to proceed from here?

After a brief moment of consideration, Emi made her decision, summoning her two clones with a puff of blue, mystical smoke. Wordlessly, they both fanned out from the way they came, keeping an eye on their surroundings, just in case. With any luck, they could serve as a diversion to attract potential attackers, alerting the group just in case her worst fears were realised. After all, she didn't like the idea of leaving Akira with just her own demon as protection.

"Stay alert," Emi advised, now approaching the sports shop. Fox flames danced upon her fingertips as she prepared for the worst.

One could never claim that Emi was ever in a good mood when the alarms blared, but when a Devil-class was the source of danger, it noticeably soured the operative's expression. Arms crossed, foot tapping the floor of their transport, she was remarkably quiet as she tried to prepare herself mentally. A small part of her always wondered, as impossible as it could be, if the devil-class that showed up was that one. It wasn't like Emi planned to fight it and get her revenge or anything, but...

Letting out a sigh, Emi did her best to abandon that train of thought. It wasn't often that a monster of this calibre showed up, and each time, it felt like she was worrying herself into incompetency for no reason. Regardless of the demon, she was part of the DDF, and as such, she had a role to play. Personal feelings would have to come second.

With their arrival, Emi stepped out with her colleagues, giving the surrounding area a quick glance. There were still far too many people for her liking, and as much as she'd prefer to guide these people to a much safer distance... there was only so much a small group of combatants could do to lead people away, especially when they also had to be alert for any potential attacks. On top of that, they had their orders to focus on the demon, so they would just have to rely on the emergency serv-

Emi blinked, jolted out of her pondering by Rika's sudden yelling. It... seemed effective enough to allow them easy passage through the remaining crowd, at least. Come to think of it, Rika was proving herself to be quite the dedicated newbie; it felt like every time Emi crossed paths with her, she was training or studying. It was definitely admirable and worthy of praise, especially compared to...

"...Save the cutesie routine until after we conclude the mission, please," she berated the magical duo, stepping past them briskly. Initiating her own transformation, completely lacking in flair and grandeur, it at least helped to hide the momentary smile crossing her lips within the brief flash of light. Sure, it was completely inappropriate to act so playful and unprofessional in this situation, but that didn't mean she couldn't appreciate the cuteness put on display. It helped keep her mind out of the pessimism pit, at any rate. With her fluffy ears and tail manifested, she glanced over her shoulder, businesslike as usual, "Remember, this is a devil-class opponent. We cannot fight it alone, under any circumstance, so stay in formation at all times, got it?"

This had to be the first time that being called mean had struck Emi's heart with critical damage, frozen in shock as Nyoko leapt away and returned to Kaeru's arms. Normally, she could handle being called mean, but she never wanted to be mean to a cute little fluff! Oh no, if the little raiju hated her, how was she supposed to cope with that?! It was even sticking out its tongue at her, that could only possiblly translate to "you're a horrible person and only cute people can pet me", right?!.

So depressed over this self-proclaimed revelation, Emi couldn't even find it in herself to berate Kaeru for daring to suggest that reports could be put off for any non-essential reason, simply slumping in her seat with glazed eyes, staring at her desk as she wallowed in despair over her foolishness. If only she had just given Nyoko those pets she was seeking, but alas, she was surely denied that piece of cuteness heaven forever...

Incidentally, the beautiful, fluffy being that Emi did her best to ignore was finding her whole ordeal hilarious, but even Shirokami knew better than to rub salt in the wound. Instead, she simply suggested that Emi stop ignoring her colleagues, lest they all follow Nyoko's example. Jolted back to reality by that unapealling scenario, Emi composed herself as best she could. Let's see, fun things to do after work? Well, aside from shopping for plushies or visiting cat cafes, Emi couldn't think of anything that would be considered fun. After all, she had to remain alert at all times, even during her time off, just in case. It left precious little time for fun.

"...If you're looking to have fun, it'd be best to get your paperwork done first, lest it end up not sone at all," Emi contributed ever-so-helpfully. With Rika noting she had already gotten her own report written up, Emi gave an approving nod, rising to her feet, "see? It's not that hard to get done, and I can take care of everything that doesn't require your personal input anyway, so..."

Ah, she was about to indulge in another lecture, wasn't she? Forcing herself to stop, Emi sighed, and after a moment's silence, knelt down to begin picking up the discarded stationery. She continued, "By the way, er, putting aside what you need to improve on, you did well today," Emi mumbled awkwardly, not exactly used to giving praise - not without a massive heaping of constructive criticism. But hey, new recruits get one freebie, so unless they planned to hide behind a ton of plushie bribes for every mission, they'd best not get used to that.

Emi shot Kaida a look that was equal parts disapproval and fluster. Those familiar with Emi could probably recognise she wanted to launch into her usual spiel about fooling around on the job, but the presence of an adorable kitty, and its' (equally adorable) owner was throwing her for a loop. It took a great deal of willpower for Emi to regain her composure, clearing ehr throat and hoping she wasn't blushing too noticeably when she replied to Kaeru, "a-as you can see, I'm properly recording everything we... did..."

Her eyes happened to flicker towards Nyoko, who had not only planted herself onto the keyboard, but was practically offering her fluffy belly. The walls that Emi had constructed around her heart were quickly crumbling before such an onslalught of cute, the killjoy visibly trembling with effort to not surrender to Nyoko's charms. Was this a conspiracy or something?! Akira was already cute enough, then she'd met Shiro and had to deal with that bundle of cute showing her lovely face from time to time, and now... gah, there was a reason Emi kept all her plush toys at home! This was far too distracting!

"...Could... could you ask your partner to..." Emi attempted to maintain a calm state of mind and ask Kaeru to move Nyoko away from her PC, but then seeing Akira lightly interact with Nyoko brought forth a fresh wave of cuteness appreciation... and a hint of jealousy within Emi, having to deal with the internal war of 'no time for play, only work', and 'oh god I need to pet her now'. This was manifested ainly with a strange, rarely-seen expression on Emi's face. One of pain, delight, heartbreak and joy.

The resident buzzkill sat at her desk, letting out a loud sigh. She really was letting her awkwardness get the better of her. Hopefully a rousing session of report-writing would dull her mind enough that she could return to just being a grump. Better to be that, than wallowing in frustration over personal issues, after all.

Still, even with the document open on screen, she wasn't making any moves to write, merely staring at the template, lost in thought. Arms folded, leaning back in her chair, the young woman was oblivious to anyone approaching, until the sparking kitten leapt onto her desk, throwing a few printouts in dissaray, and scattering a container of pens to the floor. Letting out a gasp of surprise, Emi was brought back into reality, blinking in surprise as she stared at the cat... thing. Wasn't this Kaeru's contracted partner?

"...And just what're you doing here, huh?" Emi asked, the corners of her lips curling slightly, "hate to tell ya, but I'm not the playful type."

She had no idea if the raiju could understand her, but she couldn't help but treat the little fluffball like any other cat she would come across in the street. ...Or one of her kitty plushies, for that matter. Raising a hand, she slowly, cautiously inched it towards the kitty. The risk of static electricity was totally worth getting to pet this cute little thing at least once, though she sudden;y froze, upon realising that Kaeru and Kaida had just entered the office, quickly snapping her hand back beneath the desk, cheeks colouring slightly.

It was fortunate that Emi had not saw fit to break down any and all actions she had deemed unacceptable for the mission - even if she had misgivings about Ayako's clearly excessive admonishment of the cat... Kaeru, it was admonishment for recklessness all the same. No need to pile on them right now. Besides, she was still mulling over her own weaknesses to bring anyone else down for the moment.

When they alighted back at HQ, the irritable young woman silently made her way back to the office. She might as well get the official write-up for the mission done, lord knows she was the only one willing to get it over with immediately. She came to an awkward stop with a conflicted look on her face, realising she hadn't even given her own words of praise to the group for a job well done. She glanced over her shoulder, but felt it would be too awkward to shuffle back and give words that would probably sound insincere from someone like her. Well, they'd probably have to deploy again soon enough, she can give double the praise next time, right?

Emi had come to a halt when she saw Andrea dispatch of the demon at last, after the impressive combination attack that had lit up their little battlefield. Well, that was about as good as an outcome as she could ultimately hope for, with everyone currently lacking in serious injury, though they'd best get away from the struggling infrastructure before it gave way entirely.

Of course, being rewarded with Shiro's applause was a wonderful thing, too. It pained Emi's heart to be unable to see it in person, but just imagining the expressionless doll clapping for them was enough to elate the fox's spirits.

You did so well~ Came the unwelcome praise of her contracted partner. Ugh, like she needed to listen to any faults in her performance, as if Emi wasn't painfully aware of her weakness, already. The new starts had, quite frankly, performed extremely well for their first go around. Emi could lecture them for any and all errors they may have made (Kaeru should count himself fortunate Emi had not personally witnessed his moves, not even his cuteness could have fully shielded him from her righteous lectures), but really, it was clear they did far more than she.

With those assumptions made of Shirokami's words, Emi let out a weary sigh. She'd just focus on writing up a report once they got back and were debriefed, that would help her get over her frustrations. Probably. Though as she was about to return, she had to flatten herself against the damaged wall to avoid Natsumi's dash, carrying the transformed Kaeru with her. With that unsteady flight, and the less than elegant landing, Emi sure had plenty to comment on as she made her way out. Her own possession fading away, returning that brilliant, white hair to its usual black, the fluffy tail and ears disappearing.
