Sorry for disappearing for a while, I've been busy at a new job and it took me longer than usual to think of a suitable post.
Back in her room, Kelsey grit her teeth. She didn't scowl; she'd trained herself out of that a long time ago. The feeling still had to go somewhere, though, and she felt her scalp crawl unpleasantly. Luckily for her, she'd learned to hide that too. Was her act rusty? She clenched her fists, slightly surprised at how angry this idea made her. It was based on the people she'd despised, but she'd worked on it until no one at her high school could see the difference. She held on to the shadows in her room as she worked on an assignment. She'd been so irritated when she got back that she'd used her power, flinging her bag onto her table and pulling out her chair through the shadows and darkness present. At least she knew the girl had powers based on what she'd said, though Kelsey wasn't sure what they were. As she thought, she idly pulled at some of the shadows, making them solid. They'd gotten off on the wrong foot. It happened. She didn't have to go to work until tomorrow, so for now she'd just finish up this assignment and maybe go practice her powers outdoors afterwards. Ten minutes later, Kelsey stood up, extended her power outwards and headed out her room towards the lift, then remembered it wouldn't be working. *Oh well.* She'd barely taken a few steps in the other direction when a new shadow overlapped her other ones. Kelsey slowed down and extended her power into it like pouring water into a glass, trying to see its shape using the form her power took. A girl, about the same height and build as her. The shadow turned right and disappeared. Into the room of that girl who'd brushed her off. Just out of her range. Kelsey hesitated for a moment longer, then turned around and went back down the hallway. "...Maybe if I try it with opium," that girl was saying. *Seriously?* Kelsey concentrated and the shadows in the room popped into her awareness, growing more numerous as she neared the open doorway and her power expanded into more of the shadows there. "Have you ever tried opium?" She continued. "I was hoping it would relax me enough to expand my... power?" Her voice sounded excitedly deranged now and Kelsey sympathised almost despite herself. "I have a fucking power. Hahaha this is fucking crazy. I want more!" "That makes two of us," Kelsey called as she reached the doorway. At the same time, she pulled all the biggest shadows in the room upwards and parts of them rose from the floor, smoothly blending from 2D shapes into 3D blobs and tendrils. "Mind if I join you guys?"
The first thing Abigail noticed was that she'd landed on her front. She could taste blood in her mouth and her tongue hurt, though it seemed to be in one piece as far as she could tell. She could feel all her limbs, though she almost wished she didn't; there was a dull throbbing pain throughout her arms and legs and *something* in her back felt broken, though she could move her legs fine. Although they screamed in protest, she managed to sit up and look around. Everyone else was there, but what about Myles and Mimi? Savrina called her name in front of her- did her ears just *move?*. "I'm here Sav," she called as she moved her hands to her head. "What's going on?" Her ears had moved, all right. They had moved to the top of her head. And they felt different too, cone-shaped... *Sav had thrown a Halloween party. They'd shown up in costume.* She looked down at herself. Her hands had been replaced with paws covered in black fur. Claws extended almost as soon as she wondered if she could, and retracted when she willed them to. If she was right about what had happened, she probably had a tail now, likely broken from the fall, but that would be it. The rest of her looked human as far as she could tell, so she wasn't ruling that theory out. "Savrina?" Miriam called. Abigail concentrated and her ears rotated towards the sound. She was somewhere beyond the fog, to Abigail's left. She was coughing a lot, and Abigail frowned. An injury from the fall? She really hoped not. "Over here, Savrina! I need your help, dear! Thank God someone else is awake... Don't freak out, but my leg broke off when I landed, and I don't think I'll be going very far with just the one. Could you, um... Poke around a little? I'm sure it hasn't gotten far. Is anyone else awake?" Abigail stiffened. Miriam had come as a doll, and not one of those soft ones either. "I'm awake!" She yelled in her direction. She almost asked if Miriam was alright but stopped herself. "I'll help look for your leg." She set off in the direction Miriam's voice had come from, hoping to find her leg somewhere nearby.
Abigail screamed. First Myles had somehow gone missing from under the bed, then Sav got dragged under by *something*... Before she could think of retreating from the bed some kind of black hole force activated and dragged everyone in the room towards it. And then there was nothing beneath her but air and she was falling... For what felt like the first time in her life, she wished there would be water beneath her. An ocean, or a lake, or *something*, just so long as it was deep enough so she wouldn't be smashed against the ground. Even drowning would be better than *that*- No, she couldn't lie to herself. Nothing was worse than drowning and there was no way she'd get out of this alive. Either she'd break every bone in her body or she'd struggle to stay afloat before inevitably sinking under, the air forced out of her lungs as water rushed in... She had just enough time to squeeze her eyes shut and brace herself before hitting the ground.
The shadows receded to their proper places and Kelsey felt vaguely dissatisfied. Sure, the fire had been put out and it looked pretty impressive (at least to her), but... that hadn't really been much, now that she thought about it. The explosions and fire had been dangerous, but the amount of destruction they could cause was amazing as they burnt through walls and scorched metal. She didn't think her shadows could do anything like that. Part of her wanted to get started on trying anyway, but really, she was much more curious about what she'd seen a few seconds earlier. The girl had been too calm. She'd walked with far too much confidence even for an action-movie star, and they didn't even exist in real life. It was almost as though she knew exactly where the fire would be and simply stepped out of the way... Could that girl have *controlled* it? Anything seemed possible after what Kelsey had seen today. After all, she already knew for a fact that she wasn't the only one who could do these kinds of things. Why not one more? With those thoughts in mind, she crossed to the door the girl had gone through in a few quick strides. Luckily for her it was unlocked and she flung it open, peering inside. The girl was standing at a counter piled with most of the contents of the nearby fridge, shoveling food in her mouth like she hadn't eaten in weeks. She held a phone in her free hand and was staring at it as though willing someone on the other end to pick up. Two years ago a few of the stoners at her school had invited themselves to Laura's birthday party for no obvious reason besides being high and afflicted with a severe case of the munchies. They'd polished off several trays of finger food and started on the birthday cake before she and Nicolette managed to get rid of them. Kelsey had wondered how they managed to eat so much, but now it looked like they had a contender. The act was almost second nature to her at this point. "Oh my *god!*" she yelled. "Weren't you in that explosion earlier? Are you sure you're okay?" She looked fine as far as Kelsey could tell, but it didn't hurt to make sure and it was a reasonable response to what she'd just seen. At the same time, she felt outwards for the nearest patches of shadow; there'd been far too many explosions today already.
Abigail paled as Miriam whispered in her ear. Kiss Mercy? But she didn't see her in *that* way! And now Myles was making kissy noises, which definitely wasn't helping. Then again, she'd hoped for something fun, hadn't she? Sav entered at that moment and Abigail sighed in relief. She had food; maybe she could prepare herself while the others were distracted. She was tossing snacks to them now, and Abigail was just about to grab a packet of crackers when Sav tossed a beer can at Myles. Before she could call out a warning to him, it hit him square in the face. Just before he slumped to the floor, she glimpsed blood on his nose and her eyes widened. *"THAT HURT SAV"* Myles yelled as he flailed while holding his nose, which caused him to roll all the way under the bed, hitting his head on the bed frame with a loud *thunk*. Abigail winced. That had to hurt. She got on her hands and knees and crawled towards the bed, peering under it. It was nearly pitch-black there; she wasn't sure exactly where he was. "Myles?" She called out. "Are you okay?"
Abigail cheered as Mercy downed the last of the vodka. She'd been doubtful at first; vodka was a strong drink and the glass was rather big. Part of her hoped that Mercy would refuse the dare, but she knew that her best friend would never do such a thing. Besides, they were all friends here, so it wasn't like she was in danger or anything. Plus, finishing all that in one go was pretty impressive. *"Ha! I won that dare!"* Mercy yelled. *"I'm going now before I win all the bets."* She stumbled off as she said this, and Abigail leaned forward worriedly, but she seemed to be fine. Mercy always looked out for her normally, and she felt like she should return the favour. That was what friends did, right? Since Homer had left earlier, it was Abigail's turn next. Doing a dare might be fun, but truth would be easier... The others were looking at her now, and she quickly made her decision. "I'll do a dare," she said before she could change her mind. She smiled brightly. "So, what've you got for me?"
The first thing Kelsey noticed when she stepped out of her dorm was the inferno which had apparently engulfed the elevator while she was exploring her power; even from here, the heat was noticeable. The next thing that caught her attention was the blonde girl striding confidently down the hallway like she was utterly unconcerned with the raging fire behind her. As Kelsey watched, the flames exploded outwards towards the girl, but her stride remained unbroken as she reached a door, opened it and went in, closing it behind her. Right at that moment, the sprinklers turned on. "*Shit!*" Kelsey yelled, bringing her arms up to her head in a futile attempt to shield herself. Another shout came from further down the hallway; it looked like she wasn't the only one caught off-guard. Kelsey glared at the spot where the girl had entered her room. Sauntering away from a fiery explosion in a building completely unharmed and unsoaked by the sprinklers? *When did I end up in an action movie?* This was the second time a fire had happened today, after all. That had to be some kind of statistical fluke... A thought occurred to her. How much of the fire could she put out this time? Kelsey pushed at every shadow she could sense and they flowed down the hallway, her own among them. They blanketed the fires she could see from where she was and retreated after a few seconds, leaving several isolated fires which were quickly being put out by the sprinklers.
[Kelsey](http://best-wallpaper.net/wallpaper/2560x1600/1307/Beautiful-brown-hair-girl-in-the-forest_2560x1600.jpg) *"Interesting."* Name: Kelsey Charlotte Dales Nickname: N/A Age: 18 Gender: Female Height: 5'7" Weight: 120 lbs Ethnicity: Caucasian Sexuality: Asexual Relationship Status: Single Political Affiliation: None Religion: Agnostic Drugs of Choice: None so far, but would try LSD given the chance. Alcoholic Preference: Would prefer not to. Favorite Food: Strawberry ice cream Major: Undecided Clubs: None yet, but wants to join the drama club Year: Freshman Roommates: Arina Occupation: Waitress at one of the campus cafes. Talents/Skills: Acting, dancing, reading people, conversation, dodgeball Likes: Watching Netflix, shopping, pop music, dancing Dislikes: liars, gossipers, hypocrites, insects, spicy food, messy surroundings Personality: Kelsey is very cynical and distrustful but hides it behind a "airhead" persona. She is easily bored but also easily distracted; the best way to hold her attention is with games and contests. In fact, she sees most of life as a game, but understands that some games have very serious consequences. She will not hesistate to stop gossipers if they do that around her, but she utterly despises people who do it to their friends. History: Kelsey is from New York City and attended some of the most exclusive private schools in the area. For most of elementary and middle school she was known as a quiet girl with excellent grades, but in high school she blossomed and ended up friends with the two most popular girls in her grade. However, they took turns freezing her out and made her act as a middleman in their all too frequent feuds. They were much worse to the other students though, so she stayed, not wanting to become a target. Eventually graduation night arrived and her "friends" took advantage of her parents' absence on a business trip to throw a party at her house. This turned out to be the last straw for several reasons, and she deliberately applied to a college which was out of state and not on any of their lists of schools to get away from them.
