Common Dragons:

Common Wind Galeclaw
One of the smallest common dragons, as long as a horse but significantly lower to the ground, the Galeclaw has four short legs with massive talons, and two sets of feathered wings, with the front wings being larger than the back. The tail is fairly long and has feathers on the end, used for directional adjustments. The Galeclaws are dual colored, with a base color that is usually quite pale or white, and then yellow, gold, or brown highlights, on the outsides of legs, the back, the top of the tail, and the edges of the wings. Its eyes are a wide variety of colors, but are always very vivid.

It has a short neck that leads to a long, round face and nose, and four sets of horns, eight in total. The two largest stick straight up, while the two smallest rest just inside and forward of the two largest. The other four horns run down the back of the face, larger on top smaller on bottom. It has small horns above its eye ridge, and short, sharp teeth. Most of its scales are small and fine, but the secondary color is always larger plate scales that serve as protection.

On top of a fire-spray breath attack, the Galeclaw is also able to use its giant wings to create massive wind storms which can unbalance lighter flying dragons.

Common Earth Pebbleback

One of the few dragons that is just as swift on the ground as in the air, the Pebbleback rests on two large, powerful, t-rex like back legs. While it does possess front legs, these are small and light, used for quick, grabbing attacks. The rest of its body is fairly long, with wide bat-like wings that give it the power to lift straight up off the ground, and a massive tail that acts as its most effective weapon. It is covered in very large scales which are incredibly strong, making it seem like it has rocks all over its hide. Pebbleback scales are either brown or grey, as are their eyes.

Along with long talons and the whip-like tail, Pebblebacks have a number of spines all over their body, including at the tips of their bat-like wings, on their knees and elbows, and all over their face, which makes head-ramming a surprisingly effective attack. Compared to most other dragons the Pebbleback has a very flat face, with little to no obvious muzzle in front of its eyes. It has very heavy eye ridges, which are covered in small horns towards the front of the face and larger horns to the back. It also has small horns on its jaw, and along the bottom of its short neck. Curling back from behind its head the Pebbleback has two massive, demon-like horns, which are mostly for decoration and mating, but also serve to protect its neck from attack.

The Pebbleback is able to temporarily ingest rocks to create a molten slag that will remain hot many minutes after it is released, but has no other real breath attack, which is why it is so heavily armed physically.

Common Fire Flamescale

Named for its bright color rather than any ability to set itself on fire, the Flamescale is perhaps one of the most “traditional” looking dragons, with four relatively long legs, a more narrow chest, a long neck with a well-shaped head, and large, bat-like wings. However, all Flamescales have a fur-like substance that looks like thick tendrils of fur which runs down their neck, back, and along their tail. Flamescales are always red or red-orange, although the fur can range in shades. Their eyes are usually bright yellow.

The Flamescale has a very traditional face with a long, smooth nose, two horns from behind its eyes, and some spines coming down off of its jawbone.

THe Flamescale is capable of a devastating fire blasts and is somewhat immune to most heat-based attacks.

Common Water Wavecrest

The Wavecrest has a long, almost snakelike body, twice as long as most horses, with four legs that are low to the ground, a long tail that splits into fins at the end. Its wings are attached to the length of its body by a series of flexible bones, which can be folded back against it, and the skin in between is loose, creating a wave-like effect. The scales are hardly prominent, but are more of a leathery feel. Wavecrests are almost exclusively a dark shade of blue-green, with hints of full blue, but are darker on top and lighter on bottom. Its eyes are commonly bright green.

It has a long neck and a flat head with a fin traveling along the back of the neck and down it’s body, but no horns on the face. Any rider must sit directly behind the head so as not to interfere with the fin, which is essential for flying.

The Wavecrest, like most Water dragons, has a large reserve of water that it can use to create boiling water breath attacks.

Common Light Highblade

Perhaps one of the most heavily armored dragons among the common class, the Highblade is also one of the largest. Covered entirely in solid, thick scales, especially along the front of its chest, even its wings seem to be made more of scales than of feathers. It has four legs, with the front ones straight but the back ones being bent, which allows the Highblade to stand up on its rear legs to present its heavily armored underbelly to attacks. The bottoms of all four legs have spurs coming out, which offer protection to the upper parts of the leg, which are less heavily guarded. The back of its head is covered in similar spur-like scales, which create a mane that protects where its narrow head joins its long neck. The Highblade has three long, flat tails, which are capable of redirecting some attacks if used properly. The Highblade is usually a metallic color, although there have been some rare occasions of more muted tones. Its eyes are usually the same color as its scales.

Its head is the only place that isn’t protected, with a fine, delicate nose, and no protection in the form of horns or heavy scales. However, its long neck allows it to move its head a great distance, thus protecting it.

The Highblade is able to emit a ray of blindingly bright fire, which will travel in a straight line and can be gauged to travel specific distances before dissipating.

Common Shadow Furred Shadowbeast

One of the more unusual of the common dragons, the Furred Shadowbeast seems more like a mix between a canine and a dragon than a pure dragon. Larger than a cart horse, the Shadowbeast still has a canid-like body, with long, thin legs, and a very dog-like face and ears. However, it still possesses very large, batlike wings, which are strong enough to lift its heavier body off the ground. The Shadowbeast possesses a long, lightly furred tail, which ends in a large tuft. Not covered in the scales that would normally protect it from attacks, the Shadowbeast has a coat of incredibly thick black fur, which can stop, or at least slow, most physical attacks. Its eyes are usually a shade of amber.

The Shadowbeast posesses a single set of horns which curl around from behind its head and back towards its jaw, protecting the side of its face from attack.

Along with having a unique form, the Shadowbeast is able to release a toxic fog which can temporarily blind opponents. It also has a flame-retardant oil on its fur, which keeps it from being damaged when set aflame. Some Shdowbeasts will purposefully light themselves on fire in order to scare an opponent.

Common Electric Stormrider

One of the largest common dragons, and easily as long as two wagons, the Stormrider is serpent-like dragon with massive, feathered wings that is designed to glide almost indefinitely. When it does need to land, the Stormrider has small back legs that can support most of its serpentine body, and it uses its wings as front legs. The body is most commonly a shade of blue-grey, with a white and blue striped belly, while its eyes are yellow or white.

The Stormrider has a shorter, broader face, with spines along its lower jaw, and two large, rope-like appendages emerging from behind its eyes, which reach all the way down to the wings. It has long, soft fur along its back, starting even with its wings, that is able to conduct and expel electricity, meaning that any rider has to sit in front of the wings. The fur, like its eyes, is a shade of yellow or white. There is a large tuft of fur at the end of the tail which dispels any gathered electricity in an appropriate direction.

The Stormrider, like most Electric dragons is capable of charging up an electric breath attack that is released in a ball or spray. This charge can reach almost any size if given enough time, although it is limited by the size of the dragon, but all attacks take time to form.

Common Plant Venomstrider

One of the few common dragons that is rarely trained, the Venomstrider looks to be more plant than dragon much of the time. Shaped rather like a velociraptor, with the long back legs and tail and sharp snout, the Venomstrider has giant wings that seem to be made of fern leaves instead of feathers. Along with that, it has several fern-like things growing out of its tail, and a leaf-like crest surrounding its head. Its scales are banded in color between light and dark green, allowing it to blend into its shadowy jungle homes, and it has dark yellow or green eyes.

There is very little adornment on the Venomstrider’s head other than the crown of leaf-like growths. It has a strong jaw and a wide head, giving it good bite strength. Venomstriders almost always travel in packs, and while it is not the bravest creature alone, it is ferocious when surrounded by allies.

Venomstriders are able to leave behind a trail of flammable gas, which can be ignited by a spark it is able to create.

Venomstriders are rarely trained because they get a strong sense of pack at a very early age, and they will not abandon that pack. When a Venomstrider egg is obtained great care needs to be taken in its raising, or else the creature will form such a strong bond with a single individual it will not allow anyone else to approach.

Common Poison Jadetail

A deceptively delicate looking creature, the Jadetail is long and lanky, with long, thin legs and a stretching neck. The Jadetail has clawed front legs and hooved back legs, allowing them stability on a wide variety of surfaces. They have large, supple wings with a clear filament that is surprisingly resistant to rips and tears. Their tail is ended in a sharp barb which is often dipped or rubbed in poison. The Jadevine’s scales are miniscule, barely visible to the naked eye, which creates a smooth, leather-like feeling to their hide. They are usually green or brown in color, although some white and grey ones have been found. Their eyes are exclusively green and pupilless.

The head has a prominent brow with a short nose, and the eyes are on the front of the head. It has large, almost frilly ears, and a pair of ram’s horns circling around behind its head. It has four or five spines running down the start of its neck, but they end before reaching the back.

The Jadevine is able to spit out a concentrated acid that can’t fly far but is highly corrosive on almost any living substance.

Common Arcane Crystalhide

A surprisingly beautiful dragon, the Crystalhide is an almost translucent dragons whose organs and bones are able to glow with an internal light. Its scales and skin, rather than being made of scales, seem to be made of small crystals. Despite its heavy appearance, with a wide chest, broad neck, and proportionally huge wings, the Crystalhide is incredibly light, allowing it to fly long distances. Along the back of its head and neck, on its chest, sides, and legs, and on the tip of its tail the Crystalhide almost looks furred from fine crystals which grow around it. There are longer spines that grow on the back of its legs and all around the tail. The ones on the tail can be folded in or made to stand on edge. Its wings have many similar spines along the bone, and the points at the end of its wings can be wickedly sharp. These points go long, medium, short, in terms of length, and then repeat. All Crystalhides are transparent, however they refract different colors of light from inside. Most of this time it serves to give them a barely noticeable glow and a color, usually a shade of red, purple, or blue, but they can glow brightly enough to be hard to look at when agitated. Their eyes are white.

The crystalhide’s head is large compared to the rest of its body, with a shorter nose. Most of its head is covered in spines, especially along the back of the jaw and the eyebrow ridges, as well as two jutting from the bottom of the mouth, but there is a smooth spot in between the eyes and the tip of the nose.

The Crystalhide is one of the few dragons that does not have a breath attack that directly wound an attacker. Rather it has balls of colored, exploding light which are only moderately painful when struck with, but are designed to distract an attacker, giving the Crystalhide time to get in close and finish with a harsher attack.
People

The people of Keva are similar to humans in many manners. Like humans the Xuvi naturally gather together into groups, and then become fiercely territorial of their protected borders. Like humans, the Xuvi have people who come to lead the tribes, and these people pass down the mantle of Chief to their descendants, be they male or female. What separates the Xuvi from humans is that, somewhere in their ancestry, there is a hint of dragon’s blood in their veins.

The Xuvi are a mix of skin and scale, with large, plate-like scales covering the outsides of shoulders and legs, belly and chest, jaw and eye bones, the side of the neck, and the spine, all the way down along the top of a long, reptilian tail. Their hands have three fingers and a thumb, covered in light scales on the tops of the fingers and tipped with sharp claws. Their toes are similar to their fingers, having three joints instead of two, and being clawed and scaled, rendering shoes unnecessary.

The Xuvi have long, more pointed ears, and a broader, flatter nose. Their brows are more heavily defined, as is their jaw. Their eyes are cat-like, able to dilate wide in the night but returning to slits in the day.
